Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
It was clear that Manny Stewart was rooting against DLH. Then he won and he was like that was a perfect perfomance. Merchant for once called it like it was. Oscar showed NO rust and looked amazing IMO. ODLH is an all time great. Personally, I think he should retire on top. Hopefully all the doubters will realize that money has not changed Oscar in the ring.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
By "on top" do you mean now, after defeating Mayorga?
If so, I wouldn't agree that this is actually the kind of fight that demonstrates that he is on top. It was a fine fight to make, and a good demonstration of Oscar's skills - but wouldn't retirement after a beat-down of PBF be a better version of "on top" than a defeat of wild-man Mayorga?
Oh yes it would!
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
I just am not sure if PBF could motivate him as much as Mayorga. By on top i mean he beat an OK fighter, but the way that he beat him was more immpresive than anyone else that beat Mayorga even Tito.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
A fight with the man everyone sees as the P4P king would certainly motivate ODLH. And a win would be the perfect way to go out. Perfect.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
PBF is clearly the best fighter the world has to offer, there is no bigger motivation than knowing the boxing world is watching you and you have to put up or shut up....
oscar's aware of the immensity of a mayweather bout....
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
You may be right. I think that Oscar would probably outbox PBF. He is bigger and has fought the better opposition at the higher weights. An Oscar win would be huge for his legacy. But his legacy is already written imo
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
I think that after last night I can say that Oscar's defense is highly underrated. But let's be serious, if he chooses to box with PBF, he's gonna lose. If Oscar takes that fight, he better realize that he's got the power and try to knock PBF out. I don't think anybody minus Winky Wright can outbox PBF.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
I thought the way Oscar disposed of Mayorga was very impressive. Well done to the golden boy, i always predicted you to do it.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
Of course DLH is going to have another fight. No disrespect to Mayorga but an 8 time world champ at 6 different weights was never going to come out of a 2 year retirement just to fight him!
DLH wants to go out with a legacy defining bang and seeing as PBF is his biggest rival in the legacy stakes, (4 weight world champ and counting) it's only natural that the two should have to meet.
It's kind of like when Obi Wan fought Darth Vadar, but this time I don't think Oscar is going to let Floyd kill him and melt into the floor :P
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
WOW...I saw the Trinidad domination of Mayorga but I never expected THAT!!!
I would love to see ODH fight these guys: PBF, Hatton, Mosley III, Margarito
I would like to see Mayorga fight: Vargas, Ouma, JUDAH, Margarito
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
I would like to have seen all those fights if ODLH was in his prime but the truth is that he probably only has time for one and everything (the money respect and appeal) goes towards Mayweather. I think that chances are PBF comes out on top even with both at their prime i just don't believe that ODLH would ever have been able to keep up with him. The only way I see ODLH winning is if he were to be conservative with his punches and point out PBF which sounds impossible but i saw flaws when PBF fought Corrales and if Oscar were to watch how PBf moves on the ropes he would be able to have a plan. I would set the odds at 4 to 1 though PBf is fast and punches graze him not land. I would like to see ODLH win but i would bet on PBF. If ODLH takes this fight and its as spectacular as we all expect it to be then the fight alone would be the fight to end on. ODLH doesn't need to prove anything and if he quit now or in ten years he is a great the man never ducked an opponent and gave it his whole heart everytime. I just hope its not the last fighter we see with this much heart honor and skill.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
Oscar should go for the winner of Wright-Taylor. Floyd should beat Tony, then see whats out there. Mayorga should retire.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
Actually Manny Stewart was the most right. He pointed out things that Lampley ignored ;) And always ignored ;D

at the same time it could be a lose lose for ODLH....if he loses, it will be because he's older and has diminished skills, if he wins, he faught a smaller guy coming up in weight and had never been tested at the level....I still think ODLH wins by KO in this if it happens...how dare PBF SR. say he's not going to train ODLH if he fights his son?!?!?! He is in the fight game right? If he cared so much why isn't he in his son's corner then.....Has there never been a coach that had to coach against his/her son/daughter? it happens in sports....be glad his son is getting this once and a life time shot....do it...it is the best fight to be made out there for the public.....maybe not the best for boxing...but for the fans I say "YES"
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
I didn't see the fight when it happened, but thanks to some guys on boxing forums I saw the whole fight on youtube. I must say that Oscar's performance was worthy of a great champion and a seasoned veteran fighter who doesn't waste energy or punches, just gets the job done with superior technique, excellent defence, good speed and power. The names that came to my mind after watching that performance were Joe Louis and Alexis Arguello. I would not have included Oscar in such company before this fight but now I will.

