Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
I can see it... he can break the record. His two largest threats he has conquered- David Haye and Kubrat Pulev.
Everyone else should be chalk. Yes, people talk about Wilder- but Wilder's chin is untested and reports have it that he can be rocked and floored with good shots in the gym.
Jennings has the movement, but so too did Pulev. And when Pulev got hit he stood still and waited to be clocked clean out.
There is no one out there than can get close to Wlad... he can and most likely will reach Louis's record.
He is the man, and unbeatable by any other opponent out there in the HW division. That's just the way it is.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
The only true "danger" out there would be Stiverne or Wilder. Wilder hasn't fought any big boppers, he hasn't been tested, he hasn't gone the distance, he is just really green but he has big power and fast hands with a long reach so yeah he's got a chance to KO Wlad if he can just find an opening. Stiverne is a guy who doesn't work all that much in the ring, but he also has a big punch but also a solid chin he's a guy who you can beat up and out box for a long time but he'll still be dangerous later in the fight. Ray Austin for example was outboxing B-Ware and then BOOM a counter punch saw Bermane leave the ring as the winner.
Other than that I don't see much stopping Wlad continuing his dominance....Anthony Joshua MIGHT be able to catch him at the end of Wlad's career, but I doubt it as most heavyweights are brought along so slowly.
I did like the fact that Wlad looked extremely comfortable in the ring from the start...he was up and bouncing on his toes like Ali, he threw punches with bad intentions, he got hit a few times (and I believe he just allowed for that to happen because typically he doesn't get hit at all) but when he got pissed off he ended the fight right there and then!
People love to say "Wlad has the best jab in the business" or "Wlad has the best right cross in the business".... but the thing people forget is that "Wlad also has the best left hook in the heavyweight division" FACT
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
No chance. He only fights twice a year, he needs eight more wins to equal it, right? By this time next year Anthony Joshua will be ready to challenge him, let alone the other possible fighters that could emerge

Wlad would be 42 years old in 4 years....2 fights a year....maybe 3 one year if he gets a quick KO over a mandatory. It's VERY doable putting all your eggs in the Anthony Joshua basket could be dangerous as he has yet to show a consistent championship level as he's a baby to the professional game for the most part.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
I think Wilder can provide a challenge to Wlad especially if he can overcome Stiverne. I also think Fury will provide some difficulty for Wlad. Wlad had taken his time and come back very strongly to dominate the division. All credit to him.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
Lets be honest here, the guy could fight until he's 50 given the present state of this division. Easily doable. And once he's gone the division will actually look competitive. The mediocre that Wlad has dominated will actually look like something much better.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
People believing Deontay Wilder is a "sure thing" over Stiverne need to be careful as Wilder has yet to really be tested and I think Stiverne is a tougher fighter to beat than a lot of people give him credit for. Stiverne may not have a great workrate but he's crafty, he can take a punch, and he can deliver a punch as well.
As for Tyson Fury....the man hasn't fought a real fight in about a year and in that one he got put flat on his ass. I think the man has physical gifts being tall and strong, but he fights in a clumsy manner and has no boxing brain. Also for being as big as he is where's Tyson's power? What fight can you look at and say "That's Tyson's biggest punch and it laid that guy out cold!"?
Bryant Jennings may have an outside shot, but he's got work to do.
Wladimir just showed the world that Kubrat Pulev, who was to be "Wladimir's toughest opponent" wasn't even worth Wlad focusing on defense at all....Wlad landed when he wanted, how he wanted, and when he wanted to end the fight he bloody well did it

Did you look at Wlad's conditioning? He can take 3 fights a year, easy. It is all in the mind.
Wlad could have taken Mormeck, Pianetta and Leapai in the same month.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
I don't think he will, I don't think he has another 8 great fights in him IMO.
Now if he was fighting bums like Johnny Paycheck, Jack Roper, and Fat Tony Galento, maybe he could reach it hahah

4 out of the next 8 if he wants to reach the record will most certainly have to be tune up fights against taxi cab drivers or butchers that started to take their career more important.
But at this rate, after he dispatched Pulev, I don't see how, if he wants the record, can avoid Jennings, Wilder, Stiverne, Fury, Chisora or Ruiz.
Ruiz will most likely be the mandatory WBO challenger after the Chisora/Fury fight... ranked #3 behind #2 Wilder and #1 Chisora, with Fury at # 4.
Wilder is busy with Stiverne... Chisora will lose to Fury knocking him out of the top spot, Fury will go to #2 or #3, Chisora back down to #4 or #5 and Ruiz will be the #1 guy in the WBO for 2015.
Wlad has to defend the WBO version early next year.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
Wlad has stated in the past he wants to go for Louis record but he needs to fight more
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
Wlad could double the record and still not get the credit for it.
It's unfortunate for the people who held these kind of records before him that did it in good HW divisions.
Wlad will beat it no doubt but like I said, true boxing fans will know he didn't have the hardest run to the record.
Re: Wlad can reach or break Joe Louis's record!
Consistency is one of the more difficult things to have in boxing especially as a heavyweight. Joe Louis didn't have the strongest competition, neither did Marciano, but they did what great fighters do they just kept on winning and that's what Wladimir has done. He can only fight who is around in this era.

Neither did Joe Louis in setting the record, though.
When you look at the guys with the long streaks, Joe Louis and Larry Holmes, in all honesty I'd take Wlad's competition over both of those guys. I'd put Joe Louis' competition on the bottom of that pile.
It's another one of those things though where boxing fans feel the need to nut hug the old timers because they think it makes them look more knowledgable. Louis' competition didn't get labelled "Bum of the Month" club for no reason.
