Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
Ok Guys, on here we have plenty of posters who like to put their sigs where their typing fingers are. Well I want you all to own up to your mistakes. When have you been completely and utterly wrong about the outcome of a fight or the outcome of a fighters career? When have you said a guy will make it to the top, only for him to fail miserably? Equally when have you said a fighter will amount to nothing, when he turned out to be a superstar. Lets hear those crappy predictions right here...
I'll begin with myself.
I said Hatton would beat Mayweather. More a pride thing. Gotta love Ricky, and the Floyd fans were pretty mouthy, so I said hatton would stop him. Kinda stupid when you look back.
I said Andre Ward wouldn't stand a chance in the Super Six. Thought he was inexperienced and overrated and certainly wouldn't have a prayer against the other fighters (other than Taylor). Oh how wrong I was!
Not in the bin yet, but I said Tony Jeffries could win a World Title. Unless he learns from his mistakes, that aint gunna happen anytime soon.
Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
Far too many times and I feel no shame in admitting it. I like supporting the underdog so will sometimes make a case for a fighter who realistically has no more than an outside chance of winning. These days I sit on the fence a lot more though, the Hatton/Pac fight was the last time I really built into the hype of a fight and it didn't turn out so well.
Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
I'm always going with the underdog. I've been wrong with ever fight except Mayweather Jr fights and RJJ fight(except Tarver).
I was wrong in . . .
Mosley vs Forrest(both)
B-Hop vs Tito
Prince Nas vs Barrera
Judah vs Zu
Vic Darchinyan vs Donaire
I picked everyone to defeat Pacman after he fought Daiz and except Hatton
Tito vs Sweat Pea
Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
I made some predictions. I was right on the money with some of them. And I was also woefully wrong with some of them.
Bradley-Alexander is the recent one.
But. I go looking for someone to have sig bet with if I really feel my fighter is gonna win. And so far, I've been really successful with it. 8-0 baby. And it'll be 9-0 if Donaire wins this Jan 19. ;D

Pacquiao's last 8 fights by any chance?
Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
Most recently convinced a few people to put money on Froch getting hammered by Abraham.
I fully expected Haye to lose to Audley. Not because I think Audleys any good but I just expected us to have to suffer Audley as a 'world' champion until he lost to Tyson Fury or John McDermott.

I did the exact same thing. I should have had more faith in Froch.
Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
i have been mainly right recently
one recent fight i remember getting wrong is when munroe went to japan
I remember thinking cotto would have too much skill for margarito and had a chance of beating pac although i didnt back him
i also thought smith would beat degale :-\

Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions

Re: Shame thread: When have you been woefully wrong in your boxing predictions
One miserable weekend in Las Vegas I bet on McGirt vs Howard Davis Jr to go the distance (McGirt, KO 1) and Buster Drayton to beat Julian Jackson (Jackson KO in three very very very very one sided rounds.).

I thought he'd beat Dirrell, and I backed him against Kessler & Pascal, but I really thought Abraham would win the Super Six. Superb power and an awesome defense I just thought would be too much for the inexperienced American fighters, an overrated Kessler and for Froch. Glad I was wrong though.