I agree to a certain extent. Oscar showed exactly what you said, and that he still has the determination to train hard. But beating Mayorga {who has only fought 2 times in 2 years, and was destroyed in one of them}, is not enough to bow down. Oscar coming back after a long lay-off was impressive, especially in the shape he is in. But, he could always beat Mayorga. Winning that fight shows he is still a class fighter, but not the second coming of what he was. Impressive, but not convincing by far.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
Before this fight i thought PBF would pick ODLH to pieces. Now im not so sure, i still back PBF to win but it'll be a good fight im sure of that.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
PBF is a lot quicker than Mayorga...it's a deceptive win just like Trinidad's!
I would like to see a ODH-Tito rematch
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
My afterthoughts on De La Hoya...
Right now I couldn't be higher if you shoved a butt plug up my rear & strung it to a giant kite!
The performance IWO was amazing. I'm amused that there are certain members here that continue to cry & nit pick the fight & the opponent when they were previously stating that Oscar was going to show up shat or Mayorga was going to be too much for him or whatever...then that backfires & they hunt something else to cry about.
I just don't get it. Who gives a flying shat what the announcers said or how they said it...Oscar did everything right & he put up a fight takin it out of an announcers hands or judges hands & the fight was fantastic.
I havent had that much fun watching a fight in a long long time.
I'm proud of Oscar & he did a whole lot more than even I thought possible.
As far as the future...he should fight Wright because Wright beat Tito & Mosley & if he could be Wright if Wright beats Taylor...Oscar goes down as a true Golden Boy.
Fight Wright like you fought Mayorga this past Saturday night...hell...fight anyone like you fought Mayorga this past Saturday night & they got hellish issues.
Great fight...nothing to cry about.

Agreed...but Oscar seemed to have his drive & his stamina back after that second round.
Oscar has plenty left in him IWO.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
Hell yeah he has a lot left. I would love for him to fight Floyd, because as quick is PBF is he's gonna get caught. Wright is a bad style match up for Oscar, he's too much like Sturm.
Floyd should focus on Margarito...he'd be A LOT EASIER to fight than Oscar.
Re: Afterthoughts on ODLH- Mayorga
Oscar should fight the winner of Wright-Taylor, unless Taylor wins, only because Taylor is too big. Fighting Floyd won't prove much. Oscar has a legit chance, but Floyd will win a UD, 8 of 10 times. Oscar-Floyd would be a good fight, but it would derail the system. Wright is on his way out, so is Oscar. Oscar fighting Tony would further set up, a match between the winner and Floyd, but who will Floyd fight. Not the winner of Gatti-Baldomir. Hopefully, Oscar will fight Wright, or Tito. Or maybe even the winner of Mosely-Vargas 2. Oscar fits in the mix at 147, but I doubt he can stay there more than one fight. Oscar, please let the welters unify, and then maybe fight the winner. Oscar can't win against Floyd, and it probably won't happen anyway. Oscar is the man{because of money}, and can sway what happens. He told Lil Floyd to wait, and that Tony didn't deserve a fight, now, Oscar says, I won't fight Floyd, but I'll fight Tony. He shouldn't have that much control. If he fights Tony, and wins, cool. But, i'm just tired of the Don King thing. Now, it's almost to the point where Don can't always get his way, but he has a new friend in Oscar, who has just as much power.

Oscar is too small at that weight
Bhop was too big and strong for him
stay where he is and go for Hatton, PBF and Cotto
why not go out with a bang and cement his legacy
