Agreed. If he saw this weekend's stateside mess...he'll fight Manfredo...
& I don't give two shat's what NBC or FOX says...he aint no fwockin Contenduh! ;D Heh heh heh.

Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
Secondsout reckons Edison Miranda is current fav to fight Joe. Also says Manfredo and Kessler have both priced themselves out with Manfredos people asking $1.5 million for the fight.
-
Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
Pavlik also was asked to fight but turned it down...
I think Miranda is better to fight Abraham and stay at middleweight. Although a win over Calzaghe would be bigger, I think it is a much tougher fight, and than you hold belts in a weightclass lacking big money fights.
A win over Abraham would put him next to Taylor/Wright or even Sturm for some bigger returns.

Yep. Kess priced himself out a few months back...& he'll be smart to keep on doing so until Joe retires.
Kess needs to unify with Beyer.
Beyer was another name being thrown about & from what I understand Joe's people were a bit interested...but Beyer's cut like fwock from this past weekend...so I imagine he's out.

Miranda needs to use his head & stay focused on someone he might have a shot at competing with...Abraham.

This would be a huge step backwards IWO unless Taylor or Wright moved up...Joe has issues with making 168 from what I have read...he'd kill himself with a dig further down.

I was saying a Miranda win over Abraham not a Calzaghe win. Clazaghe is big for supper middle, I don't think he could lose those extra 8lbs to ever go down to middleweight.
-
Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
Miranda always has a knockout puch and Manfredo looked great his last time out but they need a few more fights before going against the top fighters. Differnet weight classes but maybe they could fight each other.
Calzage could fight the winner of the Taylor/Hopkins fight.
Abraham should fight the winner of Wright/ Taylor.
Kessler should fight either Beyer or the winner of the Green/Mundine fight.

I don’t get why most of you guys believes more in Gary Shaw and Frank Warren when you talk about Kessler should pricing himself out. Team Palle offered the exact same amount to Lacy for going to Copenhagen as Kessler asked for going to Florida, but still most guys here says that Kessler priced himself out of a fight against Lacy.
Now Frank Warren said some weeks ago that Kessler “priced” himself out of a fight against Calzaghe (Kessler had offered Calzaghe to fight numerous of times) and then again posters here clap their hands and say “Yes, you are right mr. Warren”
Does anyone here actually know how much Kessler asked for the fight? I don’t think so.
There could also be other reasons that both Calzaghe and Lacy did not want to fight Kessler.
Calzaghe has been hyped a lot lately because he beat the hell out of most boxing fans darling, Lacy – but Kessler is a whole other story than Lacy, if you ask me.

I don't believe it if that's what they're saying. Why would Kessler price himself out when he's trying to get recognition? It's not like he isn't ready for Lacy/Calzaghe/Beyer

Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
This is all HBO's doing. They know no matter who Calzagahe fights (as long as it is a decent name) people are going to buy it. They are shopping around looking for an inexpensive opponent. Why pay $1.5 million when they could get someone for under $500,000 (or even less). Many decent fighters would love to take a shot at Calzaghe. It's not often you get a chance to beat a very hyped 'star' and a couple of belts to boot. Business as usual for HBO...
-
Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
I ran into this article on http://ringsidereport.com/ and i have to givethis guy right
HBO has set aside July 8th as a date for Super Middleweight Champion Joe Calzaghe. Some things never change with Calzaghe however. He still will not give up his home field advantage, opting to fight in Cardiff, Wales. His opponent is not currently set which disturbs me. HBO is notorious for letting their contract fighters take on soft opposition. Calzaghe is also notorious for fighting racking up meaningless title defenses against unworthy opponents. This hook up between HBO and Joe Calzaghe does not look promising at this point, especially since Calzaghe was given a date no matter who he fights. Team Calzaghe have looked at a couple of possible opponents. Allan Green was initially rumored which would have been a joke. Green is an untested prospect, not a world class contender. At this point in time Kelly Pavlik is the leading candidate to be Joe's opposition on July 8th. Pavlik is a bit more seasoned than Gree,n but I still have major problems with this choice. Kelly is in the process of transitioning from a prospect to a contender. Pavlik is also a natural middleweight that would have to move up in weight to fight Calzaghe. As if "The Pride of Wales" did not have enough advantages with his championship experience and fighting in his hometown he needs to seek out underdeveloped prospects from lower weight classes. All the cards would be stacked against Pavlik is he is chosen as Calzaghe's opponent. Hey Joe, try picking on someone your own size and someone on your own level. Mikkel Kessler is the only fighter that Calzaghe should be seeking out. Champions deserve a fight off after partaking in a superfight, but if Kessler is not on the menu by 2007, Calzaghe should be ashamed of himself. Joe has spent years fighting handpicked foes and it appears that nothing has changed because I have never even heard him say the name Mikkel Kessler
http://ringsidereport.com/Wilbur5152006.htm
And to Wacko,do you know how much Kessler demand for the fight against Calzaghe's?,no you don`t only thing you do are you believed everything Frank Warren say

