The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
I know nobody here cares about the NFL..... but just wanted to say that my Pittsburgh Steelers are in the process of beating their hated rivals the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore with 2 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.
Their games are always close, and it's a heated rivalry.
So I'm happy.
I'll be posting in here from time to time.
Anyone's comments are always welcome. ;D

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
That was an interesting read about their rivalry when I googled it.
My knowledge is near zero, so we use to have it on channel 4 and the refrigerator was big. Think his name was Perry?
I was a fan of Washington Redskins for no special reason than they were the capital of USA.
I did not enjoy watching it because I did not really understand the rules but played it a couple of times at school where they would pull a white cloth from your belt rather than smash you.
That is the full and complete state of my knowledge.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
William 'Refrigerator' Perry....back when football was worth a damn.
The game was built on hard hits and now that's against the rules. Shame.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Never really been a fan, don't mind watching highlights tho.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
I still enjoy it. I don't think the "powers that be" will let the league sink into the abyss. Too much money involved. The NFL is big business. They'll recalibrate and come around and find an acceptable solution. Hell.... they're always tweaking.
Sometimes too much. But the atmosphere, rivalries, crowd, electricity....... it's unbeatable.

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)

Great movie. Brought to the forefront a problem that exists not only with the NFL, but potentially with other sports as well. Still... the NFL continues to thrive. It's on them to continue to find ways to provide top-level entertainment without ruining the sport for the fans, while at the same time addressing the health issues. A fine line and not an easy one to tread.... but I'm sure they'll figure it out.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Nobody EVER said concussions and/or losing consciousness was beneficial to a person's health.
'member when the ESPN types wanted WOMEN to play football with/against the men? I 'member!

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Have to say..how bout dem Saints! 8-1 half way and Brees hitting 2nd in all time passing yards. That man is on fire and needs to be because the career window is narrowing. Towns going crazy with the P word :-X but steady as we go!

That's right, you're a Saints man. ;D
You've got every right to be excited. Right now there's a narrow ledge at the top, with the Saints, Chiefs, and Rams all jockeying for position. Was happy to see Brees reach his milestones... he's a class act as well as an ATG. Amazing he can be as successful as he is at QB with a slightly lower than optimum height at the position. Got a relative who doesn't like the Saints, but it stems from Bounty-gate back a few years ago. He's cooled off on that, but still can't stand Sean Payton. I don't mind the Saints at all, especially since they're in the same division as the Panthers and Bucs, and I'm not much into either team.

Next Monday night the NFL planned to have their Kansas City Chiefs vs Los Angeles Rams showdown (they're both 9-1 on the season thus far) in Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. But poor field conditions forced the league to change the location to the Los Angeles Coliseum, home of the Rams. Too bad... I know Mexicans have taken a liking to American football. That's gonna be a good game, too.
I wonder if some of the caravan members would've taken time off from their trip and try to attend the game in Mexico. ;D

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
One of the highest scoring nfl games in progress just now.... 54-51 la rams v Kansas. ... they won't make it to the highest combined score of 113 but there is only five hundred plus pint games in nfl history... not bad... I like Kansas even if the traitors play in misouri... 1.35 left Kansas have ball and three time outs
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Ahhh bollocks intercepted by la rams... that'll be it then
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Was wondering if anyone else was watching this game. ;D
Wow... a game that lived up to the hype. Like two heavyweight champions slugging it out. Instant classic, that will be talked about for a long time. Probably a Super Bowl preview, although you can't count out the Saints, Patriots, or Steelers.
I'm glad I stayed up till the end.... it's 1 am here.

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Apparently that was a good game, and that's nice, but does anyone run the football anymore?
See Alex Smith get the Joe Theisman treatment :OhNo:

My issue isn't so much with girls playing football, I played on several football teams with a girl playing and that's fine, she wasn't a great or good player, but whatever, she played I didn't see her as any different as any of the other players. My issue is with ESPN and the idiot sports journalists/commentators who constantly push garbage like that Women are equal to Men in strength or that Football is inherently dangerous and will kill everyone who ever plays/has played...they are doing nothing other than pushing a narrative so THEY the reporters and journalists can be the story instead of the sport being the story or the game being the story.

