Newly crowned WBA welterweight champion Ricky Hatton has said his top choice for his next opponent is the winner of next month's rubber match between Diego Corrales and Jose Luis Castillo.
Coming off a viciously hard fought win over Luis Collazo in Boston, the Hitman said he is ready for a new challenge and believes a brawl with the winner of the upcoming rubber match would be exactly the sort of fight he needs to enhance his reputation.
"If I had my choice I would fight the winner of the Castillo-Corrales fight, but it's up to my team," said Hatton.
Although both men struggle to make the weight, Castillo and Corrales are fighting for the WBC lightweight title in Las Vegas in June and it is possible Hatton could meet the winner at a catch weight.
Leading boxing ranking website BoxRec actually lists Castillo as the number one fighter at junior welter, ahead of consensus champion Hatton.

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
If Hatton can beat either one of those two, I will give him some serious props. I personally don't think he could/will beat either one of them.

Not a good choice for Hatton to goup against any of these two fighters they can both brawl and fight

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
These guys are fighting 12 Lbs lighter then he is at right now. Why does he wish to challenge the little guys? why not Margarito or some one bigger or as big as he is since he is invinsible to so many. I do like him but why challenge either of those two fighters who have always fougth at a lighter weight class then he has always been.

I don't see any problem with him fighting Castillo. Castillo's a huge lightweight, he can't even really make it anymore and he'd be a solid jr. welter, which is where Hatton should be anyway. Hatton-Castillo at 140 would be a great fight IMO, I'd love to see that. If you put Hatton and Castillo in the same ring at 140 there wouldn't be much of a size difference, Castillo kills himself to make 135. Margarito-Hatton at 147 would be fine too, but if I were Hatton I would think about going back down to 140, and a Castillo fight would be something to look forward too.
Corrales is IMO looking a little weathered but maybe he'll show something in the third fight.

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
That is a very wise decision for Hatton; proper weight for him and giant crowd pleaser.

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
Its a shame for Hatton that Castillo is to fight Cotto next.
I think it is a good time for either Cotto or Hatton to fight Castillo because personally I think he has reached the end of his career. I hate to be a pessimist but I'm 100% certain Hatton, Castillo and Floyd all lose 1 of their next 3 fights. I would say of the next 2 but have a feeling Ricky may get spoon fed his next 2. ;D

Well, well, well, what do we have here!!!! What happened everybody, I thought Ricky was gonna give Collazo that rematch ??? ::** ??? Mayweather is given the fight of his life when jumping to a new division and what does he say to Castillo, "Let's do it again because I'm a real champ." Hatton is given the fight of his life when jumping to a new division and what does he say to Collazo, "Ah, I think I'll go fight someone 2 divisions smaller than me." Like I said before, talk is cheap.

First of all Mayweather was soundly beaten by Castillo, I think I gave Mayweather like 4rds outta 12, so there is a huge difference, Hatton won a close fight, but he WON!!!

:coolclick:
I imagine this means that The Hitman's given up on a Floyd match at 147 too, given that he said himself he'd have to "grow into the weight" in order to be competitive, which he obviously can't do if he's racing back down to the lower weight classes.

He should be targeting a rematch with Collazo.

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
Cotto is hopefully fighting Castillo in Cotto's last fight@140 and as both ar epromoted by Arum,I think that fight will happen, I can't see Chico moving up to 140 where he would be more vulnerable, who does that leave? Gatti or Baldozar? I want to see a Collazo rematch.

