Anyone know how much Byrd got paid for this fight? I read he only got $300,000 for his last fight. And Wlad too? I wonder if this was his biggest pay day.

He pulled in 1.2 million when he beat Holyfield. I don't know about his other fights.
lampley and merchant said it was his biggest purse ever
lampley said he had better options that were easier fights and merchant interrupted and said no he didnt, this is the biggest payday of his career
Easier fights doesn't mean "bigger paycheck"
This is old news but all i could find:
Don King, in a last ditch effort to save the fight, offered Chris Byrd $3.5 million dollars to seal the deal. Chris Byrd was still not sold and balked at the offer.
Probably Byrd had high hopes of winning competitively & landing another shot @ other paydays...that & the fact that fighting Wlad in Germany probably netted him the 3 mill that he was promised by D.K. for the past 3 or 4 years.
Tracy was talking retirement prior to the fight...he can retire off of 2 or 3 mill & he didn't have to split that shat with no crooked ass promoter either.
Chris would never want to go out like this. He has never been knocked out(for a 10 count) in his career. Don't think Byrd's the type of fighter who's ok walking away with a payday if he just got knocked out. Either he takes another shot at a title or he fights in Michigan and wins spectacularly and then retires.
Another reason I hate Don King is that he squandered Chris' prime, after Chris beat Holyfield Chris should have fought every 5 months instead of every 12. who knows he may have beaten Ruiz and Sanders but we'll never know now.
he is done. who will fight him? noone. like i said in another thread, it would take 4-5 fights to get a title shot. by then hed be about 38. not going to happen. anyway, does anyone know how much he and wlad got paid for this one? i wouldnt doubt if wlad got more.Quote:

Apparently that may be true for the other weight divisions. But in the Heavyweight division all you need is one good fight and you're back in title contention or your in it, no matter how bad you just lost. Look at Wladimer Klitschko :)
Agreed there too...but comparing Klitschko to Byrd is something that really shouldn't be done.Quote:

We could go on & on...but in the end...it boils down to the power issue...& in the HW division...that's a necessity.
Yes.
But for example, if Samuel Peter wins on FNF he will be back in contention despite beating a bum, Byrd would beat Samuel Peter to become number one contender for a title and he's back in it.
Wladimer got a shot at Brewster by beating Darnell Nicholson didn't he?
It does come down to style but all it takes is one win in the heavyweight division.Thats how bad it is.
I see your point...but I honestly am starting to dig on the division now.Quote:

Interesting.
I agree. But I don't think there will ever be a unification, the guy Wladimer just beat wanted a unification worse then anyone and it never happened. I would like to see all 4 of these guys go at it. But if Rahman loses. We have Maskaev, and Liakovich and Valuev and Klitschko. Their first defenses, Liakovich: McBride. Valuev: Owen Beck. They call for unification but this is what we get. I think Wladimer Klitschko will be on many HBO fights and look spectacular against up and coming prospects while Sergei is the Margarito of the division of the WBO until Brewster get another crack, Valuev will never come to the US and Rahman or Maskaev the jury is out but James Toney gets a shot at the winner. I don't think we're close to unifying :'(
wait, when is sam peter gonna be on FNF? ??? ??? ???
