GHAD DAMNIT- Arthur Mercante Jr. in another, near-fatal boxing match!!

Hay-Suze Crispies... how did he get his license to be a ref?!?! Does he want to be involved in a fatal fight??

I know a lot of you may not have seen THIS Arthur Mercante Jr. blunder and near fatal "accident" as a result of his CRIMINAL refereeing, but you may know about his other, more notorious, legalized, near-fatal beatings he allowed to continue in the ring under his refereeing: Khalid Jones vs. Beetthaven Scotland, Pernell Whitiker vs. Diobelys Hurtado and Razor Ruddock vs Michael Dokes.

You have to see this one!!

(A little backdrop into how I got to this...)
I was reading the thread on Sugar Ray Leonard's sexual abuse, and then decided to do some Googling to find out former Olympic Coaches of the era. I then came across the Wikipedia entry for the USA Boxing Team's wiki-entry.

I then, as per the norm with random Google searches (and YouTube searches, for that matter), got side-tracked and decided to peruse the content and then saw the list of US Amateur Boxing Champions.

I read up on the past heavyweight amateur champions, and I looked into Michael Bennett- US Olympian at the, 2000 Olympic Games at Heavyweight. Read up on his less than stellar record, saw he had a history of getting KTFO'd- weak chinned- and then went to search some of his fights on YouTube, particularly the ones of him getting KTFO'd. (Yea, so what!?!? I went looking for guts and gore, primarily... but it does NOT excuse Mercante and his criminal acts!)

Alas, I came across the first video, of his first fight against Andrew Hutchinson, one which Bennett won by first round TKO.

MY-EFFING-GAWD!!! Why have people allowed Mercante Jr. to referee their matches at any time is BEYOND me?!?!

He def hesitated when he shouldn't have there.

Still, this is 12 years ago.

I don't see a huge deal there, the stoppage came in a couple of punches and Mercante had to act fast. He made a bit of a blunder just diving in instead of holding the other guy off I guess, it was the one extra punch that got in you have a problem with, I assume? Other than that he just got tangled up with the downed fighter, that happens.

Man, are you kidding me? Hutchinson was OUT on the ropes before the last two blows. The last two blows, with him on the ropes with the ropes holding him up (which is supposed to be a knockdown, at least) is what kept him up.

The last two blows didn't need to happen. It's a disgrace.

I certainly wish some boxing fans would complain about the refs :rolleyes:

Arthur Mercante Jr. is one of boxings best referees. When he retires he deserves to join his father in the HOF. I see nothing wrong in his performance. Hutchinson just got knocked the fuck out

It was a bad stoppage yeah, but I mean refs are human and sometimes they are gonna fuck up. A professional referee has a tough job in boxing. There's no room for error: stop too fast and people want you fired, stop too slow and people want you fired. It's a fine line. I'm not gonna fault a guy for making a few mistakes along the way.

I don't think those were all that bad. Mistakes are made. Its not an exact science. Lets not forget that there were refs back then who also counted to 10 when a guy was knocked out cold. He may not be as good as his dad but he is a hall of fame ref.

Mercante Jr. has had way too many bad calls... no other ref is as bad at making calls as him.

What's with the Mercante Jr. hate? I don't think I ever seen panic and stop a fight early like Jay Nady. Or look like he just doesn't know what the fuck to do, blowing calls left and right like Joe Cortez. He did an outstanding job on Miguel Cotto-Yuri Foreman as well as Cotto's fight against Zab Judah. He's a good ref.

Yep, mercante jr is one of the worst refs I've ever seen.

Ya know ya got a seriously bad ref when a distinguished man like the late Emanuel Steward says he would consider pulling a fighter out of a fight if mercante jr were involved...
