Did some of the lustre come off Rigo?
In Osaka, Japan, Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs), aka El Chacal (The Jackal), from Miami by way of Santiago de Cuba, successfully defended his WBA/WBO super bantamweight titles by stopping Hisashi Amagasa (28-5-2, 19 KOs), from Ota, Gunma, Japan, forcing his corner to call it quits at the end of round 11.
Amagasa had his moments. In the fifth round, after a three-punch combination drove the Japanese fighter to the ropes, which Rigo followed with a straight left, Amagasa gestured as if to say, “Bring it on,” and landed a hard right to the Cuban’s forehead. Rigondeaux was stunned and held on. He kept his distance for almost a minute, giving him time for his head to clear, before landing a straight right at the bell.
it was a competitive fight. Rigo got nailed, hit the deck, and came back from adversity to force the stoppage

I dont think he loses any at all. I think he slept on Amagasa and to make matters worse was a little caught off guard by his height and awkward style. What trouble he did have may actually help him get another big fight. Once he did take it up a notch he did look like his was in a different league then Amagasa. I think a little hubris crept in and he thought he might cruise.
Either one of the two Brits should try to get a crack at him because they'd most likely get home ice. I dont think Haymon will let Cruz near him. Quigg/Frampton of course is a natural but they could also wait that one out. Either man against Cruz would sure be a treat.
He said he never wanted to go up after Donaire but he might have to in search of that glory. I cant see him going near Walters. The dude must be a lightweight at least. Loma would be one hell of a boxing match but here again Arum and Rigo could be on bad terms. Rigo/Gonzalez would be interesting.
I think Rigo took a nap in Japan and we'd see a much different version against any of those guys.

He's clearly pissed off about a lot of things and not being able to fight the best would have been the reason for not a performance as expected. He wants to unify and fight the best but because the rest of the elite would rather fight the other champions he can't get a break. Or a broadcasting company so that makes it even harder.
Eddie Hearn said the other day Quigg would fight anybody except regondeax unless the money was stupid. Showing he knows Quigg would lose, that's fair enough he's not hiding that. If Rigondeaux was fighting the likes of Frampton, Quigg or Santa Cruz he would perform a lot better than that.
The shot that hit him knocked him down but he wasn't really hurt, he got up and got pushed to the floor. After that it woke him up and he got the stoppage, champions can't always perform amazing. But he will learn from that fight.

Rigo is a cut above Frampton Quigg and Cruz, he is levels above them I like Carl and Scott but I feel
they would struggle with Rigo, as Cruz goes Rigo would school him.
Rigo is a hell of a fighter and one I like to watch, a master boxer.

I dont know what you guys were watching but this wasnt a competitive fight. Rigo won every round bar the round he was down in. The 1st KD was just a flash KD and the second was a push. Amagasa landed fuck all and his face was a mess by the end of it. Hes still the best in the div by far.

First of all I haven't seen the fight yet, so I'm taking everyone's word that Rigo controlled the fight, with the exception of one round.
Truthfully, I like Rigo more now than I ever thought I would.
He seems to be getting away from that 'robotic master boxer style' (there's one of my best oxymorons), where every round seems like the last, while Rigo does the minimum, and only takes a KO if it presents itself.
Since the Donaire fight, Rigo seems to be inclined to do more than the minimum to win, which is good in my opinion.
After seeing Amagasa's face, my advice to Rigo's opponents is, don't embarrass him. It turns him into a lion on a fresh carcass, he is definitely going to do more than the minimum to get some!
He got dropped 2:40 of the 7th round and even that round he was dominating. And with his opponents they should not let Rigo start to back them up because that's when he's dangerous which is exactly what he did after the 7th. He started to come forward and landed some good shots. I heard he broke the guys orbital bone and his jaw.

THanks for the link Tam, hadn't seen the full thing. I think Rigo probably took this one a bit lightly and started cruising, but the guy was able to follow up and hurt him against after the first KD so it's interesting. Either way it can't hurt his stock though, guy is great to watch and I don't understand why he's so blackballed. The last few rounds were brutal as he seemed to wake up after getting hurt twice. I love the way he would lead with the straight left as a way to set up the uppercut once the guy was covering up so much, Amagasa took some vicious punishment and probably wishes he'd quit much sooner today, it hurt just looking at his face towards the end.

Was this even televised? If anything I think it gets people talking, wakes him up. Not like it happens all the time and he came back like a brute.

Yea could be, it wouldn't exactly give me confidence watching that if I were a potential opponent, he got caught backing up as he seems prone to, but recovers like a mofo and starts laying a bad beating out for the next round.. If this was an off night for Rigo it's not to shabby of one. What kind of chin must Amagasa have as well, to be taking punches that are literally breaking your face like that. Rigo can crack no question, nobody is going to be less bothered by those type of punches.

Making a name for himself in Japan might make Rigo a viable opponent for the likes of Shinsuke Yamanaka or Tomoki Kameda to step up a weight class to face him :D
