"Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
Hey guys long time, hope all is well. i still check in from time to time to see whats up and still following along with mthe boxing. saw the barker martinez fight most recently. pretty surprised!
anyway..a question. i always hear "floyd is boring" but i cant remember a fight since..perhaps Baldomir that can be considered boring? (i still enjoyed that fight too)
Lets look at his last fee fights :
Vs Ortiz - action packed 4 rounds and controversial ending. dissapointing but not boring.
Vs Mosley - offensive masterclass. 2nd round drama. no way boring
Vs Marquez - never understood people calling this boring. Amazing offensive and defensive display of boxing. the purists would have been in awe (im not talking about the weight issue here)
VS Hatton - scrappy but filled with action. awesome round 8 and and a sweet ending.
Vs ODLH - take away the hype and this fight a pretty damn good chess match where Floyd came closest to losing. think back to when you were watching it. You cant have been bored.
Ok so what fight and specifically why in that fight did you find floyd boring?
Discuss! :)

Floyd must not be all that "boring", his PPV's outsell everyone else's, so he has a fan base, even if 50% of them are fan's buying in the hopes of seeing him lose.
Having said that, i'm not a fan of Mayweather, and I don't care how "talented" he is, on principal I refuse to buy any PPV he's part of, that's just the way it is.
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
I think he was on his way to really exploding on Ortiz if he just kept his head a bit. Nothing but props for smackng around Mosley though with respect to Marquez, that fight irked me. It was all about selling tag of "p4p" and seemed cheap.
Inactivity is another point of being boring. The man hit peak stride after feeding Hatton the turnbuckle and then.....:vanish: I think years from now he may wish he had kept going instead of seeing Manny, and all others for that matter storm into the front.
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
I think folks don't like his safety 1st approach & the fact that he takes very few risks, but I personally have enjoyed many of his bouts. Against Ortiz & Mosley he was right there the entire fight

Lets look at his last fee fights :
Vs Ortiz - action packed 4 rounds and controversial ending. dissapointing but not boring. You're right. Controversial, disappointing ending, but 1st 4 rounds were not boring.
Vs Mosley - offensive masterclass. 2nd round drama. no way boring First disagreement. After the 2nd round, it became boring, although it was more Mosley's fault than it was Floyd's.
Vs Marquez - never understood people calling this boring. Amazing offensive and defensive display of boxing. the purists would have been in awe (im not talking about the weight issue here) Not as boring as PFB-Mosley, but so one-sided that in a way it was, well... boring. JMM had no business at that weight.
VS Hatton - scrappy but filled with action. awesome round 8 and and a sweet ending. I was so happy to see Hatton not being allowed to grab and maul, I remember mostly the ending, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Vs ODLH - take away the hype and this fight a pretty damn good chess match where Floyd came closest to losing. think back to when you were watching it. You cant have been bored. You hit the nail on the head... "chess match". That's not what I paid good money to watch. Two guys wanting to impress with their boxing skills, and neither wanting to let it all hang out. Not my favorite fight.

Hope this helps.
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
I don't think these are boring fights at all. I enjoy a cerebral fight such as floyd brings. It did get a bit boring against Tata, perhaps. In general, I prefer an intelligent fight that moves toward war over a fight that is all blood and energy.
Not that the others aren't fun to watch. Gatti-Ward, really good entertainment. Really good.
But I'd rather watch Floyd. Hopkins, too, haters be damned.
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
I think Mayweather is seen as boring because he is so good that his fights are almost never competitive.

Good point, the Marquez and Mosley fights come to mind, neither were worth watching.

Think it depends on if you got a love for just action or a love for timing or maybe both.
Some action lovers may see him as a spoiler of others styles and others may see it as masterful timing.

And why were they not competitive? Because Marquez was WAY in over his head... he never belonged at that weight in the first place. Proof? He went scurrying back as soon as the massacre was over. Mosley wobbled Mayweather in the 2nd round with a good right hand, and then UNEXPLICABLY went into a defensive, sorry-ass shell. I've never seen Father Time arrive in the middle of a fight.
Was any of this Floyd's fault? Probably not. They put truckloads of money in front of him to massacre Marquez... and he took it. I probably would've done the same thing. Does it sort of anger fans who want to see Floyd take on the more dangerous fighters his own weight and size? You betcha. Against Mosley, give Floyd some credit for withstanding the right hand and making the necessary adjustments. But Mosley helped by crashing faster than the stock market in the Great Depression.
Credit to Floyd also for giving Ortiz a shot. Who was to know that the kid would have a mental breakdown and launch his head at Floyd's face, only to compound the error by going all "kissie-poo" on Floyd and getting KTFO'ed?
All you defensive Floyd fans: Not everyone that doesn't bow at Pretty Boy's altar is a hater. Some of us are just normal boxing fans who would like to see Floyd be involved in a good scrap, for crying out loud! Forget the posturing.... forget the calculated inactivity.... forget the precious "0".... forget who said what and who did what........ just get the f*ck out there and fight! Take on everyone on the horizon... and THEN retire.
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
It may be he is to good for any body that's about in boxing today? boring to some he is a bit like marmite you love it or you dont but you do have to say he is very GOOD?;D:sheep:
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
Why is Floyd boring? Because he throws 30 punches a round and they are single punches at that.
Joe Calzaghe who has little power is the personification of exciting. By marked contrast Floyd is coma inducing.
Re: "Floyd is Boring" - Why do you think so?
Floyd/Marquez? We all knew it was a mismatch. Fucking bore.
Floyd/Baldomir? Eating shit would be more fun that watch that.
Floyd/Ortiz? Sucker punch to end the fight and go home early. Crap.
Floyd/Mosley? Way to carry an old man.
