Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
Gotta admit it. Oscar's performance impressed me last night. I was hoping for a Mayorga KO, but it wasn't to be. I predicted an Oscar win by UD, by the way.
But before we start nominating Oscar for President, let's keep some perspective. I think it's pretty funny how boxing fans see things the way they WANT to see them. When Tito beat Mayorga, it's because:
1. Mayorga fought a stupid fight.
2. Mayorga is not a true 160-pounder.
3. Tito got lucky.
4. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
But now Oscar beats Mayorga, and he's the best fighter in the history of boxing. Stop the presses!! Oscar for sainthood!!
Well, I hate to piss the De la Hoya fans off (again), but.....
Does anyone else see a pattern here? Tito destroys a fighter.... Oscar comes by later and cleans up the scraps. Happened with Vargas, happened with Campas, happened with Mayorga. Oh, I forgot.... Tito KO'd Vargas in 12, but DLH did it in 11. Tito KO'd Mayorga in 8, but DLH did it in 6. That means Oscar must be better, huh?
You know what? Forget about PBF being Oscar's next opponent. I've got a better candidate. How about......... Joppy?!? Or Oba Carr? How about David Reid?
Hey, I know Oscar's fans won't like this, but Oscar can beat PFB and ride off into the sunset on his white horse. But there's one thing he'll never get off his record and will never get payback for:
His loss to Tito in the biggest fight of his life, not in Puerto Rico where he could blame partisan judges, but in Las Vegas, close to his own backyard and in front of thousand of screaming, adoring fans. That thorn will always be sticking into his side. (Heh, heh).

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
But anyone who saw the fight saw Tito get school in boxing. Oscar is and alsway will be better.

That's not what the judges saw. The judges saw someone who was winning the fight, got tagged good, and decided to run for his life in the last rounds. DLH threw the fight away, whether that makes you feel good or not.
;)

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
Then I hope they do it again, and see how many times Tito can retire and come back I think he is going for a record.

This time though, I'd like to see Oscar stand toe-to-toe with Tito like he did with Mayorga. Not run like a bitch-slapped hooker.

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
well oscar and tito are now currently neighbors and live in the same neighborhood in PR. so maybe they can choreograph a better more convincing thrown fight in their backyards. :lickish:

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
lets ask Mayorga who hits harder. he dropped his hands for Tito and didnt budge. and he got dropped by Oscar.Again Oscar is not stupid he wont stand toe to toe with anyone who he can clearly outbox. I hope this happens, but i doubt it, and if tito does come back who is he gonna pick to fight this time. who is a smaller guy out there that cant fight and is stupid.

Tito: 42-2-0
DLH: 38-4-0 (including a loss to one Felix "Tito" Trinidad)
I know this hurts, but accept it, and move on.....

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
Tha is exactly why I do hope it happens again so we can see Tito get schooled again and sent into retirement again, maybe the third i sthe Charm.

Better yet, let's let Oscar stay like that and be forever bothered by that "chink" in his legacy armour.

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
Oscar beat Tito, anyone who knows boxing knows that.. He decisevely won 8 rounds and outlanded him by over 100 punches.. DLH has also never been completely embaressed and outclassed the way Tito has in his 2 defeats.. So I disagree. I don't think this win does a whole lot for Oscar and I see your point about him feasting on Trinidads opponents, but DLH is still the better fighter by a stride I think.

Hey, at least you add "I think." It's more than most people do. You know, I've read tons of posts on this forum about how Tito was so embarrassed by Hopkins. Personally, I think Tito's showing against Hopkins wasn't as disgraceful's as Oscar's. But again, that's only my opinion. Yes, Tito was outclassed. Losing to one of the greatest 160-pounders in history is no shame in itself. Don't forget that this was Tito's 2nd fight at 160. His first one was a thorough beating of Joppy, someone everyone thought was great until Tito destroyed him. Then he was just a bum. Typical of Tito haters. I WILL cave on the Wright fight. I don't know what the hell was wrong with Tito that night. I was thoroughly disgusted with his showing, and I'm sad that was his last fight. Again, boxing fans, being the fickle group they are, only remember you for your last fight. They quickly forget how storied a career has been.
But having said all that, I commend you for expressing your points of view without sounding like some of the idiots on this board.

