Fighters who had the most control of their careers
I'm sure there are others, but these guys stand out
Sugar Ray Robinson
Sugar Ray Leonard
Roy Jones Jr
Floyd Mayweather Jr

Yeah good list, I would agree with that.
People talk about how spoiled athletes are today, but they forget Sugar Ray Robinson was no angel himself. He was by all accounts a very shrewd businessman and resorted to a lot of questionable behaviour like agreeing to a pay off for a fight, then showing up the day of and demanding more money from the promoter or he wouldn't fight.

Beat Audley Harrison. Started his pro career as fighter/promoter with £1m in his sky from the BBC.
Re: Fighters who had the most control of their careers
The irony is that arguably the most charismatic and outspoken fighter ever, Muhammad Ali had as little say on his career decisions as anyone could get.

Yancey 'Yank' Durham
*} Made 'all' the decisions for Joe Frazier. But there was a mutual agreement.
*} Joe was never forced into anything.
*} Remember, he {Joe} walked away from the WBA Tournament in 1967.
Cloverlay, Inc. > Was not a bunch of 'old white' guys.
They were a Philadelphia-based community organization of businessman, small business owners,
church groups and local individuals who formed a medium-sized 'syndicate' to back Joe Frazier's
early career.

Interesting topic. I wonder what the percentages would be if you calculated all of the fighters that had or took control and ended up broke because they could not control vs those that stayed affluent and successful after boxing when they had complete control.

Not sure what you mean by "control of their careers", but RJJ seems misplaced here.
Wonderful career, to be sure.... but ended it with some ugly KO losses.
Most surely fought way past his time for retirement.
Under some definitions, it doesn't sound like a man in "control of his career."

If that is your reasoning, then both Sugar Rays suffered some ugly ko losses at the end as well. I think you are missing the gist of this topic...

Odd, they're all black Americans. What about the rest of the world?
What Do Mean By 'Odd'.
George Chuvalo controlled every aspect of his career.

First Frazier and now Chuvalo.
You need to take this on the road and do standup.

Sugar Ray Robinson
Sugar Ray Leonard
Roy Jones Jr all made comebacks lets see if Floyd joins the list.
