Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
... the likes of Ross Purity, Corey Sanders or Lamon Brewster?
For shit's sake, I don't even think Lewis/Bowe/Holyfield or Tyson pre 95 would have been beaten by the likes of Purity, Sanders or Brewster. Let alone be knocked clean out.
But yet we wanna praise Wladimir Klitschko for his 17 title defenses, most of them against sub-par opposition? Really?
Only Holmes (20 straight) and Louis (25 straight) have more title defenses. And, if you wanna talk quality, Holmes had a little harder run than Louis and Wlad. And, Louis was far more active than Wlad was fighting the same type of bums that Wlad beats into a crisp today.
It's a blooming travesty...
Re: Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
I hear what you are saying but Wlad has come back from those embarassing defeats, beaten all challengers and remained on top. There is nothing more he can do but just keep going and that takes some doing because he could easily get bored with the challenges but he consistantly beats them without any trouble.
Re: Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
If one judge had called the fight different by one point, you might well be asking whether we could see Wlad or Larry being beaten by Doug Jones.

Indeed. Ali got points for the rope a dope, talking to his opponent and shaking his head when he was punched in the face. And with Jimmy Young he must have gotten 5 rds before he entered the ring.
This is the tale of two Wlads. Pre clinch and post clinch. He never knew how to clinch before spending some time with Manny because in reality its illegal and yet a major advantage for those who know how and when to use it. His big brother was just as sloppy but he had an iron chin. That uppercut Lewis landed off the clinch would have decapitated a normal human.
Trouble is, Wlad now clinches, paws and leans to much and his fights are impossible to watch. He fights like a set of drapes.
If you examine the records objectively the records of Holmes and Louis ie: the quality of opponents are not better then Wlads. Holmes never beat one threatening prime heavyweight in his career outside of Cooney and Snipes and a few young wet behind the ears upstarts and even robbed one of them.
Re: Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
If Ali was as good as Wlad we would be calling Fraizer, Foreman, Liston, Patterson etc bums
Re: Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
I think on any giving night Corrie Sanders had the hand speed and pop to hurt any of the 3. Every fighter has some skeletons in the closet and while Wlad is stacking up a couple of limp payday sparring sessions as of late, he is a superior boxer to the one who gassed and panicked way back when.
Re: Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
No shame in losing to Corrie Sanders who was a very talented heavy

He's boring and safety first, but effective and he's the best. He's been the best for a long time now.
At least he carries himself like a gentleman and has more class than most people, boxers or otherwise.
This is a fair assessment. I always thought Vitali was and is a better champion. jmo...

On a good night Hasim Rahman had the pop to hurt any of the 3. Give me a break. We're talking about skill and heart, here.

I just don't see Ali, Louis, Tyson, Holmes, Bowe or even Lewis being beaten by either of them in their prime. Sorry...

Skill and heart are probably the biggest dysfunctional relationship and inner conflict known to a boxer. You think any of the 3 were showing tremendous 'skill' when being jaw jacked by a Galento, a Jones or Cooper and a Renaldo Snipes?
Anyone with questions about a Sanders heart should check out his war with Rahman. Rahman ironically who said he had never been hit like that in his life!
Re: Can you imagine Louis/Ali/Holmes being beaten by...
If Corrie Sanders came out firing, I think he has a shot against any of those three. He was big, strong and hit fast and hard (until he tired) and he was a southpaw. Louis never fought one, I don't think Holmes did, either. Ali fought Mildenberger but that was a different fighter. In the good old days, southpaws either saw the light or they drowned them. So the surviving lefties, while very rare, were real tough.
