Mayweather vs. Margarito
Everybody thinks Margarito is good because he is a Huge welterweight, but you know what, Floyd needs this big guys like Margarito to bring the best in him. Margarito can't beat him, but maybe he can land some good shots. Floyd knows how to prepare for a big guy like that. Floyd's speed will kill him just like it did Corrales. PBF kills big punchers like Emanuel Agustus, Corrales, N'Dou, Gatti!!
Margarito has never been overmatched and never had to take risks...especially in his last fight, the guy Manuel gomez had 10 losses on his record and it was obvious he didn't belong in the ring, so know Gomez has 11 losses. Cintron was just outclassed but then again Cintron has never fought anyone good, he just beat up people who he was expected to beat.
This will be a classic Lenoard vs. Hearns all over again, where the big guy gets chopped down. I can't even imgaine what these big welterweights go through just to make that 147lb limit....After Floyd embarrases Margarito, then Margarito should move up to 154 or 160 and stop beating up the little guys.

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
I'm all for this fight, it would give Mayweather the number 1 p4p
back IMO (IF he wins)
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
mayweather would win but it would not be an easy fight for him
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
This fight will not happen until Margarito becomes a high priced fighter. Mayweather wants to fight the best but also make big bucks at the same time. Especially if there is a possibility that he may lose the fight. The truth is that Magarito is a pretty good Light Middle weight but he is an exceptional Welterweight. With his size and strength he'll give Mayweather trouble.
Margarito would win.

WELL THATS MY OPINION. IF YOU GUYS CHOOSE TO SWING ON MAYWEATHERS N**S THEN GO RIGHT AHEAD! THAT IS WHAT I THINK. I DOUBT THAT FIGHT WOULD EVEN HAPPEN SO RELAX. JUST REMEMBER ME IF THIS FIGHT EVER HAPPENS.

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
Margarito is damn good, but I think Floyd is good enough to beat him. I'm not sure it would even be that close by the end of the fight. Floyd by UD...
Nevermind. let me go catch up on a few Margarito fights. I've only seen him fight a handfull of times and I wasn't overly impressed (definitely not to the point I see him beating Floyd). I could be wrong.
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
Margarito demonstrated against Cintron that he's matured into a clever boxer who can take his time. He's not just a big heavyhanded attacker who needs to brawl to have success. He'd be a very tough fight fight for Mayweather. I would make Floyd an 8/5 favorite. AM is bigger and stronger than Floyd and has a lot more power. It would be very close for 8 or 9 rounds.
Floyd would have little trouble with DLH or Mosley at 147... Margarito would also beat them easily...
Hatton is probably the guy Mayweather would most like to fight next... Hatton took a drubbing in his 1st go at 147, from a half-baked fighter. RH caught the cleaner and more effective punches and I scored him a 115-111 loser. Hatton has no jab, no stance, little balance, no sustainable attack, and not a lot of defensive mastery. Actually, I was expecting him to win through sheer aggression and a tough chin, but he proved to be a poor attacker as well. He's amateurish and was nearly stopped. But this Collazo character has no closing ability.

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
Hehehehehe. There are definitely some funny people on here. You got Mayweather beating up everyone in the world except Klitchko. Lets look at a few annoying truth's though. In his last few fights he has beaten Sharmba Mitchell in 6 rounds who was destroyed by Tszyu in 3. Beaten Gatti in 6 at 140 who was hammered in 5 by Oscar 5 yrs ago at 147. Fought someone called Bruseles, who's family don't even know who he is.Last but not least Judah who was knocked down twice by the same shot from Tszyu.
Now you got him beating up big strong welterweights like Margarito and Oscar. I think its great this blind adulation.
Let me also remind you of Mayweather Snr's interview when he said " I am not gonna train a guy to knock my own son out " not possibly knock him out, but knock him out. Mayweather lasts as long with the 5 weight champion, who has been hit by men like Tito, Vargas, Mosley and Quartey till Oscar feels like switching him off. I am not a DLH fan in particular, just a realist who knows that a good big un will always beat a good little un, and make no bones about it the Golden Boy is still good.

