What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
It's always good to see good sportmanship. How ironic that Tyson, after the Lennox Lewis beatdown, was one of the most gracious losers ever.
Notables:
1-Hamed after the Barrera fight
2-Corrales after the Castillo KO loss
3-Mayorga after the Spinks and Delahoya losses. (putting the belt around Spinks' waste)
4-Tszyu after the Hatton loss
5-Hatton after the Mayweather loss (HAHAHAHA!)

Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Joe Louis was gracious in victory when he knew he lost to Walcott, immediatly granting him a rematch
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
you know I can't stand Tyson but after both his losses to Evander and Lewis he was very humble
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Wow! I never heard that story before. I wish we had more guys like that in the sport today.
Whoa! Tyson was not humble after the earbite fight. He, and his whole posse, made every excuse possible for him doing that.

He threw a fit after the Holyfield loss and in the second fight when he knew he was losing he bit the mans ear.
Then, him and his entourage (bunch of clowns) complained to the camera the whole way back to the dressing room.
After the Lewis fight he was nice only because he wanted a paycheck in that fight. He wasn't really there to win.

Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
obviously not the second fight with Evander guys...I kind of thought that would be self explanatory. I meant their first fight.
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Hey, the guy whiped sweat off of Lewis' face. Either that was real classy, or Mike went momentarily gay.
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
HA!...Roy Jones was pretty good about losing to Glen Johnson. Had Tarver not been such a jackass he'd have been nicer to him too.
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Tarver had a right to be a jerk. He beat Johnson and the judges robbed him.
And you say Roy was classy when he lost to Johnson? How's that? The only shots I remember see ing of Roy were him looking like he was dead for about 20 seconds after he got hit.

Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Johhny Tapia and Alexis Arguello are the two guys I think of not just for grace in defeat but total class in and out of the ring, they were always gracious win or lose.. Often what they say after they win means just as much... Lots of fighters are cocky as hell till they get beat, then they try and show class... Which is certainly better than not at all, so Tyson and Hamed should be given some credit in their cases.

Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Ike Quartey. Most gracious fighter of the last 20 years.

Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Judah after losing to Kostya. He showed nothing but class.
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Shane mosely after the first fight with vernon forrest, while smiling at larry mechant said "Boy, Ole Vernon really did a number on me didn't he",
that was great....and he kept smiling and showed nothing but class and respect for vernon...the second fight however was not the same.....thumbs up for my boy sugar...

Witter got a cramp in the third round from all the running. So he was forced to actually fight for a while. And damn, if he didn't manage to actually stun Judah. Between rounds, the cramp went away and he went back to running. Fuckin moran.

Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
evander holyfiled in both his defeats to riidick " big daddy " bowe
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Jack Dempsey when he lost to Tunney. he was also gracious before the fight shaking his eventual conquerors hand
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Look at any of SRR defeats!! Always the first man to congratulate and shake the hand of the victor. Then probably beat him in a rematch 4 days later (or something equally rediculous). Boxers were hard in those days!!

Deserves no mention in this thread because he was such as bad winner... ;)

It wasn't on the same night obviously. He just said he was glad he could give Johnson the chance to fight him and the chance to stop working outside of boxing.

B-Hop after the first Taylor fight ;D

Oscar De La Hoya against Trinidad, Mosley (both, especially the rematch that he actually won)
amazingly enough most MMA fighters are very respectful and gracious in defeat
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Tommy Hearns was VERY gracious after he was declared the loser of the Leonard rematch....he beat the shit outta Ray in that fight!

He was taking his hand off to Lewis.
John Ruiz graciously pays his lawyers to file a lawsuit after every defeat??
-
Re: What fighters are most gracious in defeat?
Diego Corrales. Even after he knocked Castillo unconscious on the ropes Corrales wanted to make sure he was okay and give him his respect after the fight.
