Scotland - please don't go
What are your thoughts on the prospects of Scotland becoming an independent country and leaving the United Kingdom ? Obviously it would be great to here what the Scottish lads on here think but also the English, Welsh and Northern Irish view on the subject. As you can probably tell from the thread title I hope that the United Kingdom is not broken up. As a proud English man I am none the less equally proud to be British and the United Kingdom would no longer be the same without Scotland. Sure we all like banter but our armed forces, our cultural heritage and the fact that we all share the same rain sodden, beautiful green country makes us what we are and to me our strength lies in our unity.
Re: Scotland - please don't go
I would be very surprised if Scotland decided to go it alone, they need England. If they go then it will be the welsh next.
Re: Scotland - please don't go
As long as they keep those cool skirts, they can do whatever.

Re: Scotland - please don't go
I hope the UK stays together for all our sakes.
The split up of the UK is good for nobody apart from a few made flag waving jocks who dont seem to care about the countries long term future.
Re: Scotland - please don't go
I don't mind either way really. I mean it's their country.
I like them being part, but it is going to bother them so much, then do it on their own. I have a Scottish mate who is a top friend, but hates the English in everything they do. I actually support Scotland in their matches. Just seems to be a bit odd.
Would you really want to be an independent country of a few million people? Bit odd.
Re: Scotland - please don't go
Scotland can just decide to go and the rest of the UK has no say in it? Interesting. If that's the case why the new pissing match over the Falklands?
Re: Scotland - please don't go
The Scottish hate the English because we have stolen their oil and beat the crap out of them for hundreds of years, so no wonder they do not support us at football matches. We however do not have any hang ups and support Scotland and Andy Murray without any concern. I knew it was not a good idea to give them their own parliament, their students do not pay university fees or car park fees at hospitals.

Yeah thats weird isnt it
Australia can just walk when ever it wants to as well.
So why was the hold on nth Ireland and Falklands?
In Aus we have royalists who dont want independence but they will get out voted soon.
i suppose the difference is we wont take their land or try to rub them out.

Whether you agree with it or not the British perspective is that we protected British subjects who did not want to be run by an invading foreign state, in the guise of Argentina. Scotland is a very different case in which it seems the Scottish themselves will be given the opportunity to leave the union. It will be a shame if it happens because a lot of what makes Scotland and indeed England ,Wales and Northern Ireland great has occurred after the uniting of us all.
I don't really have an opinion on it. I get that the people on the Islands want to be part of the UK but owning a set of islands half way around the world is still a pretty big throwback to imperialism

It's not imperialism at all the people in the Falkland's, want to stay British and we did fight a War to
keep it British, a Friend got killed in that one he was24 Welsh Guard's,
Re: Scotland - please don't go
I'll admit to not being well read on UK history but is it not one of the last colonies left over from Britian's imperial period? The resident's self determination is something to be taken into account but so is a nation's desire to control islands off their coast. I'd say fighting a military conflict half way around the world to control a piece of land pretty well describes imperialism in most instances.
Re: Scotland - please don't go
As with Scotland Leaving the UK I don't think it's a good idea, I can see there point about being governed
by Westminster, and feeling there need's are being overlooked.
Together we are strong keep the UK as it is it may not be perfect but what is leave well alone.!