CC guys, welcome the best forum on the net and glas there are more Margarito fans that see his potential. You'll realise that adding you 2 and the other 3,we're starting to form quite a team! You should post allll these valid points in the main page when a Margarito/Floyd thread appears.

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
it would be a good fight and then maybe the hatton/ mayweather fight would happen.
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
mayweather would destroy margarito, just like he did to corrales....brick by brick! ;D
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
Mayweather does Margarito the same way he did Corrales.
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
I think so too. I actually wanna see him get by Margarito for a Hatton fight, but it'd be nice to see Floyd get hit with a few clean hard shots so we can see how he responds.
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
It would be interesting if Floyd can dance rings around Margarito the whole night. Tony is a monster. If he gets Floyd hurt and cornered its not gonna be a pretty night for the Pretty Boy.
I still think that Floyd gets past Margarito if he can, erm, keep his head.

margarito is not good enough in my opinion to face floyd yet. has he beaten anyone that were decent and could get him a shot. i dont think so. he dont deserve it just now. maybe later in his career when he has proved himslef

You say that bro but he has been unbeaten at this weight for most of his career and has been ducked by the champs like Judah,Mayorga, and now Baldo. He has fought good fighter slike Diaz,Martinez,Gomez who hadnt lost for YEARS,Cintron who is about to become IBF champ 6 heads, these are all decent names and as good as anyone Judah,Corley,Mitchell etc have faced yet they get a shot at Floyd. See where I'm coming from.?
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
Everyone seems to be ducking Margarito, because he is a high risk. He wouldn't be as big as a draw as many other opponents. I on the other hand would love to see this fight. I am split 50/50.
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
I have changed my mind completely,I don't think PBF will ever fight Tony and I will say he is ducking if he does not fight Tony after the Oscar fight..why you ask? Before,I thought he wanted Tony to fight more names but I just saw in an interview on boxingtalk.com that Floyd says even if he beats Williams, who cares?!?! What the Fuck!!!! He is ducking,I'm sure of it especially as Williams is just as dangerous as anyone Floyd has fought for years!!!

mayweather by decision. too fast and too skilled for margarito

Actually ya. I had 50/50 but I would have to say 80/20 Floyd. I think that 20% is why Floyd won't take the fight. He wants to be 90/10 or 100/0.

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
Mayweather doesnt seem to want to fight Margarito but its doubtful that is because he as Margarito put it, "fears him". From what I've seen Antonio Margarito likes to come straight forward and maul his opponent with big punches that often you can see him set for. I havent seen a lot of Margarito, just what I've seen of him on Youtube, but I did notice things like that. If he continually sets himself to wing those big bombs and explosive powerful combinations that he is known for, Mayweather will see it and beat him to the punch, jabbing him to death or moving away and counterattacking. I believe a fighter with speed will beat a fighter with power if the other factors are relatively equal. The combined speed and skill of Floyd Mayweather Jr would easily allow him to beat Margarito to the punch as he came in seeking to get set and unload with his power shots. On the flip side, if he tries to box the greatest pound for pound boxer in the sport today, Margarito would likely open up a whole other can of worms that he didnt need to. I cant see Tony winning this fight, but who knows? With his power, Floyd could not afford to make even one error. This is one of the bouts i really want to see.

The thing is,the most iporatant aspect of your rationale is you really want to see the fight. This isnt' another one of those Floyd fights where you know he is DEFINITELY going to win. Also what happened to Floyd getting $10 mill for Baldo as opposed to the $8mill PLUS he was offered to fight Tony? In reality,he only got $8mill for fighting Baldo,so again, another inidcator,of his for whatever reason not wanting to fight Margarito. Also, remember,Margarito can bang to the body(which no one does against Floyd)can jab well and is bigger than anyone Floyd has fought. He is relenetless and although Floyd will counter him alot,Tony will have SOME success due to his style. He is a pure pressure fighter, much like Castillo who "beat" Floyd the first time. Tony is also good at cutting off the ring. I tell you bro,Margarito would give PBF hell and he knows it.

