i would like to see a hatton fight gatti, corrales or castillo cos it would make a good for a good exciting scrap. all a rematch with collazo would do is shut up the critics for ten minutes cos hatton would beat him again, like he said he already won. hatton won but i wouldnt really say he beat him cos it was so close. but if they faught again i can just see hatton winning again, and if he was on form winning the way he should have done the first time round. a fight with gati, cotto, castillo or even corrales excites me much more.

Fair enough, he didn't look good in his last fight, and there may be an argument that he is not as good p4p as we thought before the fight. But for fooks sake, the guy has won three major world titles at two different weights in his last three fights, in the process dethroning a p4p legend in Tszyu. Arturo Gatti is a game fighter, and a legend in his own right - but in a crowd-pleasing sense, not in terms of talent. Prime for prime, Gatti isn't in Hatton's class, and as for the present moment, don't talk such shite.

i just dont see how a guy with no defense, no jab, an average chin, below average power, and zero techinique --speaking of ricky hatton---can be considered such a great fighter and a p4per................compare him with gatti who has a great jab, decent technique, solid chin, tremendous heart and desire second to none, very good power, good footwork, and a commitment to going to the body...how can gatti be considered an underdog when hes the bigger, stronger, guy with better technique? i just dont get it....

Hatton is a good fighter but i don't think he last last in this division. I think he lost the last fight, just like ol boy said u have to dominate a champion to take his belt and he didnt dominate at all. I think anyone else in that division would destroy him. The top in the division that is

I agree with the first statement and i respect that you can admit that. :)But as far statemet number 2 we both know that only 1 of those titles really meant anything and that was tszyus. And the last statement. Well the verdict is still out because the truth is hatton has not yet fought a good fighter in his prime. Tszyu was a great but not in his prime and all the others before him were blown up lightweights and past their prime junior welters. If anything the one fighter he did fight that was near his prime was Collazo and he barely beat him.Hatton fans like to call anyone who says negative about him hatton haters but i'm not hating just giving the facts and if anyone don't agree that these are the facts then they need to take off the hatton glasses please before they make you go fully blind.

But that's exactly what I'd say about Gatti. I like watching both blokes for the same reasons--they have clear flaws and they're not elite fighters, but they have a lot of heart--the combination of these characteristics leads to, as you say, exciting fights. It's not "hatton bashing"--I love to watch Ricky fight. I just think he's closer in boxing stature to Gatti (whom I also love to watch) than he is to a p4p elite like Mayweather or Castillo.

I will admit, that since the KT fight, he seems to have got slightly stuck in the mindset that won him that fight, and needs to get back to the old Ricky somewhat.
However, it is indisputable that Ricky Hatton would start as a betting favourite against Arturo Gatti, even you cannot dispute that. I agree with the first statement and i respect that you can admit that. :)But as far statemet number 2 we both know that only 1 of those titles really meant anything and that was tszyus. And the last statement. Well the verdict is still out because the truth is hatton has not yet fought a good fighter in his prime. Tszyu was a great but not in his prime and all the others before him were blown up lightweights and past their prime junior welters. If anything the one fighter he did fight that was near his prime was Collazo and he barely beat him.Hatton fans like to call anyone who says negative about him hatton haters but i'm not hating just giving the facts and if anyone don't agree that these are the facts then they need to take off the hatton glasses please before they make you go fully blind.

For instance, Ben Tackie, Vince Phillips, Carlos Maussa, Luis Collazo and even Eamonn McGee aren't nobodies, they're just not pound-for-pounders. And two of those 5 were world champions.
Also, Honey Nut Loops did say he'd knock him out, and I was addressing him too.

You have clearly never seen Ricky Hatton before his last couple of fights. Early in his career, some of the things that marked him out and created a buzz around the British boxing seen were PRECISELY his FOOTWORK and TECHNIQUE. He had great lateral movement, found wicked angles and mixed up his attack superbly. And a guy with a 75% KO ratio does not have no power. AND how the fook does he have an average chin - he has a great chin: 1 flash kd in 41 fights and Kostya didn't so much as wobble him.
I will admit, that since the KT fight, he seems to have got slightly stuck in the mindset that won him that fight, and needs to get back to the old Ricky somewhat.
However, it is indisputable that Ricky Hatton would start as a betting favourite against Arturo Gatti, even you cannot dispute that. Gatti is NOT bigger - he used to be a SUPER-FOOKING-FEATHERWEIGHT, I seriously doubt he is stronger and on top of that he is a spent force.
Ricky Hatton is an undefeated, two-weight, triple world champion and that is why Gatti is an underdog
You are right but the question i will ask is Who did he do these things to? Was it against real good fighters or blown up lightweights and past their prime jwws. Everyone on his resume before tszyu were nobodies and everyone after have been nobodies.

Come on. Your talkin about tackie who had 4 wide points loses before he met hatton. Vince phillips who was an ex-addict who was koed by millet and also lost a couple of wide points deceisions before he met hatton. Maussa come on he got koed by Cotto when cotto was still very green. Collazo is a prospect/contender and you know it. I won't even waste my time on Mcgee

They're solid fighters. No boxer in history has a resume made up entirely of all-time-greats and Hatton's only been in three world title fights.
And since we were talking about Gatti, he's only ever fought two great fighters and been battered by both.

This is all true. My question is, given these facts, why is Ricky Hatton entitled to high p4p status? I'm not here to say he's shit or any such nonsense, but if we can all agree that he's fought a few "solid" fighters, one great fighter who was coming off a long layoff at the end of his career, and only three title fights, why do fans get so belligerant when anyone questions whether maybe he hasn't shown enough to be talked about as some kind of p4p king? He may well prove himself to belong there at some point, and I'm not ready to dismiss him out of hand based on his very close fight with Collazo, but I just don't see him being there now.

The reason he has to be in the p4p is because he DID beat one of the best fighters in the world, he's undefeated, he's won three major world titles and moved up in weight to win the last one. I don't think you have to beat ten hall of famers before you can be considered one of the best in the world, at the present moment. If I was arguing for him to be an all time great then yes, you do. But the way I see it his status has risen thus:
38 fights against steadily improving opponents, winning domestic and minor world honors made him a top contender in what was widely recognised as the strongest weight division. So already this must put him in the top 20 or so. Then beat the best guy in the best division to become the linear champ > top ten, as long as he proved it wasn't a fluke. Two more fights, two more major titles > top ten. Stick on.
