Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Im sure alot of people are excited for this fight like I am. I know everyone says Mayweather will win and chances are he will, but I'm one that believes Cotto still has a shot. So he shouldn't be counted completely out. Either way I want to see what you guys think.

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Cotto's chances of victory are slim to none. He'll get punked and schooled just like Henry Bruseles but to a lesser extent. Floyd is going to disect him round by round and get em outa there late..
Cotto beat a handicap in Margo but let's not get too excited cuz him VS Floyd aint really a fight. haha

Ya i can see floyd beating him easily if he stays away but if hes gonna be coming forward with his gaurd up like with mosley and ortiz i can see it being quite a fight....
But let me get this straight, so without the use of plaster margarito is now considered handicapped? I thought that would've made it a fair fight...

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Mayweather UD 9 rounds to 3. I'll be rooting for Cotto, but ...

when a fighters eye closes by the 4th round he is handicapped.

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
The problem for Cotto is he doens't know how to fight off the back foot at all. Manny caught him repeatedly by moving backwards then coming in quickly and Cotto can't get out of the way. Mayweather on the oher hand is far more mobile, and when he moves out of Cotto range he will counter over count, around, underneath and Cotto won't be able to react quick enough. To make matters worse, Cotto doesn't actually have a huge arsenal of punches that will really hurt Mayweather, it's basically his left hook to the head or body, and like Oscar we might never see him land a solid one. I think mayweather has also stiffened up his jab a lot since then, and he has better learned how to stand his ground and comit more to the right hand. All in all Cotto could present some interesting challenges, but he will be a little too slow, and just technically outmatched like everyone else because they look for the wrong stuff to beat maweather.

Im completely counting Cotto out and not excited by this fight. The guy has such a small chance I cant even begin to think of him winning. His only chance is if he some how gets Mayweather with the best haymaker of the year and hope to god the ref counts fast. I dont see cotto with any chance of winning on points. The speed, technique and power are all on Mayweathers side. He is in a different league.
Watch a recent Vlad Klitchko fight, very good comparison on how competetive this fight will be.
My guess is an easy UD if Mayweather uses his normal style. And a KO if he fights him like he fought Ortiz.
But I will stick with a wide UD with Mayweather winning by about 6 rounds.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
I'm actually pretty excited over this fight and give Cotto every chance in the world early doors.. the first few rounds could be classic.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Floyd will be too good for Cotto and I see him winning 3 rounds max. Floyd by wide UD.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
I see the fight going a similar way to PBF v Hatton, competitive for the first 6 rds, then PBF pulling away in the second half of the fight.
Cotto's gameplan is key.
Coming up with an effective gameplan and executing it against PBF is not going to be easy, but hopefully he will.

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
I think Cotto needs to land his low blows early, work his way up to the body in the mid rounds and then close with the head.
In all honesty I think Cotto will start strong maybe even scoring a KD in the 2nd or 3rd round, after that Mayweather should dominate winning the fight 9-3
Cotto should also look at getting some judges from Texas.

So says a bitter Margo fan... LOL. Surprised you didn't predict a 1st round KO.
I think Floyd's rightfully favored in this fight. But unlike bitter Margo fans and Cotto haters, I feel it'll be a competitive, entertaining fight. Cotto has to fight the fight of his life, no doubt about it. But "punked and schooled"? And comparing Cotto to Henry Bruseles? What a load of shit. Oh well, expected nothing else. Time for the other groupies to chime in.

You dont have to be a Margarito fan to know that he was handicapped. If he wasnt Cotto wouldnt have faught him again. He did wait for Margarito's career to be completely destroyed and for him to look completely pathetic in his fights to fight im again. And Cotto will be punked and schooled against Mayweather. He wont be able to make it into a fight and he doesnt have the speed or the stamina to keep up with Mayweather.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
This is the fight of the year for me. I know Floyd will win this 8 rounds 4 or even 9-3 but if Cotto can use his experience, dictate the tempo of the fight with his new found composure, I think he could possibly win another few more rounds at this weight, which makes it a pretty close and very interesting fight.

The thing is with Mayweather is his defense, he can make a great fighter, (think JMM) look like an amateur. I'd love to see Miguel win, but it would have to be considered a big upset, I still like Cotto's chances.

