Former IBF junior welterweight (140 pounds) champion, Paulie Malignaggi, of Brooklyn, in a report by BoxingScene.com, confirmed that he is being targeted for the Golden Boy Promotions, Dec. 18 under card of the main event featuring WBC light heavyweight (175 pounds) champion Jean Pascal of Canada against 45-year-old ex-titlist, Bernard Hopkins at the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec.

Nicknamed "The Magic Man," Malignaggi (27-4, five knockouts) is coming off of May's 11th-round knockout loss to England's WBA junior welterweight champion, Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KOs) at Madison Square Garden's WaMu Theatre.

"That's what we're going to do. I'll be fighting on December 18th. I don't know yet if they're going to show the fight on TV," said Malignaggi, who will compete as a welterweight (147 pounds). "We're going to fight in December, and I hope to get something big in early 2011."

Also expected to be on the card is former three-time world champion, Erik Morales (50-6, 35 KOs), of Tijuana, Mex., who scored three knockdowns in last month's welterweight sixth-round knockout of Scottland's Willie Limond fought at a catch weight of 143 pounds.

The victory was the second straight for Morales, who turned 34 on Sept. 1 and who is the last man to beat Manny Pacquiao.

In March, Morales scored a 12-round, unanimous decision over Jose "Jicaras" Alfaro (23-6, 20 KOs) in Monterrey, Nuevo, Leon, Mex., ending a 31-month absence from the ring and a four-match losing streak that was part of five losses in his last six fights.

"When I heard Erik Morales was going to be on the show, I asked about fighting him, but they told me he wasn't fighting in Canada, that his fight would be in Mexico. I don't know who I'm fighting yet," said Malignaggi of the show's split-feed status that allows Morales to fight at another location, yet still be televised on the same show.

"I'm real excited about boxing again, and about everything that's going on in my life. I have a lot of things going on outside of boxing," said Malignaggi. "I can't wait to get into the ring in December. I hope to have something big in early 2011. I'm very happy that I'm with a promoter like Golden Boy. I want all of my fans in Quebec to come to the show."

I think it's a fair fight. A faded ATG against Malignaggi who isn't quite amongst the elite.

The styles would mesh in a curious kind of way. I wouldn't mind seeing it.

I don't think he is rooting against Morales to be honest...

Morales is completely shot. I think Paulie would box circles around him at this point.

As crazy as it may sound, I'd say Morales is shot enough and far enough out of his weight class for Malignaggi to have a chance of a knockout. Ha. That would be very sad to see.

Personally, I'd rather see Morales give Limond a rematch.

He still needs the target practice.

how am i being a douchebag? i'd rather both guys retire and enjoy the rest of their lives in good health than to fight ANY of the current champs and risk permanent damage, if anything you're just another blood thirsty selfish "fan" who doesn't give a shit about their well being, i don't wanna see either guy end up like McClellan or like Ali

I think the only thing Malignagi has at this point over Morales is his age.

Hes only half an inch taller than Morales and has never been a big welter, usually coming in well under the limit. Hes not a puncher either.

It would look similar to the Limond Match. Alot of movement from Malignagi and then him slowing down as Morales gets in to it.

Limmond hits harder than Malignagi as well. He put Khan on his ass, Paulie couldnt manage that;D

He has never been a welter full stop.

Limond doesn't take a punch like Paulie body or head, Morales won't stop Paulie no chance.

Morales and Barrera are far from being punchy, Barrera is a freaking host on sports shows all the time and talks fine. They want to go down in history and be assured of HOF status(which they both make IMO)and to be the first. Why, if its what they want am I bloodthirsty? McClellan was far from being punch when he stepped in against Benn, same goes for Ali against Holmes or Berbick, it only takes one fight to permanently fuck up a fighter for life, Morales and Barrera ARE NO WHERE CLOSE TO WHERE THEY USED TO BE, and no way in hell are they going to beat the likes of Khan, Bradley, Alexander, or any top fighter at 140, much less at 147, both guys looked noticeably smaller at 135, so it's just a ticking time bomb until they step up against someone at 147 or even 140 who could badly hurt either guy, and seeing how neither one is known from backing down during a fight it would make it just that much worse, i'd be ecstatic if Morales was able to capture a title in his 4th weight class (something he already did before getting screwed against David Diaz), but i wouldn't ant it to come at the expense of their health

Ok, maybe I misread, I was under the impression you wanted to see them lose. Using McClellan isnt helping your arguement, if thats the case no one should box because they might get brain damage. Ali on the other hand was already slurring and mumbling before he retired for the first time. He went on to fight too long, thats for sure. I dont think they are at their best forms either but TBH Khan and Maidana are winnable fights. Khan's chin is questionable, and Maidana cant box very well.