Trinidad never took rematches against fighter who beat him, didn't even pursue it. He is willing to come out of retirement go down to 154 or catch weight for peanuts, to beat a fighter he dominated but won't fight oscar for millions and to exonerate his biggest win from controversy. At least oscar rematched mosley whether u believe he won or lost and also has been calling out trinidad for years. whenever tito loses and is humiliated in a fight he wants no part of that fighter. Objective minds know Oscar won the trinidad fight only eggheads will say Tito won.
by the way Oscar has already fought oba carr, and ppl recognize oscar as a better fighter than tito, not because oscar fought tito's leftovers but because he dominated and embarrased tito, because isn't one-dimensional like tito, and because he never got a one-sided beating like tito (also not once but twice)

I was wondering when you were going to crawl out from under the rock you usually hide under and start spewing your anti-Tito bullsh*t. You've proven time and again to be a serious Oscar "nut hugger." Which is why nothing you say I take seriously. I've sparred with you over Tito-DLH in the past and have no wish to do so again. You want to talk about humiliation? How about Oscar banging the canvas in mock anger (it was actually relief) after a glancing liver shot by Hopkins? At least Tito fought through until the end, TKO'd by the bigger man. And don't forget, Tito has a LEGITIMATE victory at 160 on his record, his KO of Joppy. Not a gift-wrapped present from the judges like Oscar got over Sturm.
Face some facts, dude:
1. The record shows a VICTORY of Tito over Oscar. And it was in Las Vegas, Oscar's backyard. I guess the judges didn't take too kindly to Oscar's running like the bitch from hell. To Oscar's ever-lasting dissapointment, he'll have that memory the rest of his life.
2. Oscar, unlike Tito, has ALWAYS hand-picked his opponents. He fought an over-the-hill Chavez. He fought a shot Vargas. He fought a shot Mayorga.
3. Oscar, unlike Tito, cherishes his Golden Boy image much too much. Tito just enjoyed fighting. Love him or hate him, he always came to fight whoever they put in front of him. Oscar is all about legacy. Tito was all about the sheer joy of fighting.
So get off my case chami-boy.

Don't let your love of P.R. cloud your judgement...Oscar beat Mayorga...& he beat Tito...& if Tito steps up again...he'll get beaten...AGAIN. ;D

Mayorga didn't come in to fight against Tito?!?!? C'mon Wacko... say it isn't so. Not you too!! Damn, it's getting tiring to have to defend Tito from all the unfair and incorrect stuff some people want to pass off as truth. Hey, maybe Tito will come back and fight Oscar and maybe not. And who the hell knows for sure what will happen? But one thing's for sure. The judges in Las Vegas that night, in Oscar's backyard, on HBO, the network so in love with the Golden Boy, for some reason decided that Oscar had thrown away the fight. And THAT'S HOW THEY SCORED IT. Case closed. If they fight again, we'll see what happens. Until then, it exists as a W for Tito and a L for Oscar in the record books.

you have a child like attitude so let me educate you what humiliation is
it is not humiliation if you get caught in boxing by a shot. it is humiliation if you get beat for round after round and you take the beating and cannot adapt. that is humiliation my delusional friend. I will be the first to say oscar didn't belong in 160 pounds and his win over sturm is very questionable. but you my friend are contradicting yourself. you ask me to face the fact about the controversial outcome, that trinidad has a W over oscar on his record, and then you speculate on how oscar got a gift decision over sturm. so if you are going to ask me to face the facts about the trinidad win then I will be entitled to ask you to face the facts about the sturm win.
Also this is prizefighting not streetfighting where fighters fight just for the joy, in boxing every fight is going to be a part of history. every real fighter is always concerned about their legacy but I guess since it never crossed tito's mind coz he never to rematches to redeem himself, the same rule applies to his fans as well.
Oscar fought whoever was availabel to him at 140pounds chavez was the best opponent for him at the time. at 147 whitaker was the best opponent available to him, then it was quartey, then it was trinidad and when he moved up to jr middlewight it was vargasand at middleweight it was hopkins. Somehow I fail to understand how this a resume of a fighter who picks easy opponents to beat.
for the record I am not being ignorant, start making some sense in your post and I will be off your case

I don't want to start an Oscar vs Tito thread
it was you who brought trinidad into the picture. this is oscar's moment but somehow u had to sneak tito into the picture to malign oscar in his hour of glory.

Enough said. Heaven knows I don't want to get into another Tito vs Oscar thread either. The difference between me and you, however, is that I'm open-minded enough to give De la Hoya some credit. You, on the other hand, do nothing but trash Trinidad mercilessly, like he owes you money. AND, you also do a pretty good job of hurling insults at people who do not agree with you. So no, I'm not your "delusional friend", or any other kind of friend, for that matter. Just someone who will not be bullied into submission by your insults. Is that ok with you?

