Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
Pardon my Trumpism in the title, but what fights did we miss in the last years we should have gotten but did NOT for some shitty reason or the other?
The first and obvious thing that comes to mind is the Lennox Lewis vs Riddick Bowe fight we never got. What a shame. But I believe the fuck up is on the Bowe side because I knew he felt he was not up to taking Lewis to a 12 round decision. lolol... Bowe did not want that rematch with Lewis because he knew he could not beat Lewis. That was my take!
James Toney vs Nigel Benn. CLEARLY a fight that should have been made but was not.
James Toney vs Chris Eubank. Not so much as Toney v Benn, but still should have been made. For the history books just to say this happened!
Shane Mosely vs Felix Trinidad. I know, I know... Trinidad scooted up in weight but so did Oscar and a lot of guys and they still found ways to make fights. We should have gotten this fight. Damnit!
James Toney (heavyweight Toney) vs Chris Byrd. Would have been a fight worth watching I reckon!? lol...
Roy Jones vs Dariusz Michelsheki (or some shit like that). lol.... Roy would have probably beaten the shit out of him back then but since the white-Euros felt that Dariusz was worth shit, then who am I to judge? lol...
Any other fights come to mind?

Now that I think of it, Froch vs Calzahe could have been made. Froch vs DeGale too. lol... Froch bitched out more than the second Ward fight. lolol... He took Groves instead of the Olympic medalist in DeGale because he felt Groves was beatable and had less skills.

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
Now that we are here mentioning Naz....
Naz vs Money Mayweather at lightweight could have been made. For sure. Back in 2000 or so.
;D

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
Good ones. Two that jump out for me..
Toney vs Hopkins in the nineties.
Morales vs JMM speaks for itself, and for each it seems like the only important rival they didn't fight .

I think Duran has too much for Pryor although that would be a fun fight while it lasted but Arguello/Duran is an intriguing clash of styles. Duran obviously naturally bigger but even at lightweight, it is a hell of a tear up still.

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
Jesus fucking christ, that video is depressing, those kids should be shot let alone ever allowed to make videos on boxing. One of the kids is British yet doesn't know the difference between Benn and Eubank? Calzaghe - "he be great and all" - but he ain't got names like McClellan beat?
I apologise to anyone on this forum I ever thought was clueless....... apart from you, and you, yeah you, and of course you. Fact. Oh and you and you and you. And you and you and you.

Groves had already defeated DeGale when Froch fought Groves.

Groves had already defeated DeGale when Froch fought Groves.
Whilst that is true, it was very early on in both their careers and the ironic thing was Froch criticised Calzaghe for not facing him when he was next in line but then did the same to De Gale when he was in that position.

Depends when the fight would have happened, in 2004 Morales defeated Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez, in 2005 he beat Pacquiao, and Marquez in 2004 had the first fight with Pac and he beat Salido.

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
I don’t feel that Floyd ducked anyone, so this is in no way a jab/shot against Floyd. I will say that I would have loved to have seen Floyd fight Kostya Tszyu, Paul Williams, and Winky Wright at certain points in his career. I think he beats Kostya handily at 140, but feel it is a tough fight for him until the late rounds due to Tszyu’s strength and physicality. Williams was much taller than Floyd, and Winky was much larger overall (height and size), and both would have presented certain stylistic problems for Floyd. Winky is likely asking too much of Floyd, but like Pernell Whitaker vs Julio Caesar Vasquez, I think Floyd could have risen to the occasion and beaten the larger man by very close decision. I feel Floyd fights Paul Williams similar to how he fought Chico Corralles, lots of movement, counters and punishing jab to the body. I don’t fault Floyd for those fights not being made, just really wish it had worked out since I think they would have brought out the best in him.

I think it's interpretative. The almost two sabbatical years Floyd took after Hatton fight and the size difference, Paul was already a middleweight in 2009 when Floyd come back, left indeed a very narrow window of time for this fight to happen; so I don't argue with anyone who believes (feels) like you but considering the two fights Floy took before and after the very long vacation, were against one smaller guy and the other one against a much smaller one and the fact Paul was arguably the best welterweight out there ....
What we talk about ... ?
Oh yes, Pretty boy ducked The Punisher !

Marquez is a couple years older than Morales. Truth is, Marquez was a nobody during Morales pomp, they weren't matched for the same reason he wasn't with Naz - the "boring" Mexican. Cagey counter puncher.
Morales was never too old, as he showed against Maidana and Garcia at 140. Legend.

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
Most of the big ones have already been mentioned. A couple I would have liked:
De La Hoya vs Tszyu.
Mayweather vs Martinez.

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
I think most of the obvious great matches have already been mentioned. So I'll just throw in a few quirky or strange matches that were missed in history but theoretically could have been made that haven't been mentioned.
- Teófilo Stevenson Vs Muhammad Ali.
- Pac-Man Vs Edwin Valero
- Kimbo Slice Vs Brock Lesnar

Re: Fights we missed in history. YUGE and BIGGLY "What ifs?"
Ali wanted to fight Floyd Patterson to become the youngest heavyweight champion but Liston got in before which was probably deserved.
