google home, Alexa hacked and how we ruin shit with tech
I just heard on the radio someone was using google home and the told the unit to turn off the lights and the unit said “no” it then began saying other strange things and interrupting conversations the people were having. It asked them to change several passwords. It was found the thing was hacked and the people were being monitored by unknown parties. Do any of u get these things? I imagine they are handy but I wouldn’t trust them, anything is hackable, except the block chain for now. I’ll paste this article it’s an older one but discusses the hacking of the things
Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
RFID chips at work.
hen Patrick McMullan wants a Diet Dr Pepper while he’s at work, he pays for it with a wave of his hand. McMullan has a microchip implanted between his thumb and forefinger, and the vending machine immediately deducts money from his account. At his office, he’s one of dozens of employees who have been doing likewise for a year now.
McMullan is the president of Three Square Market, a technology company that provides self-service mini-markets to hospitals, hotels, and company break rooms. Last August, he became one of roughly 50 employees at its headquarters in River Falls, Wisconsin, who volunteered to have a chip injected into their hand.
The idea came about in early 2017, he says, when he was on a business trip to Sweden—a country where some people are getting subcutaneous microchips to do things like enter secure buildings or book train tickets. It’s one of very few places where chip implants, which have been around for quite a while, have taken off in some fashion.
The chips he and his employees got are about the size of a very large grain of rice. They’re intended to make it a little easier to do things like get into the office, log on to computers, and buy food and drinks in the company cafeteria. Like many RFID chips, they are passive—they don’t have batteries, and instead get their power from an RFID reader when it requests data from the chip (McMullan’s chip includes identifying information to grant him access to the building, as well as some basic medical information, for instance).
Apparently this is big in Sweden, getting RFID chips in ones hand and using it as a credit card, a key and can hold other personal info. They claim it’s safe and not “easy” to hack. WTF is going on, why do people want this shit installed.

Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
There was another story of a couple having a conversation about decorating and that was accidently sent by a devise to a friend of theirs. They were shocked.
Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
Yeah I heard that master. There was also a murder case in the US where the govt was trying to get amazon to give them anything the Alexa device recorded in the home where I guy was accused of killing his wife. Who knows how much of your private shit those things record
Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
Why on earth would anybody want to install a surveillance device in their house, when we all already know that these companies hoover up and abuse all your data, just like gigantic vampire squids??

It is sold as smart technology offering you a service at your command.
Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
Yes, I know ...... but it is really a surveillance device for the companies concerned.

That would be an infringement on the civil liberty of a person. It should not happen.

And not just the companies anymore. Third parties are hacking these things and watching/listening to what you do. It’s creepy

Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
Wait till Alexa gets arms and legs. There's gonna be hell to pay.
Re: Those google home and Alexa are being hacked
Phones are the real bug now. Have no use for 'Alexa' unless she really digs me and runs her fingers through my hair on the way home. Seriously, everything is connected now with little effort and I still suspect my brand new cable box has a mini cam ;D.
