Verdejo, Nonito fights last night
Wow... I was surprised to come into the forum and not find a single thread on these fights last night. For those who missed it, Nonito Donaire was involved in a HELL OF A FIGHT last night against Cesar Juarez in the Roberto Clemente Colisseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico. At first it looked like a blowout, as Nonito's speed was blinding and he got two early knockdowns on Juarez. But credit to Juarez and that amazing chin and heart. He was all over Nonito in the latter part of the fight, and Nonito exhibited amazing heart himself. The fight was a war, and a good FOTY candidate.
In the main event, Felix Verdejo continued his methodical rise with a spectacular 2nd round KO of Josenilson Dos Santos, and coming back from his hand injury suffered against Ivan Najera in his last fight.

Great fights and there would have been a thread if not for server issues.
Re: Verdejo, Nonito fights last night
Server issues? Good to know.... here I was cursing at my computer.
Had problems with another forum as well.
Fights were excellent, though.

Yeah it went down sometime yesterday morning my time and was off until I woke up this morning. Perhaps we should all chip in 10 bucks and get an upgrade;D
Re: Verdejo, Nonito fights last night
I was surprised that donaire lasted the fight. By the 7th round, he looked tired and was starting to get hit. He showed a ton of heart. Juarez isn't that skilled but has a very solid chin. Great fight.
Verdejo needs to fight some better competition before I really comment on him. That guy he fought looked terrible. It's like he was pretending to box but wasn't really doing anything.

Felix has super star written all over him. I know what you mean though with all of these future guys consistently matched light but you can see the special in Verdejo even though he's under-matched.

Not sure how big a role his ankle played but thought Donaire dodged a KD call in 10th! Stunned to see Juarez battle back from the first half, Donaire was teeing off on a literal heavy bag and then just hit a wall late. Fantastic scrap by both, Juarez showing some serious grapefruits!
Re: Verdejo, Nonito fights last night
Donaire fight was a cracker although I think the comms were giving Juarez a little more credit than was warranted. That lethal left hook kept getting him out of trouble late in the fight.
Verdejo is collecting a nice amount of highlight reel KO's.

I felt like the commentators were acting as if Juarez had the skill to do certain things. He isn't that skilled and they were saying he should pressure more. I was just thinking that he was literally doing the best he could and was doing pretty well at it. I'm not sure what more they wanted.

He seems good but he doesn't look superstar level talent. He could definitely prove me wrong but I don't think that he will be that great.

Agreed. I can't get over how he had some difficulty with Najera in his last fight. I know that he hurt his hand at some point during the fight, but he still was letting Najera do things that a guy with limited (on world level) natural talent shouldn't be able to do. Then in his next fight Najera was sparked out in one round by Saul Rodriguez. I'm reserving my praise until I see Verdejo in tougher.
Re: Verdejo, Nonito fights last night
It was reported locally that plans are for Verdejo to return to the ring as early as February, and with as many as 3 more fights in early 2016 before a possible title shot in late 2016. Hopefully we won't see any more hand problems, and all questions and doubts should be answered in a year's time.

Frustrating to say the least, although I prefer Saddo it's not the only game in town. There was plenty of MMA to watch also, if you like it.
Re: Verdejo, Nonito fights last night
The Donaire/ Juarez fight was excellent. The injury to the ankle gave Juarez just what he needed to keep Donaire from outmaneuvering him with ease.
