Time to start the 1990's upset thread. And this was textbook only for advanced students though.

Holmes got long due respect from that fight. Mercer had just decapitated Morrison and was considered a real contender and an old Holmes 'schools' him. Magic stuff.

Larry Holmes without question only trained 3 weeks ITS HIS OWN FAULT for his Tyson fight. Had he trained 9 weeks....different story.

Have to give credit to old pineapple head, he was the real deal Holyfield!

I felt Holmes fought to a draw against Holyfield or at least won 5 rounds.

He put up a good effort against Evander and vomited at the end of the fight. He said Holyfield was very strong physically but not skilled.

The fight was being organised at least as early as when Tyson fought Biggs 3 months prior to the Holmes fight. Holmes talks shit because he cannot give any credit to Tyson. He knows he faired better Holyfield, Mercer and McCall and that Mike dealt with him easy and giving Mike any credit is almost as good as saying Mike could beat any Holmes.

Well, that vid gave the verdict.
Anyone ever read Holmes' book "Against the Odds"? He wrote that in the dressing room that night- he felt like cancelling- Something he never felt before.

Thats how good Tyson was.

Tyson would have beaten a fit Holmes at that time. There is no doubt about that.

Now a peak Larry Holmes would be a whole different story.

agreed I also think Tyson tags Larry just like shivers and Snipes did as well. And even Mike Weaver hurt Larry Holmes pretty badly a few occasions. Having said that however I also think that Larry Holmes gets up off the canvas just like he did against shavers & Snipes and goes on to knock out Mike Tyson.
