How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Every good fighter analyzes... His opponents, himself, everything. Obviously theres a massive amount of diverse information and opinions on this forum, and if one were to continually pay attention to the things that are mentioned on this site - how much better off would you be professionally speaking? Could it be a huge advantage? Slight advantage? Or would listening to drunken bastards like Wacko get ya killed inside the ring!
Is there nothing you can say on here that a professional won't know himself, or that a trainer can't point out?
On a scale of 1 to 10 how much does this forum aid a pro boxer?
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Some fighters have flaws that they don't notice because they are so used to their boxing style.
So we can see it from a different perspective. And if a boxer knew his flaws, they wouldn't be knocked out :)

Look up posts by greynotsoold. He is so intelligent when it comes to training and strategy. I have brought a lot of what he had shared with the forum into my own fight game.
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
I think the only way you can really improve is with a good trainer who knows how you fight, your strenths and your weeknesses.
And a load of hard graft.
Saying that you may be able to pick up a few tips hear and there on this site regards diffrent training methods but its up to you to find what suits you.
Be warned though, some on this site dont know the difference between a left hook and a fishing hook and apart from watching it on tv have had fuck all to do with boxing.

Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Fixed minds or fixed attitudes are what makes for average fighters.
So to expand your horizons you have to do so in your mind first before it becomes manifested into your physical life.
Champions are thinkers ,belivers,do 'ers in that order over and over like a circle between the three evolving into their own creation.
The others are belivers,do'ers.
One is shown what to know, and does it like a soldier.
The other is shown the ways but researches his own paths and those that cross his.
Your really blessed if you get either of the above with a big heart though, you cant learn that.

I always enjoy reading the fathomless wisdom in Andre's posts.
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Dunno if this is an old revived thread or not, but I'll throw in my opinion.
The forum is as useful as anything else.
A student can have all the books, the tuition and encouragement he wants, but it won't make him learn.
In boxing a fighter can have the best trainer, the best equipment and the best forum of opinions but it may be very little help if he doesn't use them correctly.
This forum can be highly beneficial in learning training methods, techniques, nutrition and even self management but only if you ask the right questions and select the correct answers.
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Well I guess it depends on what expectations you have from this section of the forum. If you are looking to get your training advice from here alone you will be in strife obviously. If you have asked your trainer a question or he/she has told you to do something and you are unsure of it, this is a good place to post a question about it because you can filter the drunken idiots from the genuine responses from your own knowledge and experience and will probably get some good advice.
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Several of us have been to several gyms, many have similar exercises, but why do we favour one over another? Some trainers are more progressive and like to keep informed with up to date science others keep it old school. There will be good fighters coming out of both camps.
And for all the talk in the world if you don't put the time in at the gym you're going nowhere.
To sum up.
Not every method applies to every person in every situation. That's where I think the forum comes in.
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
Yes. I've read many tips and tricks throughout this forum in my time lurking here. I'd like to say that the trainers here (or mods) on here are worth their weight and are quite full of knowledge. They're like a super team, each have their own special way of teaching and different perspectives/insight. Just take the time to really read what they say and it'll open your mind up, including in the ring.
the posters here'll school ya too. lol.
btw mods, you guys need start some more guides and tutorials on some nifty subjects. Like maybe one on how to defend yourself on the ropes or maybe one like how to punch from the boxing clinch. lol.
now im off to go browse 'What works for you in fighting/sparring?" :P
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
It may have slowed up a little recently in regards to question and answer regarding a lot of the more in depth techniques and tactics, but if you search back even a year or 2, there are a tonne of valuable threads that have great stuff.
Nothing substitutes a good trainer if you're thinking of turning pro, or already fighting pro,,,, but if you can see any holes in your game or tips on fighting against certain style opponents, there is enough knowledgable people to give you a lot of food for thought.
Re: How helpful is this forum to a man who is trying to box professionally..
A lot of people would be surprised who actualy gets on here, some very well known fighters ;D.
