What are Macklin's chances against Martinez on St. Paddy's day in NYC?
Macklin is coming off his career best performance. He appears raring to go and confident. He believes that Sergio isn't a proper middleweight and that once he gets in the ring with a true middleweight, and a tough middleweight, he'll be undersized and in trouble (he contends Darren Barker isn't a tough man). He also, and rightfully so, believes that the crowd at MSG in NYC on St. Paddy's day will be very pro-Irish and thus Sergio will be under the gun. He's got a right to his opinions, but is the "Knife" correct?

Here is Macklin's fight with Jamie Moore where he lost by knockout in the tenth round.

What I like most about Macklin is that (1) he has a high workrate, (2) he punches with true authority, (3) he has a certain toughness expected from an Irish fighter, and (4) he is not afraid to go to the body.
His shortcomings are his defense, which may be because he's such an offensive fighter, and his stamina appears to wane toward the end of fights, which also may be due to his high output offense. In his two times stepping up the competition against Moore and Sturm, he tired at the end. I believe he's got a chance against Sergio because of his punching power and his aggressiveness. On the other hand, I can see Sergio walking him into a huge punch like he did Paul Williams. Paul Williams is also a high volume fighter. However, at the least, the fight has the ingredients to make for a heckuva scrap.

Macklin gets hit way to easily , i can see him getting into a tear up and getting stopped around round 8 or 9.
Re: What are Macklin's chances against Martinez on St. Paddy's day in NYC?
yeah i think it will be tough for macklin, I think the main problem will be that martinez is probly a bit too tough
btw Macklin v Moore is one of the best fights ive ever seen

It'll be a real good fight but one with an inevitable conclusion, Macklin getting stopped. It wouldnt surprise me if Macklin was even ahead on the cards when it happens but sometime in the second half of the fight it will happen. Top match up for entertainment. Once Macklins pace drops in the 2nd half, Martinez will start to catch him almost at will and theres only so much punishment you can take - just ask John Murray

Wow. That is brutal.

Martinez takes him out in the 2nd half of the fight, Macklin will eat too many left hands.

Macklin gets stopped, though it might be interesting for a few rounds. Sergio should thoroughly dominate him. I think Andy Lee would have a better chance vs Sergio.

I wonder who Andy Lee will fight on the undercard. Rumor has it between Quillin and Lorenzo.

Macklin will need the same workrate to have a chance vs Martinez. I expect Martinez to win by late KO when Macklin is more tired. Its a good fighter fighting a really good/great fighter with plenty of experience.
Martinez will weather the storm before picking Macklin apart.

Macklin may be to brave for his own good against martinez

Agree with this, one hell of a fight that was !!
Got to say I feel Martinez has too much for Macklin. Although Macklin has great heart and does throw some flashy combo's, including a good body attack, his defence is too leaky for someone of Sergio's class.
Can see this fight being stopped around the 8-10th rds

Quillen would be a great fight, I like both those guys. I think Pete has too much power for Andy, but Andy is dangerous as well.
Some people have said that Quillin's chin is suspect. Any truth to that rumor?
Re: What are Macklin's chances against Martinez on St. Paddy's day in NYC?
I think Macklin is better, or around the same skill level as Darren Barker and look what happened in that fight. I'm still talking Martinez to win obviously but I wouldn't right him off so easily when you look at the Barker fight.

Matinez makes a statement and stops Macklin in 2
