Should Ricky Hatton Become a Full Time Sparring Partner?

Being that Hatton last night was exposed as a fighter who will lose if not given a hometown advantage of 20,000 fans and a hometown ref who lets him get away anything, does anyone else think it would be better for him to stop fighting professionally and become a full time sparring partner? I think this would benefit Ricky tremendously, as some of the highest paid sparring partners in the world can make 6 figures a year. Since it is now evident that Hatton would get destroyed by Mayweather, Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, Baldomir, Mosley, and yes, even Judah, and since he has expressed the desire to not stay in boxing too much longer, I think it's a good idea. Not only that but, and I say this seriously, if Hatton dedicates himself 100%, I think he could be the Roberto Duran of sparring partners.

Watch the fight properly, I bet you didn't even watch it. 115-112 and its easy to score. I hope you enjoy watching hatton over the next 3 years, if you love to hate him so much at least its gonna want to make you tune in and you get your money's worth, he's doing his job well if your tuning in.

Yeah, and you think Corrales, Castillo and Judah would beat Hatton, you can make a case for the other guys you mentioned, but clearly you didn't watch the fight last night. I think Ricky can beat all those names.

LOL yeah right. Punch stats tell the tale, 259 landed by hatton, 254 of them power shot, compared with 213 by collazo, 167 of them power shots. 40% landed by rick, most of them you couldn't see cos your blinded by prejudice!

I'm sick of the Hatton protected in his hometown argument, as far as I am aware he fought in the States last night???

Mayweather - 36 fights - 36 fights in the USA
Gatti - 47 fights - 44 in the USA (most in his hometown of Atlantic City) 1 in Canada (place of birth) and 2 in Holland
Shane Mosley - 46 fights - 46 fights in the USA

The mexican/south americans will fight anywhere regardless as will Ricky Hatton.

I think it's about time the facts got straight.

Although I would love for Hatton to fight in NYC at The Garden, or Vegas, Atlantic City etc why shouldn't he as a two weight (undisputed at light welter even though he gave up the titles, and now WBA welter champ) champ allowed to say 'you want my belts? you come here'.

I would bet my house that Floyd, Gatti, Judah Mosley etc would not even get out of bed to cross the Atlantic 'out of their comfort zones'.

The only boy brave enough to do so of late was Jeff Lacy. And he was sent back with a face that look like it had been beaten with a bag of spanners.

Well the US heavyweights will have to go overseas now.

Lacy had the balls to go overseas, eventhough he got beat he tried his best and fought the best.

Fact is who were Mosley, ODH, Floyd, etc supposed to fight overseas??? I mean the europeans in those weight classes weren't exactly the best.

That being said Hatton won the fight, Collazo upped his checking account by fighting very well vs a pretty good fighter.

I think the point I was trying to make was that Ricky has now come out to the States to fight a tricky fighter (and it was accepted before the fight he was a relative unknown quantity, slick southpaw etc) and still people get on board the 'Hatton only fights in his home town' bus, even though it is likely his remaining career will be fought out in the states, as per the first post.

Actually most of them I couldn't see because they were thrown during a clinch, and had no effect whatsoever on the fight. You think Hatton won 115-112 then you are nuts. I watched the fight again today and had it a draw going by rounds, but I clearly felt Collazo deserved the win in last night and even still if you look at overall fight, Hatton lost.. He was rocked so badly in the 12th it would have taken 1 more follow up by Collazo and he could have gone down. The KD in the first round was completely irrelevant to the outcome..Hatton was very lucky to get the nod, and the punchstats don't mean alot at all.

NO way did Hatton win 115-112.. I had it one round for Collazo, but I could easily see them giving Hatto nthe decision as well.

This fight was against a guy he didnt take serious and if they have a rematch Hatton will Destroy him.

Its ok though, i hope now that mayweather takes the fight against him because its gon be the first and last mistake he makes...I cant wait for PBF to think he can win now and try to fight Hatton.

It's the guy's first big fight in the US, a fight that will potentially lead to fights Ricky 'supposedly' wants, a fight that is supposed to build his US fan base, and he doesn't take it seriously? PBF is YET to fight a guy that is a REAL 147 and he WONT do that because he knows what will happen.

One bad fight, Hell no man. He didn't beat all the other guys by being over-hyped. The guy just had a bad style for him. But Ricky showed heart, determination and resolve to hang in there and get the nod.

Southpaws are tough to fight...I don't usually have trouble with them in sparring, I know the straight is usually their money punch but anyways the pros are another level.

I think the southpaw thing plus being tall and rangey is what threw Ricky off. It was a tough fight vs a tough style and he still pulled it off, but he's got some major work to do

so when mayweather gets KTFO by judah will you reqire his becomming a full time sparring partner mr imripped?

No.

Should Ricky Hatton go back to 140lbs?

Yes.

Anyone that has seen Hatton fight & watched him rip through his opponent from round 1 - 12, you would have noticed that his stamina fell the fwock off after about the 6th. Bad sign.

Not sure that he took his power with him to 147 either. There again...just not sure of that...but his stamina didn't seem to come along for the ride & once plan A didn't work on Collazo...there wasn't a plan B.

Ricky's second gear either couldn't kick in on his own or Collazo just negated it.

Ricky should only move down if he wants to fight Cotto (who will be a BEAST at 147)

Ricky has plenty of options at 147, I suggest the winner or Gatti-Baldomir. Gatti has had plenty of wars and his style would bring out the best in Hatton. Baldomir is a good tough fighter but has no power (12 KO's) he does however have a great workrate.

Viv Harris would be a good fighter for Ricky too.

The key is to have a fight so he can get used to the weight, just like anyone else. A rematch would also be smart

I think that Hatton beats Gatti.

Baldomir & Collazo could be looked on as about the same thing...as far as lack of power & great workrate goes.

I'd be shocked if Baldo came out on top over everyone...stranger things.

Wacko as bad as Ricky looked and he still won, I see it being VERY much like PBF-JLC II, Hatton had PLENTY of oppertunity to take the fight to Luis but he didn't take advantage.

I think in a rematch Ricky would work harder on the inside and it would REALLY pay off. He had the right idea by smothering Collazo but he needs to take the Vitali style of clinching to heart. Clinch, just before the ref can step in, break then throw combos...works everytime! Not really the most sportsmanly way of winning but it's not totally against the rules either

he really should go back to 140, he was 158 last night

All Margarito has to do is not lose and I promise, he's getting a shot before Zab. Hell, Floyd would rather fight Shane than little Zab. With Judah it's a case of "Been there, beat that." :laugh:

Margarito will lose soon as he fights someone good. He's feasting on little guys because he couldn't cut it at 154.
