Sunny Edwards v Galal Yafai

Former flyweight world champion Sunny Edwards will face Olympic gold medallist Galal Yafai in an all-British fight.

The contest will take place at BP Pulse Live in Birmingham on 30 November.

Edwards, 28, beat Adrian Curiel in June after losing his IBF flyweight title and unbeaten record to Jesse 'Bam' Rodriguez last December.

Birmingham's Yafai, 31, has won all seven pro fights with five stoppages. He has been fast-tracked in the pro ranks after capturing gold at the Tokyo Olympics.

The pair know each other well having sparred several rounds as part of the Team GB set-up and as professionals.

They fought once in the as amateurs, with Edwards wining their 2015 bout by split-decision.

"This fight has always been inevitable," said Londoner Edwards. "Our last names hold weight in British boxing and around the world - and it's really time to put to bed the Edwards-Yafai saga.

"Being overlooked for the Olympic Games because of family relationships and city ties lit a fire all those years back. I beat Galal and was shelved in the same year back in 2015 and now this is my chance to show Britain who the real golden boy is."

Yafai added: "I’m happy that the fight has been made. This is going to be a massive fight for British boxing.

"I need to win a world title, and this is a fight that will put me on the cusp of fighting for one when I win in my hometown."

This ain't fight for the casuals. This is one for the hardcore.

Yafai is 31, but sorta seen as the next gen. 7 fights in 3 years since he won gold in the olympics is a disgrace on the part Eddie Hearn. If he waits until he's 15-0 with the way he's been managed he'll be mid 30's.

So at 31 already, this is a "now or never" type fight for him. Not to mention Sunny is as feather fisted as feather can be, hombre couldnt buss a grape with a hammer. So unlikely Yafai gets damaged too much even if he loses.

But even with Sunny's lack of power, he's still a formidable opponent for Yafai, Sonny's only loss is to a future HOF in BAM and he has the psychological edge because he has a win over Yafai in the amateurs. Head says Sunny but I gotta a feeling Galal will pull off the win.

It is a good fight and for some reason Yafai is favourite.

Sunny has much more experience and only lost to the very best. I got Sunny for this one.

Callum Smith won in 5 rounds against a game journeyman but can't see Smith win another big fight.

Very fast aggressive start from Yafai to win the first round.

Sunny looks despondent in the corner after round 2. Like he is crying.

Yafai is all over him.

Yafai is battering Sunny who looks like he does not want to be there. His corner are trying to motivate him to carry on.

Sunny sounds like he's on the verge of capitulation in that corner, all Yafai over three. Has anyone ever called Yafai dirty? He gets away with some forearms and elbow type work in there.
