Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
Just read Hatton's comments on fightnews.com. Just as I predicted, he has no intention of giving Collazo a much deserved rematch. I thought he gave Collazo his word there would be a rematch.
Read what he said. Even you Hatton fans can't deny that he is clearly ducking Collazo.

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
if he retired, he can be like Lewis and say that there is no one else left for him to beat.

i know, he should of had the rematch then moved down

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
I think as Collazo definately deserves a rematch - the fights was so close it must warrant one
Ricky would get a lot of credit for putting right what he got wrong 1st time out too

Did wrong?
Hatton won a close decision (and he deserved the close decision) - close decisions is part of boxing and why should boxers rematch if they win close decisions? I guess that we all want competitive fights and that means that we also get some close decisions.
Lacy also had a close decision against Omar - should Omar also get a rematch?
-
Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
From Hattons point of view, if he fights Collazo now and that put ones of the mega fights he had lined up off, thats not worth it for him.
-
Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
Hatton barely won. So Collazo barely lost his title.
Add that up, and Hatton owes Collazo a rematch.
But the reality is Hatton can make millions more fighting others than fighting a no name who arguably beat him.

Omar was not a beltholder. Collazo was. Ricky was the challenger. The fight was close, if not controversial. That almost always gets you a rematch.

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
I have a bad feeling Hatton is going to live off of his Kostya win for the rest of his career.
-
Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
Man, I REALLY wish he would rematch the guy and from the sounds of the press conference it sounded like he would. I wish he did but a matchup with Gatti, Baldomir, Mayweather, Cotto, Castillo or Corrales would all be something I want to see.

It is extremely hard for a foreigner to fight against an American champ in the states and get the decision. So if a foreign boxer gets the decision there, you can be pretty sure that he also won the fight.
I remember once when Johnny Bredahl was fighting Paulie Ayala for the WBA Bantamweight Title in Las Vegas, most thought that Bredahal won the fight but the scores was stupid: Judge: Chuck Giampa 115-112 | Judge: Guillermo Pérez Pineda 114-114 | Judge: Al Siciliano 116-111

I get your point, but I think the circumstances are a little different here, and there are more factors at play than American champ v. foreigner. Hatton was far more well-known than Collazo coming in, had a big, shiny new contract with HBO, and is "better for boxing" than Collazo (i.e., has and will continue to generate way more interest). So it's not like Sturm vs. ODH, for instance, where ODH got the nod because he's ODH. If anything here, I think Ricky got extra points for being Ricky--celebrity/popularity is a bigger factor than nationality IMO.

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
Collazo won the belt on SD against Jose Antonio Rivera, and he wouldnt give Rivera a rematch. So why should Hatton be obligated to give Collazo a rematch? You can say everything you want about legacy, clearing up the questions, etc, etc... But every good, great, all time great has questions marks on their records. Whether it was against questionable opposition, the way they won, whatever, they all have at least one fight that we can question. I dont feel that he is required to give a rematch. I would like to see one but if he doesnt give the rematch it wont tarnish his overall record.
Besides if he is actually moving back down, then there is no reason for a rematch.

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
I'm ready to see Hatton again... We've never seen him come off a fight like this, so his attitude and the way he aproaches the fight should be totally different. He's been known for determination but I think we'll see him more hungry and determined than ever in his next bout. Quit bitching and wait till his next fight, flip floppers :)

That was a good one. :coolclick: all i'm saying is all hatton fans were saying what a great guy he is and how he is a gentleman and a man of his word. Well he said he would give a rematch now hes going back on it. So either he is a little afraid or he ain't the gentleman you guys thought he was.As a fan i know you try to see all the positive in your fighter but something has to give. The guy can't have it both ways and neither can his fans when its convenient to them

Because Collazo did it on 2 weeks notice. And that Rivera said he wouldn't fight at 147 anymore after that fight and that he would move up to 154 so he wasn't looking for a rematch ;)

Same thing that people had against Mayweather for the Collazo fight. Difference is that Floyd had the guts to give Castillo a rematch ;) he didn't run back down to 130 to fight easier fights ;D

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
I think it is kind of funny, all of us gripe about people being at weights they dont belong but refuse to go back down to "their better weight". But when Hatton realizes he may not be able to handle 147 like he thought and decides to go back down, we jump him and degrade. Who knows maybe he does think he got away with one. Collazo doesnt have much power for a fighter at 147 and he got to Hatton on a couple of occasions.
I am not sure if Hatton just needs to grow into the weight or if its just a step to far. Either way its his decision on where he fights.

I think in a fight that close the champion deserves a chance to win back his title - a bigger Ricky Hatton fan you will do well to find (well maybe not on here ;)) but if the shoe was on the other foot we would all be screaming for a rematch

Thats true Rivera didnt want a rematch.........

Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
I'm surprised and slightly dissapointed in Ricky,Mayweather gave Castillo a rematch straight away and shut the critics up,it was a chance for Ricky to do the same. Also, I dont see matches with battle worn Gatti more important than beating Collazo! If I was Collazo,I would run my mouth and haunt Hatton until I got the rematch and also,Collazo gave him a chance,Hatton should return the favour. Very dissappointing.
-
Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
give hatton a break the guy has a style that can beat him, collazo looked ok but he aint gonna do anything in the diviosn either
-
Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
Collazo doesn't deserve a rematch. Does every fighter who fights a close match deserve a rematch? He lost, maybe not by much but he obviously lost.
Hatton looked one dimensional, and a Collazo couldn't take advantage of that. Hell, he had him badly hurt and still couldn't capitalize on it.
-
Re: Big surprise! Hatton ducks Collazo rematch
The words of a worried fan ;) You know who would win the rematch ;D And Collazo won that fight ;) And he didn't "obviously lose" ::**

I'd like to see the rematch too, but don't hit out with the ducking crap. Hatton wants the big fights. Collazo is not a big fight. Mayweather, Margarito, Castillo, Gatti. Those are the big fights and Hatton doesn't plan to be around long to entertain your skepticism, just because, shock horror, he didn't blow away one of his opponents. What's that, maybe 1 fight out of 41 that he didn't win convincingly? Oh wow, I guess we should remove him from the P4P list and rag on him until he knocks Collazo out.

I know that your'e a bit sensitive on this matter...& it is like riding a dead horse through the pasture...it's old...& it stinks...& it's a bit uncomfy to discuss...but if you say that the man get's a rematch...give it to him...the next day...don't watch tape & say...errrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmm...maybe I better bail & rethink this...it is the man's title that he was given.
Anywho...Hatton is still a great fighter & all that...but just like so many other fights over the last 2 years...I just think that it was the incorrect decision.
What's done is done...but a draw woulda been better...