Oh that is such horeshat... Collazo would give PBF about as much trouble as Sharmba Mitchell did. In fact people would have shit on Floyd for even taking a fight with him, some people gave Hatton crap about it ::**. The second thing is, even if Floyd did lose the first Castillo fight it's not like he was out on his feet taking a beating in the 12th round, and it's not like he wasn't impressive whatsoever, it was a very good clean fight and he boxed nicely with a hurt arm too, then easily beat him in the rematch. It's not always who wins or loses, you have to actually watch the fight, with your eyes... If you look at Floyd in the first Castillo fight and tell me he was less impressive than Hatton was against Collazo, or that Collazo didn't deserve a rematch but Castillo did, well you really may as well save your breath because I don't care what you have to say.. Hatton showed nothing at all on saturday, he kept coming, yeah sweet I see plenty of journeymen do that.. He didn't even have great stamina Collazo would have outlasted him easily as it kept going. Think about it, Collazo's confidence just grew and grew as the fight went on, it's almost like he couldn't believe how easy it was to actually hit him, practically took him 5 rounds to figure out. I acknowledge that obviously 147 isn't the right weight for Hatton, but Floyd is very very good at the weight, miles better than Ricky... I just find it kind of funny how Ricky moves up from 140 to become a great welterweight then calls out the winner of a 135 match up instead of even caring to give a rematch or defend the title he was just given.

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner

Please. When the Judah fight initially got set up, Judah was the undisputed linear champion of the division. Granted, he blew that in the meantime, but you can't hold that against Floyd. And it's pretty clear that Floyd's next fight will be against either Oscar or Margarito, both of whom are much bigger and stronger than Floyd, and much bigger, stronger and better than Collazo.

Exactly. Judah was at 147 for like 8 fights. The guy now has 147 power. Look, it's this simple: Hatton's style of fighting will wear him down, he has no defense, he eats jabs all day, the only reason he was able to pull that WWE wrestling bullshit was because Collazo was letting him. Collazo will trade with Hatton if there is a rematch, and he will knock Hatton out. I will say this though, for someone whose head was basically a punching bag, Hatton seems like he can take a punch.

There's not chance that Mayweather won the first fight with Castillo. What fight were you watching? Castillo totally dominated him.

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
This would be a good fight for Hatton, and a GREAT fight for the public......Too many people think they know it all but don't know s*** about Boxing. At least Hatton wants to go after these guy's and prove himself against the best fighters around, who cares if it's Chico or Castillo, Gatti or Cotto.
If Hatton fought 2 fights a year for the next 3 like he said he wants to we could be in for some of the best action in years on a regular basis. They say styles make fights and Hattons all action style is a dream if he's paired up against anyone that is not scared of going toe-to-toe. Corrales, Castillo, Gatti, Baldomir, would be awesome specticles, and even Margarito and Cotto (Although I think Rick would break Cotto up the easiest of all.
-
Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
Hatton beats corrales and castillo IMO.

Like SHZA said Zab was the Champ when the fight was made and far more dangerous then Collazo. Having said that, PBF actually won his fight, and did not go out and said he will challenge the winner of a fight that is taking place (12 Lbs less then what he weights) 2 divisions lower. Why did he get scared when he got hit by a big guy.
-
Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
Seems like Castillo is lined up to fight Cotto after Corrales. If Castillo beat Cotto then I certainly would think that a fight with Hatton would be compettitve and entertaining, I just don't see Corrales troubling Hatton due to his size disadvantage, and he wom't have the power to keep Hatton at bay.
IMO Hatton should fight the rematch with Collazo, he shouldn't leave it as it is, then possibly the winner of Castillo/Cotto, fighting Corrales would be a kop out IMO.
-
Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
Hattons in a tough spot. Hatton came to 147 for a reason. Hes let go all his 140 belts. If he goes back down he will be admitting that he couldn't cut it. People will say he was run out of the WW division by Luis Collazo and it would be true.
-
Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
ImRipped , how hypocritical is that comment about the rematch!!! He wants to fight Castillo who in my opinion is 1-1 with PBF. Castillo is a much stronger fighter than Collazo FULL STOP. If Ricky is being a coward by fighting Castillo, the only person to ever seriously trouble Mayweather, instead of Collazo then you need your head examined! It is a tougher fight.

Welter weight is not a good division for Ricky to be in. I mean just look at all the current welter weight champs :o if he goes up against any one of these guys he is gonna get beat and I mean not just out boxed or out classed, you put him in the ring with Margarito, Floyd, Baldomir, Gatti or Zab and he will end up with his back on the canvas. 8)

Re: Hatton targets Castillo v Corrales winner
I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that Hatton could hang with either of these elite fighters.

Then you need to watch the fight again. No way that fight was that lop sided in Castillo's favor.