According to 3 judges in Vegas and all Puerto Ricans, Trinidad won. According to the rest of the world Oscar won. See the fight again at least 5 more times, can you TRULY convince yourself Trinidad won? The best he should have gotten was a DRAW and even that would be considered generous. It was actually very entertaining seeing how Oscar was playing with him with just jabs...at the start of the fight Trinidad had white trunks, by the middle rounds it was all RED. Alcazar is a MORON for telling Oscar to not fight the last 3 rounds!
About Trinidad and Mayorga...Mayorga was hitting Tito hard the first 2 mins into round 1 until he stuck out his chin and acted stupid. Oscar didn't get hit at all against Mayorga...why? Well you can come up with excuses but the truth is that Oscar has DEFENSE. Tito will never have the boxing skills/defense Oscar has. He will punch harder but that's about it. It's not that Tito was not " Tito " against Winky, it's just that Winky is a wiz at defense. It doesn't matter how hard you hit if you can't hit the opponent. If Oscar were to fight winky, he would also lose but he would make it a closer fight. Truth is they should be fighting at 147 or 154...NOT 160, they both suck at 160.

1. No, not all Puerto Ricans thought Trinidad won.
2. Oscar didn't run away from Trinidad in the last few rounds just because Alcazar told him too. Tasting a good shot from Trinidad and not wanting to get KTFO probably had something to do with it also.
3. Yes, Oscar has better defense than Tito (you heard right). And yes, Oscar is the better boxer (you heard right again). But Tito is the better FIGHTER. Hence, his impressive record which not even De la Hoya can match. Fight by fight, opponent by opponent, Tito has fought and beaten far more impressive fighters than Oscar, hands down.
So yes, you make very good points. I, however, stand by my opinion.

Evaluating Oscar and Tito
Defense: Oscar Power: Tito
Boxing ability: Oscar
Ring generalship: Oscar
Handspeed: Oscar
Footspeed: Oscar
Chin: Oscar
How on earth is Tito a better overall fighter than Oscar. Between the two he is the better puncher thats about it.

that is an intangible which is based on speculation, it cannot be seen therefore one is entitled to their opinion for that. It is a very subjective debate but if you are basing that on his running in the trinidad fight and the so called dive in the hopkins fight than you have every right to say that tito has more heart than oscar.

But having said all that, I commend you for expressing your points of view without sounding like some of the idiots on this board.
dude, tito got his ass kicked by Hopkins.....ODLH was hanging in there until that body shot....no comparison....and the wright fight?!?! are you kidding me....he made tito look like and old man/amateur...don't forget ODLH also faught in 6 more title fights (29-23) than tito in 2 fewer boxing matches (44-42)..De La Hoya has never suffered a beating worthy of retirement like tito has either....

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
After all the BS you've been spewing out about tito you've finally said something that made sense....Oscar De La Hoya threw away the fight by being to cautious in the last few round...Tito never beat ODLH...ODLH beat himself...and you said it....funny how that works...you ride tito's jock only to say ODLH lost the fight by running "like a bitch" is that how you put it? It's tito that has ducked ODLH since that fight....He knows ODLH beat him...and you do too....

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
Oscar had the Tito fight won. He gave it away. I'm a huge Tito fan. Oscar should have beat him then, but lets not overhype Oscar because he beat Mayorga. Oscar is older and only looked as good because Mayorga is stationary with limited boxing skills. Tito and Oscar are both older, both have chins, both can hit. Oscar can still outbox Tito, but don't have the mobility he used to. This fight will answer if Oscar can handle Tito's power. I still say Oscar is clearly the better boxer, but last time he tasted Tito's power, he ran. Oscar don't have the "D" that Winky or BHOP does. Tito hits sharper, and more accurate, and counters alot better than Mayorga. I'm not saying that Oscar would lose, but if he thinks he can walk through Tito, he will get KOd. Oscar could win an easy UD, but if he wants revenge, and is willing to step into the fire, Oscar will get hurt.

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
At least trinidad had the guts to fight Wright. Someone Delahoya avoided like the plague. And after the fight with Sturm you can see why ;)

He beat Tito... thats all that matters Judges should be going round by round... it doesn't matter if he takes even 4 rounds off if he wins the first 8... and I would expect him to believe that, and hope he knows he won that fight just he knows didn't beat Whitaker or Sturm.

Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
Sturm was close, but Pernell won. Oscar beat Mosely though in their 2nd.
-
Re: Congratulations to Oscar. Now let's keep things in PERSPECTIVE!!!!!
I thought Mosley won. As it was a case of Oscar throwing a lot of shots and missing and Mosley would dodge those shots so close you thought they landed thanks to Lampley screaming! It was a poetry in motion fight and it was a hard fight to score and a harder fight to follow. It's like a close fight that goes either way. Watching that fight with and without sound you see it differently each time

Agreed. But I record every fight I watch, and watch it three times. Once with the sound off, once focusing on 1 fighter, then again focusing on the other fighter. After that, my view is set. The second fight wasn't as close as the first, and I had Oscar winning 7. The first fight, I had it 6 to 6, with Mosely getting the close nod for finishing stronger. Both fights could have been draws, and I wouldn't have complained.
