'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9.99 to watch heavyweight title fight on YouTube
September 23 bout will be shown exclusively on video streaming site with early bird price coming in at a tenner and £14.99 thereafter
HUGHIE FURY’S WBO world heavyweight title clash against Joseph Parker will be shown exclusively live on YouTube – but fans are raging at being charged £9.99 to watch it.
Hennessy Sports announced this morning the first for boxing coverage in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The September 23 bout will be shown on the video streaming service – but carry a cost.
Early bird prices available until September 17 will set fans back just under a tenner and it is £14.99 after that.
Sky Box Office usually charge £19.95 for their pay-per-view events, including even their biggest showdowns such as Anthony Joshua’s victory over Wladimir Klitschko last April.
And it’s clear some fans felt Hennessy Sports – who will show the fight through The Boxing Channel on YouTube – were asking for too much.
One user commented: “£10 to watch on YouTube. @eddieHearn please keep up the good work with Sky if this is the alternative.”
Another tweeted: “You’re charging a tenner on YouTube. Surely not.”
A fellow fan said: "I was hoping Channel 5 when I heard it was good news. This takes the p***. Might as well have been ITV pay-per-view."
Chris Boyd said: "This is an absolutely baffling decision. Anyone know what the lowest PPV buy rate in UK history is?"
Iain Gandy said: "This is good for people who live in an area with s*** internet isn't it?"
Lloyd Davies posted: "£10 to watch Hughie Fury on a computer screen #pass."
A fellow Twitter user wrote: "Judging by the lack of people buying a ticket to see it in person, is it really justifiable to charge people £10 to watch it on their phone?"
The undercard will be shown live on YouTube for free.
Also, most modern televisions are smart TVs, meaning sites such as YouTube have their own easily accessible app built in.
Games consoles with the YouTube app or a browser will also allow viewers to watch the action through their set rather than a smaller laptop or tablet screen.
Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
It went from BoxNation to ITV PPV to nothing.
Complete and utter jokers couldn't even sell the "heavyweight championship of the world" to TV.
@ross is itching to bite the bullet and tell us divs why this is exactly what the Fury's planned all along.
Re: 'THIS TAKES THE P***' Hughie Fury vs Joseph Parker: Fans fume at being charged £9
If you don't like it then don't buy it. I don't think it's worth the money
But we'll see what the undercard looks like and go from there.
I don't rate Parker and I've not seen Hughie so this doesn't interest me
But that doesn't mean it won't be a good fight.

Mayweather v conor - £20
AJ v Pulev - £20
Jr v Yildirim - £18
Hughie v Parker - £10
Sky Sports subscription - £30
BoxNation subscription - £12
Now I agree, if you don't think its worth it don't pay for it, the only issue is that it is a fight I would 'like' to watch and I am interested in but I don't agree that it is worth an additional £10
The above is just a rough estimate of what it will cost over the space of a month or 2 to keep up to date with all of the live boxing in the UK , unfortunately it is getting to the point where I am going to have to start missing fights that I would like to watch purely because I can't afford them.

You'll be paying extra for the Alvarez vs Golovkin fight too
I understand what you're saying but don't support it
The Eubank fight was bull shit and should never have been PPV.
£10 for a Heavyweight title fight between two unbeaten fighters isn't bad
Especially when the Joshua fight is twice the price and less interesting.

This is what happens when people get too greedy with the PPV model.
I hope this bombs.
At least put this on Channel 5.

Ginger Pubes v GGG is part of the BoxNation subscription so that won't cost me any more than the usual £12 a month...as far as I know

A guy who hasn't scored a KO at title level , v a guy who hasn't fought at world level , for a belt that is a joke.
Hmmmmmmm isn't tempting at all to be honest.

Agreed.
Hughie has beaten no one.
Does he deserve this shot more than Dillian Whyte?

Whyte is a bum! So yes he deserves a shot more than Whyte.
I don't understand the hate here, two unbeaten fighters
In their primes fighting for a title! It's only £10 guys

Hughie has fought no body to justify fighting for this title, at least Whyte beat Chisora.