Who Joe is fighting?, but he shouldn't worry - he can come out now. He has made sure that everyone else already has an opponent - so he can just pick some random guy. He made the Eubank-win last 8 years, so he will probably make the Lacy-win last another 3 or so years untill he retires... undefeated. hurrah.....

I can see what your saying it is very frustrating, but lets see who he gets this time but he does promise to fight a p4p fighter in the fall and hopefully in the States if he has not faught a Winky-Taylor-Tarver -Hopkins by the end of the year i will be very dissapointed in Joe, but this fight alot of the star names are tied up with other business and we know the 168 division is quite weak well weak with world class operators at this moment in time.
I honestly think the best bet for Joe is either Winky or Tarver i know Winky says he would move up a weight to fuight Joe so that would be a good match up, but lest just see what happens.

Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
I'll tell you who he should fight...Glen Johnson. I'm tired of hearin every other week on FNF that some prospect like Allan Green or Yusaf Mack could be his next opponent. How pussy is that? Fightin either of them would prove nothing. Comin off the biggest win of his career against Jeff Lacy, he should continue fighting good fighters, not lower his standards. Johnson would be a very very tough fight, and net him mad respect and a top ranking at 175 if he were to defeat the Road Warrior. Only thing is, I doubt he could.

Well if Floyd Mayweatger was from the Uk id guess you would fancy him to loose
e everytime?
Joe would go in against Johnson as a big big favourite he would have to have a big off night for Johnson to beat him, i agree that would be a good fight but he is going to be fighting Clinton Woods in a few months for the IBF Strap.

Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
I think the delay now maybe because Warren is waiting to see what happens on Friday night. If the winner of Magee/Froch is impressive and undamaged, they may be in pole position for the July date with Calzaghe. If that does not happen, it is possible Warren brings in Eastman to fill the date, IMO. ;)

I was thinking the same thing about Eastmen myself, maybe past his best but not the worst matchup, do you really thin that about the Froch Mcgee fight that would be awesome if thats the case i hope for a quick Froch KO, then Joe can KO him in a few weeks time.

The Froch/Magee scenario would help explain the delay, but I am probably wrong, I was just thinking out loud, so to speak. ;)
-
Re: Who is Calzaghe fighting any announcment yet?
I thought the American TV wanted an American opponent? Anyway I think Magee will beat Froch which is a shame if the winner gets Calzaghe cause I'd love to see Calzaghe batter Froch...Eastman coming off a KO loss (3 losses on the bounce) has to be a serious long shot ;)

Clinton Woods nearly beat Glencoffe Johnson first time round and 3rd time he stands a very high chance of doing it... I like Clinton, bit of a fan of his but I can't see Calzaghe struggling to do anything that Wood's could.

First off I don't like Floyd Maywether, I'm impressed that he finally fought Zab Judah, and won a close decision. But I don't like it when he talks bout fighting Winky Wright then goes and fights an old Sharmba Mitchell. You Brits sure do look down your noses at ol Glen Johnson don't ya? Boy you'd be in for a surprise if he and calzaghe fought IMO. ;D

Hope so, though I would have liked to see Jones fight him instead. Who do you think will win between Joe and Glen?

I think Joe will want it alot more than GJ. Should be a good fight. I'll be cheering for Glen, but I don't think he will prevail.

This would be another easy fight for Joe, Johnson like lacy is come forward fighter whose main weapon is his agression, Joe can move and hit him from angles all night long and Johnson's chin is not as strong as Lacy's, this fight would make Joe look really good.

Well first off let me just say your avatar is gay and fuk Oscar. ;D Now with that out of the way, Glen Johnson is a light heavy weight arugably the best out there, or just barely second best. He is a strong pressure fighter with less power than Lacy, but much greater experience. And whats this nonsense about his chin bein bad? Tarver couldn't hurt him and Tarver hits a hell of a lot harder than Joe Calzaghe. Glen Johnson fights in spurts and maybe Joe would beat him, maybe not, but he is certainly a worthy opponent and would give Joe a damn good fight.
