Let's see how good CutmeMick's prospect call was: Sylvester v. Gregorz Proksa
About 8 months ago, CutmeMick picked http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IpPGykwYxAas one of the best rising middleweights in the division on this thread. Now Gregorz Proksa is taking a big step up in competition when he faces Sebastian "The Hurricane" Sylvester for the European Middleweight Championship vacated by Darren Barker. Sylvester is a legitimate middleweight former champion. Will Mick's pick prevail? Will Proksa's rise to the top, as Mick predicted, continue?
*Coincidentally, on that same above-referenced thread in which Mick picked Proksa as his top middleweight prospect, Bilbo picked Darren Barker as his favorite rising star. Wouldn't you know it? Now Barker is facing Bilbo's least favorite boxer, Sergio Martinez. Will Bilbo's prospect pick also rise to the occasion?

Where is the option for YOU are out to lunch creating a thread like this ? ;D
Re: Let's see how good CutmeMick's prospect call was: Sylvester v. Gregorz Proksa
Well clearly you know what my vote is... ;)
Super G is def. talented and has the goods.
I was ringside for his pro-debut vs. Capo it was on the undercard of JLC-Corrales 1.
The second I saw him I knew I was seeing a talented kid whom I was sure I'd see again.
Coincidently that night I met BCD who at that time was still a MW and was one of my fav. rising stars.
The only issue I have with Super G is his defense lacks but I think his speed more then makes up for it... I think he's come someway but still needs experience. I think this is a HUGE step up in class as far as opposition goes for him. This will really show if he's ready for 2 or 3 fighters like SS or along the lines of Ishida or the winner of Vera-Lee even a fight with Rubio would be good.

I agree. It's a big deal if he beats Sylvester. Geale is now Australia's chosen son and his best win is over Sylvester. Have you heard any stories of Proksa sparring?

I actually think that Proksa v. Sylvester could be a great boxing match. I'm almost as much looking forward to that fight as I am, Martinez v. Barker.

Has anyone seen the odds on this fight? Thanks in advance.

Would like to see them too. Proksa is exciting and intelligent, sadly his promotion lacked lately.

This is a monstrous step up for him though. If he dominated Sylvester, the rest of the middleweight division would take notice.
Grzegorz Proksa vs. Sebastian Sylvester, EBU championship

I don't know: did Sylvester give up because of the cut or because he decided that Proksa is too fast for him? What's next for both of them?

Sylvester went the distance in a pretty tight fight against Geale and his only other loss in the last 5 years was against Sturm. Sylvester even drew with Roman Karmazin who is a game middleweight. Then Proksa goes to Sylvester's hometown and blows him out of the water to win the European middleweight belt. He looks like he'll be a real force in the middleweight division. I might favor Proksa against a lot of the division. They should have him fight on an Adamek undercard in New Jersey where there is a big Polish fan base.
Credit to CutmeMick on picking Proksa out of a crowded middleweight up and coming crowd a year or so ago. He was spot on with that call.

Watched this fight. Great call that long ago Mick. He is still improving and pretty much beat Sylvester up. Great statement to make. He'll be avoided for a bit I'd say after that win.

A couple things...
They def made some changes. However I cant say it's for the better... :-\
1st thing I noticed right away was his stance its wider.
His hands are always down and to the side.
Fights similar to Sergio Martinez that style doesnt necessairly suit everyone.
SS was on the defense the whole way through so we really didn't see him being tested.
SS has for the better part of his career been a bleeder. From the start as they announced their names I got a feeling just from looking at him that he didn't really want to be there and or he wasn't 100% there.
It's still a good win for Super G just don't think it was much of test.

Cut - thing is, Sylvester fought toe to toe with Geale in his last fight and then Proksa destroyed him. Whether it was intimidation or what, I was super impressed. I didn't expect that. If Sylvester isn't good enough to test him, who is?
I was just thinking, wouldn't it be crazy to see Proksa and Pirog fight? Two slick eastern european fighters, who would have thought it, right?
Re: Let's see how good CutmeMick's prospect call was: Sylvester v. Gregorz Proksa
Proksa was the most impressive of all the fighters I saw over the weekend. Seriously impressive.
Problem is now though, he's a Pole living in England without a following, so he's gonna get dodged like the plague by all the big names.
