Not to Rub It in, but who was out there that said Ortiz...
:newdb:Would be a tougher match for Mayweather than Marquez would be for Pacquiao? Someone owes me their sig.

i never
in fact i said mayweather would win by KO, I also said Ortiz had 4 rounds to KO him (i know its not quite the same as he would be KOed in 4 rounds but its not bad)
IN FACT i made a lot of method of victory predictions for this weekends boxing on the british cards and the american one and i got about 9 right, the only one i got wrong was the stephen smith fight which was the one i also bet on

Erics - did you see the Tyson Fury v. Nikolai Firtha fight? If you haven't go check it out on youtube. Great heavyweight back and forth scrap. Tyson was rocked but managed to hold on to KO Firtha. I imagine you were very happy with it.

in what way tougher? In the sense that he headbuted mayweather then got ktfo?
Re: Not to Rub It in, but who was out there that said Ortiz...
I thought Ortiz was doing ok until Mayweather's cheap shot.
Ortiz at 147 is a much more dangerous opponent than Marquez at 147 imo.

Mental toughness is just as important as physical toughness. Ortiz's mental lapses cost him the fight. Specifically, he didn't last 5 rounds before he mentally capitulated.

Physically, you may indeed be correct, but mentally, at any weight class, Ortiz doesn't have a champion mentality. Marquez will win more rounds against Pacquiao than Ortiz did last Saturday. Fact.
Re: Not to Rub It in, but who was out there that said Ortiz...
Shouldn't you wait until Pac-Marquez have actually fought?
I think there's a very good chance Pac sparks Marquez early this time.

Ortiz was not doing ok before he got KTFO IMO.
By my count he only landed 29 clean punches in the fight (7 in the first, 7 in the second, 2 in the third and 13 in the fourth).
Mayweather landed 69 (10, 14, 17,28) which is more than twice as many as Ortiz in four rounds.
I have now watched the fight three times and he was completely out of his depth both mentally and physically from the off. The only good thing that I can say about Ortiz is that he seems like a really nice guy outside of the ring.

I'm with Fenster, sorta like putting the horse before the cart?!
I still think Ortiz was a tougher choice of opponent than JMM was for Pac at this stage.
Ortiz just acted like a bitch, then got treated like one!

Of course - it's way premature.
However, I had Ortiz only winning 1 round (and I was generous) so as long as Marquez wins 1 round and lasts passed the 5th, or wins two rounds, my theory stands as correct. Given that Marquez won considerably more rounds than Pacquiao in their two previous contests, I believe that means the odds heavily favor me?

it depends what you see as doing ok, i dunno about stats but i dont think he was in the fight at all
and as the fight went on it was becoming easier and easier, in one way its good for Ortiz that it ended the way it did because now there is still that bit of uncertainty
has the fight gone on people would be talking about how easy it was for mayweather now

Credit is due there for mentioning Round 4. Ortiz shot his load and then was knocked out in 4. Good point erics44.

So by your own admission Ortiz won more rounds against Floyd than Marquez did.
Ortiz is a tougher opponent at 147 than Marquez.
Glad you agree.

My issue was never who was a tougher opponent at 147. My issue was that Marquez would be a tougher opponent for Pacquiao than Ortiz would be for Mayweather. It was the subject of a previous thread: http://www.saddoboxing.com/boxingfor...z-marquez.html
And, given what happened on Saturday, I believe the odds heavily favor me.