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
I'm just going along for the ride. ;D
I love good defensive games... but a good ol' shootout is wonderful as well. You had two high-octane offenses last night, going tit-for-tat. Mahomes is awesome, the real deal. He played superbly last night, even with the times he got roughed up. Goff was right behind him, though. It very well could've been a Super Bowl preview, although you can't count out the Saints. The atmosphere was electric... I'll bet the Estadio Azteca people are kicking themselves for not having the field in condition for the game, and having it changed back to L.A.
Some calls are still maddening but what can you do..... at least they're called evenly on all sides.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Dallas v phillidelphia, is having an interesting end to it.. some strange refereeing decisions on that scoring drive for phillidelphia. . For both sides. .. could be going to extra time here...
Mon the cowboys
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Cowboys bungle it.. not far from field goal range, 3rd down one timeout, the git buggers up the snap.. therefore a sack and even further back. Kills there timeout too.. so extra time it is.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Oh nice. Extra time and Dallas are on fourth down one yard from first dow, around the 20 something yard line and they go for it an get it..good work Dallas. American football is one of the best sports to watch at the end of games.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Dallas wins.. bit of luck there... deflected on a phillidelphia player and cowboy catches it gets touchdown and therefore wins, seems a crap eat to end overtime and very dependent on a coin toss but wotever... Philadelphia seem better than their record suggests
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Didn't get to see the whole game..... only knew it was 6-0 at halftime. As long as the NY Giants don't win, I don't really have a favorite in that division. I used to be a Cowboy hater, but that was back when they used to call themselves America's Team. ;D
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
I am sympathetic to the cowboys as the old git who owns them does really seem to love them and im not north american so as long as I have been here they seem to always be a bit crap :S.... especially poor old Romo. I do not have a favourite nfl team, I just find it a good sport to watch once the meaningfull games start.. nfl playoffs contain so many amazing moments regularly that I think it actually might be fixed.
Chicago v saint Louis rams now.. now work for me tomorrow. So me drunk

Yes...... I missed some good boxing during my recent week and a half trip to Denver, but.............................
I caught the Broncos - Browns game................... LIVE. ;D ;D :happy0931sb4:  :rocks: :usa:  :cold: :crowd: :cheerleader:
I was cold, but it was good. Great crowd..... great game..... great seat. It was my 2nd Broncos game. Last year I was in Denver also and caught the Broncos - Jets.

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Been overdosing on the NFL Wild Card playoffs this weekend. So far 3 out of the 4 games have concluded.
Indianapolis Colts 21, Houston Texans 7 - Must admit being surprised by this one. I thought with Deshaun Watson and Houston's D-line they would win at home. But Luck played great and Indy's defense is underrated, IMO.
Dallas Cowboys 22, Seattle Seahawks 20 - Typically not a Cowboys fan, but I don't hate them as much as I used to. Still... I don't think the 'Boys advance too far from here.
Los Angeles Chargers 23, Baltimore Ravens 17 - I REALLY didn't want the Ravens to win, and the damn Chargers almost coughed up a 23-3 lead in the 4th quarter. Would've been an epic meltdown.
Right now the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles are locked in a defensive struggle.