You're not a groupie, so I'll treat your opinion differently. To your point about Margarito... Cotto didn't even want to fight him after he found out that he had tried to cheat against Mosley and had very likely cheated against him (once a cheater always a cheater). A natural reaction, don't you think? Eventually, he changed his mind. I'm sure he wanted to get that thorn off his side once and for all. So while you declare that Cotto's masterplan was to wait until Margarito was damaged goods to fight him again, I think you're going out on a thin limb there.
As for Cotto being "punked and schooled" (the "in" phrase for Floyd groupies and/or Cotto haters, I guess), who knows? Anything is possible in boxing. Cotto may not match up well with Mayweather. Lots of fighters haven't. Cotto doesn't need to prove anything else in his illustrious career. This would just be a feather in his cap. I will tell you, however, that Cotto showed remarkable adaptability in going back to his old boxing and moving style against Margafucko. He jabbed, he clinched at key moments, he pushed Margafucko back instead of letting it be done to him, and.... he chose his moments to engage in toe-to-toe exchanges with the cheater. All in all, a masterful performance. You may not think much of it, but your opinion is apparently not shared by those who put together the Cotto-PBF match. If not for Cotto's showing, they would've found some other opponent for Floyd.
I'm not going to sit here and predict a Cotto win. But I am going to say that most likely it will be a competitive, entertaining fight. Something Floyd against other opponents hasn't always given us fans. And IMHO, yes.... Cotto has a chance to pull off the upset.

That's what I was explaining to my friend on PAC vs Marquez 3 that just cuz he looked bad vs mayweather doesn't mean hes gonna look bad vs pacquiao. I explained to him how if you have 2 great defensive fighters but one is bigger then the other the bigger one will always win easily because the little guy will have to go offensive and move out of his specialty the big guy just has counter and get out of the way which ofcourse is his specialty. There's other examples to but I'll just stick to that basic one I like to think of it as some one fighting an up hill battle too ;)

I believe the same if it goes to cards I got it 8-4 but I wouldn't be surprised if it got scored 7-5 or 9-3 I just like this fight very much I believe it'll be great and entertaining and fight of the year.

A few more rounds from Cotto, with the low blows to annoy Floyd and it could swing in Cotto's favour. ;)

Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
Cotto will give a good account of himself, but it's Mayweather's defensive skills that will win him the fight. I just don't see Cotto hitting him enough to take a decision. Mayweather will land plenty and win a wide UD. Cotto will make him work it for it though and Maywether will need all of those defensive skills, i see neither fighter winning by KO. Mayweather by UD 117-111 with Cotto winning a few early rounds. Mayweather is a master of working out his opponent, he comes to the ring with a plan B, he will simply outbox Miguel Cotto.

I thought the DLH fight was a blowout. 9-3. The judges were delusional (as were the fans who went crazy every time Oscar threw an ugly 4-punch combo at the air).
I'm not an Oscar fan but I am a Cotto fan, so I wish it were true. But it's not.

From Cotto via SD, to Floyd SD/UD. Don't be surprised if l change my mind again. That's how close the fight is going to be imo.
1 thang fosho though. l aint sig betting on this fight. Uh-uh, no sir.

Cotto will get stopped on cuts, but I dont see him getting dropped nor dazed in the entire fight. Mayweather tko round 6.

I think it'll be like his fight with Pac. Competitive for a few rounds then Cotto will retreat . I just don't see him being the one to be able to beat Mayweather.
-
Re: Mayweather Vs Cotto Predictions
You lot dont seem to think its gonna be much of a fight. Even the ones excited about this fight on average think Cotto will lose by about four rounds. How can a fight like this get you excited.
I hope to god im wrong and Cotto has a chance of winning but I just cant believe hes got the slightest chance. Im sticking with my first opinion. Mayweather wins 9 rounds to 3.
-
Some of the posts here are very disrespectful to Cotto. Guys never been "punked" in his career. Pacquaio was the closest and I still believe if he didn't go toe to toe with Pac we'd have had a competetive fight until the end. But hindsight 20/20 and all that..
Mars_ax and PSL are actually spot on so Kudos to you boys being Pac fans and all. I think this is competetive up until a late Floyd Mayweather K.O..maybe round 10 like the Hatton fight.
Another thing underated by everybody and his opponents is Floyds power. Hence my pick for the K.O. Floyd can turn it on whenever he feels like it (see Hatton round 8)
Leighton just because people are predicting a Floyd win doesn't mean it's not worth watching or wont be a good fight. Everybody has a prediction pre-fight. Using your logic, nobody would watch any fight, ever.

Cotto's ability to move on his back foot has improved with his new trainer, Diaz. He did a better job of moving backward in spots against Margarito in their second fight. However, Diaz also has turned Cotto into more of a boxer than the seek-and-destroy fighter he was previous to Margarito I. If Cotto could combine the previous version of himself with his improved ability to move backward, he would have his best chance for a win. Cotto can't box with Mayweather. Thus, I believe the chances of Cotto winning are slim to none. Still, I anticipate it'll be fun viewing.

He's lost two fights. One to a cheater, where he was smart enough to take a knee and avoid getting pummeled by plaster casts... and another where the REF stopped the fight. But what the hell am I doing even acknowledging your stupidity in this forum? You sure that baseball bat didn't actually hit you on the head?

Cotto fought a guy with cement blocks on his knuckles when gave up. Floyd has brittle hands. Common sense dictates that you are more likely wrong with your theory there homie.
