Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
If someone has Povetkin winning, I won't argue.
I scored the fight 115-113 for Huck. There was 5 rounds I gave him (that I hadn't marked as close on my scorecard). There was 4 close rounds in the fight. I gave Huck 2 of those rounds and Povetkin 2 of those rounds.
My question is how does anyone come up with 116-112 for Povetkin. Even if I gave Povetkin all 4 of the close rounds my scorecard would be 115-113 Povetkin.
I just don't see how Huck didn't win 5 rounds at the absolute least.
Did anyone have it 116-112 povetkin (or know of anyone with that score?)? I just don't think any scorecard giving Povetkin 116 pts is reasonable.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
I didn't keep a card, but I thought that Huck won the fight. Maybe 7-5 or 8-4, with close rounds that I thought went his way. Could be that, at ringside, it looked different.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
true, a fight can look different at ringside. That is why I don't complain about the score of a fight if I were to take close rounds and flip them and it made the same score as the judges. But I can't possibly justify giving Povetkin 8 rounds. You could have Povetkin up 3-1 after 4 rounds and there is no way for Povetkin to win 5 out of the final 8 rounds. NO way. He lost at least 4 of those rounds clearly.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
It continually strikes me as odd when the judges scoring a fight score it differently than 80-90% of those watching anywhere (at home or boxing writers sitting there). That always makes me scratch my head.
I especially scratch my head when the judges have it wide, and wider than anyone else anywhere has it scored.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
I had Povetkin winning a close decision, something like 115-113, but there's a lot of room there, the reverse, Huck winning 115-113 wouldn't have shocked me.
I'd agree that Povetkin winning by a score of 116-112 is ridiculous.
cheers dude

Yeah it wasn't a robbery per se, but it was def the wrong decision. Huck hurt Povetkin a good 4 different times, and at least one of those times probably should have gotten a knockdown out of it due to Povetkin being held up by the ropes and/or diving at Huck's waist to grasp on for dear life.
I had it 8-4 Huck, but 7-5 Huck is probably more popular. 6-6 is questionable, giving it to Povetkin is very questionable in my opinion.
Povetkin was all heart, but clearly fatigued and on queer street for much of the fight.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
You lot are giving Huck an awful lot of credit for sloppy sporadic roughhousing tactics. Povetkin deserved to nick it imo. Shit load of close rounds though, literally half the fight was pick em rounds. And as such you always get controversy with scores in fights like these cos you can actually have it 8-4 either way if you like the work of one over the other in the close rounds.
Did I just read Mars_ax give the fight to Povetkin 115-113 and in the same breath saying the 116-112 score was ridiculous? Thats 1 round scored different dude.
Anyone saying this is a robbery is talking out of their arse and thats a fact.

did anyone call it a robbery? I was going after the bullshit cards giving Povetkin 8 rounds.
116-112 is ridiculous. There was at least 5 rounds that Huck won. Mar's scorecard illustrated my point, there wasn't 8 rounds Povetkin won. That is why 116-112 is bullshit. 116-112 isn't giving Povetkin close rounds, it is taking away rounds Huck won.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
I had it 7-4-1 for 116-113 Povetkin. I dont even like Povetkin, I prefer Huck to him. The commentator on boxnation also had it the same score as me. 116-112 is very achievable. I only counted 2 rounds that I thought Huck definitively won. 4 for Povetkin. Then 6 close ones.
I think you just must be a fan of Hucks style Captain and theres nothing wrong with that.

I am not a Huck fan or his style.
You are the first person I can find on twitter, and 3 boxing boards who thought that there was 6 close rounds and that Huck didn't win 5 rounds at the least.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
The commentator dude and 2 of the 3 judges side with me though, so I think I have some kind of argument.
The crowd cheered an awful lot whenever Huck did anything, that often comes into play in peoples scoring. Bottom line, theres no way Huck gets a raw deal in Germany on the cards.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
punches to the back of the head aren't scoring punches... so there were alot of rounds where many of huck's punches landed but didn't contribute to his score. mix in the fact that povetkin's punches were often clean crisp and in combos of 3, 4 and 5... it makes it a closer fight for povetkin.
i think people have got a little over excited cause huck did better than people expected.
keep in mind regardless of whether he was bending down or huck was holding his head down those rabbit punches are illegal and don't score. but they do take alot out of you over the course of a fight. which helps to explain why povetkin was looking so challenged. had the illegal punches and head holding been stopped early in the fight or if huck had been penalized, then we'd have seen a different fight.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
EPIX is replaying this right now. Suprised how solid Huck looks for only 209 lbs.
Re: Huck vs Povetkin scoring question
i enjoyed the fight and thought huck deserved it
one thing that i thought should have happened is the ref warning provetkin a lot more for dipping his head below the waist
he should have been told to keep his head up and if he persisted like he did, lose a point
