i'm watching the replay on hbo of vargas and de la hoya. Vargas has to be the most overrated boxer in recent memory. His name is well known but has lost to tito, the golden boy and sugar shane. 0 for 3!

:coolclick:, No kidding. I always say this about Vargas.
Mayorga will turn out the same..... :P
Vagras was a star at the beginning of his career, beating Winky, Quartey, Campas etc etc and despite losing to tito, oscar and Shane... he gave them a hell of a fight.
He's no atg but he's a pretty good fighter for sure.
THING IS HE GOT HIMSELF IN TO MANY WARS EARLY... HE WAS SHOT 3-4 YEARS AFTER HIS CAREER BAGAN... HE WAS A RISING STAR, THOUGH
Theres no Shame in losing to Tito, Moseley and Dela Hoya
He beat some good names, he just cant win the career defining ones.
Least he can say he feared no one....
How many Supposed P4P can say that these days! ;)
SO TRUEQuote:

I have a post about this kind of thing quite a long one my first ever one the forum, but I dont know where it is.
End of the day, Vargas will be remembered for the great fights he had, and a never say die attitude, his persona, and the wars will be etched in boxing memory, therefor he has laid his name in boxing elite.
He also won a world title.
Vargas is a good guy really a very good fighter, and I for one rate him very highley.
If I had his career and had the losses to Moselet ODLH and Trinidad, arguably three of the greatest boxers of our generation, I wouldnt be too upset :D
HEAR PEOPLE DOGGING HIM ALL THE TIME AAND I REITERATE THAT TO PEOPLE CONSTANTLY. HE ALWAYS PUT ON AN EXCITING AS HELL FIGHT
I cant wait to see him fight again, least if you pay your money to watch him, you get your moneys worth.
Again not too many of these BIG NAME boxers are providing much in giving back a good fight to thier fans.
Vargas will always be there or there about, and he has a lot left to give in my opinion, whether thats a bad thing or not, we yet to determine, I hope he doesnt do himself harm.
One thing I always liked about Vargas, he really looks the part!
No, because he beat the guy that beat Shane. And Vargas couldn't beat Shane ;)Quote:

YA KNOW? ;)
Thats not Valid ground, Mayorga has to beat Shane not beat a man who beat him, if that was the case many brilliant fighters on that account would lose to no hopers.....
Either way Mayorga hasnt beaten anyone of great noce apart from Forest he lost to Tito, and he will lose to Oscar, I bet my life on it...... :o
Before 6 heads had no chin he was believed to be the heir apparent to Shane and his biggest threat. Then he met Mayorga ;D
TRUE BUT CAN WE HONESTLY SAY THIS WAS THE SAME FERNANDO?Quote:

Mayorga wins sometimes in big fights though. Vargas doesn't.Quote:

Vargas comes to fight every time out, end of story. I don't particularly care what the history books say - I'm always going to remember Vargas more fondly than I do somenody like B-Hop. I'll always think of Tommy Hearns more fondly than SRL, and I'll always think of Enander Holyfield more fondly than Lennox Lewis.
I like guys who come to FIGHT, not pose.
His skill, whenever he decided to use it, looked like an all-time-great, when he was fighting Tito! :oQuote:

Just not the last 2 fights.
Vargas was an outstanding fighter. But it was obvious from the beginning that he never had that mark of greatness that other fighters have.

Vargas fights well sometimes early. The problem is that he then usually gets tired later against good opponents and sits down on his little fat butt.