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
I wanted Floyd to fight Antonio also since it would have been a tougher fight than Baldomir, but honestly Floyd is fighting Oscar. That is a better fight for FLoyd and more money and if he wins he gets alot of credit. And he will beat Oscar. Oscar cannot deal with the speed of Floyd. Oscar has to use his size advantage and jab... and try and catch Floyd when FLoyd comes in, but Floyd does not really walk in carelessly. Might be a very boring fight.. The only thing which I think could happen is Floyd testing Oscar's chin and I am not too sure Oscar can take alot. But for Antonio, saying Floyd is ducking him now is a waste of time. He should move on .FLoyd is moving on to bigger and better. Alot of guys do that, they focus on a fight who is a big name and want to only fight him. Bobby Czyz wanted to fight Hearns for years saying he could beat him. Little did Bobby know that Tommy beat Andries who beat Czyz.. Tommy beat Hill who beat Czyz.. Bobby blew his chance to be at Tommy's level. and Antonio might blow his chance to be a Floyds.

Get ready for Margarito to dump his belt so he doesn't have to fight Paul Williams. He doesn't want to lose out on that payday in a matchup with Cotto even though Miguel is going to throttle him.

whoa gamo!
i dont think i ever heard anybody say that pbf was getting ten mil from the fight
in fact, it was ME who broke the news on this forum that mayweather was getting $8,000,001 for fighting margarito
if youre the #1 contender (mayweather at the time) do you fight the #2 contender for 8 mil, or do you fight the universally recognized welterweight champ for 8 mil?

Nope, you're mistaken,I myself posted that PBF was supposedly getting $10mill for fighting Baldo and I heard it twice, once from Goossen and once in an interview but then after the fight, the figure was $8million and as for the Tony fight,he was guaranteed $8mill plus a cut of the PPV sales. Well, beating the universally recognised W champ at the time does not look so great if you're just looking for the biggest but easiest payday and have no intention of defending the title.

Indeed, you are correct, Clottey hit him at will for....4rounds...Margarito(who was rusty, injured hence the arm punches) wore out the rugged Clottey after that with his assualt on the body and I don't if you saw,but Floyd didn't exactly look amazing against Baldo did he? Now I'm not one to by 1 performance and I know Floyd is better than that, just as I know Margarito is better than he was against Joshua...
I myself believed Mayweather would massacre Baldo but I was totally wrong and also, Clottey and Floyd do not fight alike. If anything,it showed Tony,as ppor as he looked, could come through the best you have and outwork you.

okay, maybe it was you who posted the first fictional article about the purse of that fight, but it was me who posted the interview with leonard ellerbe saying mayweather is getting 8,000,001 for the fight ;)

Lonely on the Tony bandwagon? With Doug Fischer,Steve Kim,Ray Mancini,Gill Clancy all respecting Margarito and saying he 's a the major threat to any WW on the planet,I wouldn't think that was being lonely. And on this site, there's plenty of Tony fans ;)

Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
The problem for Margarito is that his biggest flaw fits right into Mayweather's biggest strength.
Margarito is slow and that lack of speed makes him incredibly easy to hit. And Mayweather is the fastest fighter on the planet. Bad combination.

True,he is slow but who was the fighter that gave Floyd the most problems? One of the ones with pretty slow handspeed in JLC. Margarito cuts the ring off well, has an ok jab, throws punches in bunches and can murder someone to the body(see the fight with Santos,he HAMMERED that 170 plus pound guy to the body and ROPPED him in round 3 or 4 but it was not called!!!!!).
His chin is strong enough to take Floyd's best and Margarito is awesome when he gets a fighter to the ropes,I mean he works head and body brilliantly(see the Cintron,Lujan,6 heads etc fights) and Floyd does like to go to the ropes. Margarito can also mix it up well on the inside, and for once,he looping right hand could be a very very good thing because both Jesus Chavez and Corley landed on Floyd with looping rights.Corley actually buzzed him with that punch.
I'm not saying Tony would win but his style would give Floyd troubles he has not faced before. Tony will get hit but I also believe his non stop punching and stamina will give him moments in the fight too and although he's not a massive puncher,he certainly has good power in both hands. He would work Floyd to the body better than anyone else too. It would be a great fight.
-
Re: Mayweather vs. Margarito
This would not be a good fight for Margarito, PBF has to many advantages over AM.
It would be a boxing lesson and i doubt Margarito would win a round!
