Who have been the most skillful fighters over the years, I'm not necessarily talking about all round best boxers but fighters who have the most skill ie hand speed, unorthodox style, slick footwork and amazing combinations. I'm talking the likes of Ali obviously, Sugar Ray Leonard and I suppose Roy Jones.

Ray Leonard takes the cake. I remember Allen Green talking about Roy Jones and Ali lacking fundementals. Leonard had the whole package. Oscar has hella skill also.

Ali and Roy Jones weren't very skillful.
Duran is up there, Joe Louis and Joe Gans.
Shane Mosley had brilliant skill and hand speed at one point but those defeats by Vernon Forrest changed him permanently.
Prince Naseem has to get a passing mention I suppose even though Barerra humiliated him.
RJJ was a pussy through his peak - he never wanted to fight Collins, Calzaghe , Benn or Tarver.
i think as far as most skillfull fighters would have to be like sugar ray robinson,benard hopkins,james toney type fighters.fighters like ali ,ray lenard, roy jones ect...are great fighters mostly because of their blinding speed ect...,but fighters like bernard hopkins,usually reconize your flaws and exploit them.i think there is a difference between skill and special and abnormal talent.
For the last 15 years or so its Pernell, Ricardo Lopez, Toney, Hopkins, and PBF. Calderon's an up and comer
He never lived up to his full potential, but skill wise Donald Curry had it all.

Suprised Willie Pep or Benny Leonard have not been mentioned yet. Charley Burley was the best ever defensive fighter IMO...
Roy Jone's has/had the ghetto reflex. If you have the ghetto reflex, you only have to train half as much as regular boxers.

Why is it hard to understand the difference between skill and physical gift. RJJ had physical gifts but he was never overly skilled.
