Donaire vs. Nishioka ( Saturday night fight thread)
Very happily surprised that they're stepping up to the top of the division now and not keeping time with a BS fight against Arce. Plus Rios vs. Alvarado is the undercard. This should be an awesome night of boxing!

Much better than fighting Arce. Nishioka won't have fought for a year and is agreeing to fight in America. He must be supremely confident. I'm looking forward to this one.

This sounds like a potential FOTY to me.
re: Donaire vs. Nishioka ( Saturday night fight thread)
Donaire I will go for in this one, at this moment in time one of my favourite fighters.:)

Niice, those are two really good fights. Would've picked Donaire without question before his last couple of fights, but I'm not sure whether he's really the same force having moved up and I think Nishioka has been at the weight forever? Alvarado probably doesn't have the tools to beat Rios I suspect, but that will be fireworks while it lasts. All 4 guys can punch though, anything could happen.

He's been noticeably much bigger then his opponents moving up starting with Sydorenko. In that particular case it looked like he was fighting a boy. He decked Montiel sure but he has lost his power now. Flash or flash in the pan?
re: Donaire vs. Nishioka ( Saturday night fight thread)
Ths is a helluva card. Donaire had better have that twinkle out of his eyes and head out of the cloud here and stop believing he's the 2nd coming of Frazier. Alvarado vs Rios could be contested inside of a walk in closet with Alvarado being taylor made and when its all said and done he'll prob come in the smaller guy. Good bash up whatever the case, hope Mike whips him but don't think so.
re: Donaire vs. Nishioka ( Saturday night fight thread)
I'm very pleased with this choice of opponent. Nishioka arguably has claim to the top spot at 122 with Donaire behind him.

This will be a fantastic fight and if in the mean time Guillermo can fight someone noteworthy and then fight Mares and the winner of those fights....yeah I doubt that its gonna happen this year :(
BUT this fight will be fantastic competitive fight.

Unfortunately, Rigondeaux does have a fight scheduled and it's against another non-top-10 guy. He's really not doing a good job of building up his "Nonito's ducking me" argument. I do think he'd destroy Mares though -- one of the most overrated guys around.

I understand Anselmo Moreno is at 118 right now, but I view Moreno as a legitimate threat to any of the guys mentioned.

I agree completely. I would rank them Donaire - Moreno - Rigondeaux - Mares. I wouldn't view any outcomes among the first three as a huge upset. I think Mares is a clear class below.

Right. There is a reason that Mares didn't mention Moreno as a possible opponent after he won his last fight, even though they share the same promoter, and the fight would be easy to make. However, I actually am a fan of Mares. On that list though, he ranks below the rest.
With regard to the above list, Nishioka is a wild card too and should be somewhere on that list. I haven't seen quite enough of him to predict an upset in this fight, but he looks very good from what I have seen.
