Clottey: Margarito can't hide!
Wednesday, May 24 2006
Welterweight contender Joshua Clottey (28-1, 20 KOs), ranked #4 by the WBC, #5 by the WBO, and #7 by the IBF, has his eyes set on WBO Welterweight Champion Antonio Margarito (33-4, 24 KOs). "I'm determined to become a world champion," says Clottey. "I have the skills, work ethic and heart to be a champion. I've dealt with many hardships throughout my career and getting a shot at Margarito and the title would make it all worth it. This is what I have been working toward my whole life. I have a lot of respect for Antonio Margarito as a champion. I know he always wants to fight the best. I am the best welterweight contender in the world. Margarito may want to fight an easier fight right now, but if Antonio wants to stay at welterweight, he can run, but he can't hide."
Maaaaan, this guy needs to shut his mouth!Margarito would crush him but to be honest, I don't want to see Tony fight him because it will prove nothing and no-one will care! I'd rather see a name of sorts IE sharmba Mitchell

Re: Clottey wants Margarito
intersting post but Clottey might be the one fighter that could possibly hurt Margarito at this weight.
-
Re: Clottey wants Margarito
margarito will crush him
but thats just business as usual :)
-
Re: Clottey wants Margarito
Clottey wants to get beat down. ;D
-
Re: Clottey wants Margarito
Clottey...the guy that was supposed to fight Augustus? Never even heard of him before that. Noone is hiding here but Clottey, he's hiding in obscurity.

Re: Clottey wants Margarito
Well he beat the living heck out of Baldamir a long time ago and none of the big name guys have wanted to fight him since.

Baldomir? He's not on his record. Bojado, Elder, Trujillo and Darryl Tyson are but he has a L next to those fights.
-
Re: Clottey wants Margarito
Clottey is a pretty good fighter. Dunno if he could take Margarito though. But he is a tough, solid fighter.
-
Re: Clottey wants Margarito
Clottey is actually a decent fighter. Why would Margarito fight him? Margarito dosn't believe in fighting fighters that have a chance to beat him. Ever since the Santos fight, Margarito avoids those type of fighters.

I dunno bout all that. ;D ::** So you thnk it is Tony who is choosing not to fight good opposition, not the other way around? Only thing the Santos fight taught him, which by the way I thought he shoulda won on points, was that 154 is not a good place for him, least not as good as 147. Cintron was a risk IMO, and margarito crushed him.

Man I am so off today it's not even funny. School finals are getting to me. I thought it was Emmanuel Clottey, the guy that pulled out of the Augustus fight recently. :-[
:coolclick: I should have known better :-\

That maes sense. Still should have known better though seeing as how I've seen Joshua fight before.
Never knew he beat Baldomir though. Or at least was beating him.

Re: Clottey wants Margarito
I know how those finals mess with the mind and the two brothers had me confused for a while as well

Margarito looks like he rather just sit on the sidelines and whine about Mayweather. Why dosn't he take any risks?

So Cintron wasn't a risk?

Cintron was so overrated it wasn't even funny. Look at his fight with Teddy Ried who's pretty much a club fighter and see much punishment he took.

Re: Clottey wants Margarito
Well most people predicted that Cinrton was the new Tito and would KO Tony,Gomez,no one gave a chance but he was SUPPOSED to be durable and his right hand may have caused problems etc etc These guys are not A* or indeed recognisable names and Tony beats the shat out of him. Same would happen with Clottey,it would prove nothing. I'd rather see the Sharmba fight,it's decent albeit beaten up name and it will give a good indication as to how good Tony is with boxers.

Nah i would rather see clottey. I think sharmba is done. Once he gets tagged he won't fight to win he'll just try to survive. I think clottey would come in hungry and give a good fight. A losing fight but a good fight.

Re: Clottey wants Margarito
The easiest way to protect the pretty franchise fighters is to have all their dangerous persitant challengers eliminate each other.

Yes he would. And I freely admit it. Reid is a free swinger with good power and tons of heart. He has been ranked in the top ten on several occasions and has beaten some pretty good fighters. To me he deserves a lil respect buddy.

I actually like Ried myself. But he's a club fighter. Simple as that.