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Ok ok..................... I know you're all sitting on pins and needles. ;D ;D
Well, the Eagles pulled it off, upsetting the Bears 16-15 in Chicago. So much for the NFL's top-rated defense. Which means the schedule for the Divisional Championships is set.
Next Saturday:
Indianapolis Colts at the Kansas City Chiefs - I could be wrong, and I'm a pretty lousy NFL game prognosticator, but I think the Colts' luck (pardon the pun) runs out on this one. The Chiefs are probably Super Bowl bound.... they're that good.
Dallas Cowboys at the Los Angeles Rams - Well I already said the Cowboys wouldn't go beyond the next round, and I'm sticking to it. I think the Rams win comfortably.
Next Sunday:
Los Angeles Chargers at the New England Patriots - Tom Brady's getting old.... and NE isn't the dominating juggernaut it used to be. Still, it's hard to pick against them in New England. The Patriots win in a squeaker.
Philadelphia Eagles at the New Orleans Saints - I know the Eagles just beat the mighty Bears, but Trubisky is no Drew Brees. This one is tough to call, but I think the Saints take it in front of their home fans.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Poor old bears kicker.... that's half bad luck and half a bungle. ... he made it first time but phillidelphia used the old late timeout trick on him and he buggered the second a tempt. ...feel bad for him, missing a kick like that right at yhe end could finish his career. Eagles have some good stuff but I think foles will be their undoing lightning isn't striking twice here and new Orleans should be able to out score them....even though eagles have a good defence...
What the dickens were the Seattle defence thinking too.. they gave away two bad pass interefence penalties on consecutive 3rd downs.... Seattle of a few years ago would never do that... good fortune for Dallas and eagles but I concur i think both are out next round....
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
I only watched the two later games, too early for me on west coast time to see the first games on Saturday and Sunday.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Momentum is a funny thing (and key in us sport playoffs) so I wouldn't be surprised if a eagles team on a high catches a snoozing new Orleans team.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Wild card teams that come into the playoffs scratching and clawing (and peaking) many times make the most dangerous of opponents. Right now the Chargers (although they had a good enough record to have been division leaders, except for the KC Chiefs) and the Eagles fit that narrative. Of the 4 visiting teams next week, I think those 2 could surprise, although the Colts seem pretty hot too. I think only the Rams-Cowboys game is a done deal.

Hoping for no blowouts and four nail-biting games. I'll do my best to keep the forum up to speed. :D

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Chargers v patriots could be very interesting, the broadcaster seem to be hyping up the chargers and rivers a lot, I suspect there is a pro l. A. Conspiracy, I would be on the look out for some dodgy ref decisions in both Los Angeles games. But they are also up against darling Brady.... Ref mafia might not know what to do.

It's supposed to be really cold. I'll bet the game balls will be guarded heavily. ;D

Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Wow the Chiefs have started red-hot. Weather's no factor. Gonna be uphill for the Colts from here on in.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Mahomey fell pretty bad over that guys helmet though, that could be a potentially bad injury.. or he could be fine.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Colts offense hasn't done much. Tough to expect their defense to carry the load. In fact, their 7 belongs to the defense.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
31-13 Chiefs. Whoever wins between the Chargers and Patriots tomorrow are going to have a tall task in trying to beat Kansas City at home next week.
Now it's the Rams dominating the Cowboys at home.
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Chiefs squashed em good.... Dallas are still in this game... rams have to be the favourite though. .. Mon the cowboys
-
Re: The Lonely NFL Thread (complete with tumbleweeds)
Dallas put up a good fight, but it's over. You gotta figure the home teams tomorrow are favored also. Chargers might make it interesting vs the Patriots, but I don't see the Eagles presenting too many problems for the Saints in New Orleans.

Well, I was right on my picks. ;D
Except the Pats-Chargers wasn't a squeaker. Only the Eagles-Saints game was close and came down to the wire.
Early picks for next Sunday:
Pats at Chiefs: It's too difficult to pick against Mahomes at home. Although the Pats dismantled the Chargers at home, I think they fall to the Chiefs next week. Like I said, the Chiefs look Super Bowl bound.
Rams at Saints: Saints had to overcome an early Philly lead, while the Rams looked pretty comfortable against the Cowboys. But Brees at home is formidable. I think the Saints win and meet the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.
The two best teams in the NFL this year.
