Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Plenty of options.
Let's discuss...because let's face it...Klitschko is damned near the best out there @ 200+.
Pick somebody...anybody...whether you think they'd win...or you just want to see Wlad fail or whatever...let's just talk it out.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
i voted james toney. yes, he's a fat gobshite, but he deserves one more chance seeing as he blobbed out against rahman....
if he is willing to try and redeem himself against arguably the best and most dangerous heavyweight out there then the guy has balls and i would like to see it....
im a toney fan, but i know as well as anyone that a fat toney may very well get bombed out of there....but a focussed toney might do somewhat better...
whether toney can really get up for running off some of those pounds in training is another matter though....
regardless, i choose toney. it might end his career....but with toney there is always the element of the unknown, maybe he can make it interesting one more time....

Good post miles.
I voted Toney too...mainly because Jirov (at cruiser) showed Toney a bit of trouble & I think that Toney (at cruiser) was in pretty damned good shape for that fight & I consider Wlad the best heavy out there now...& I just can't wait to see Toney get his fat ass get pounded into shape...the shape of an oil stain. ;D

thanks wacko...
agreed. wlad may very well destroy toney, but if toney really is the fighter and warrior he claims to be then it will be very interesting to see how toney responds to the possible bombardment and punishment wlad can dish out....will toney be able to dig in and test wlad or will he ultimately crumble....
byrd fell apart, but i think toney brings a different kind of fight to the table. its hard to hit him flush, wlad will waste plenty of punches trying to find his target....you can hit toney but you waste punches on the way because of his ever rolling style. my worry with regards to toney is the rahman fight. was that a sign of things finally catching up with toney or was it a blip because of poor preparation. he wasnt able to press for 12 rounds and to be honest, to beat wlad you need to pressure, pressure, pressure and hopefully you can make him implode from sheer effort. toneys skills are undeniable but he needs the physical aspects to maximise his inbuilt boxing skills. its his only way of beating wlad...
toney isnt stupid, but he might be a little pig headed, whence the continual ballooning....
if he can lose weight, hit the road and then we have an intriguing twilight toney fight, if not then it could mean the final dismantling of a long, long career....

Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Wait, how come Toney "deserves" another shot? Geez, the guy got one against Ruiz... steroids, then another against Rahman... just plain laziness, and those two things equal "deserving" another shot? Maybe this is why the heavyweight division lingers on in the mess it's in because these names keep getting "shots" just because they're names... I mean I realize that most of the prospects right now are pretty green, but who knows, lets dump the tubs of lard and the "just-good-enough-to-get-bys" already and start seeing some of these younger guys get shots.

So yeah... I voted Shannon Briggs... cause he's... young... and... umm... wait no... ;D

Let me just ask you this...if that fat ass was on your way to unification...wouldn't you want to stomp the shat outta his big mouthy lard ass?
I mean...just as a bonus?
Sure you would. ;D

Wait, I thought you meant unify the World Heavyweight Championship, not the special edition Crackerjack toy collectibles... we just weren't on the same page there ;)

Myself.
I'm out too.
On that note...who did you vote for in the poll...& if you didnt vote...who'd you want Wlad to face next?

Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
I voted Brester. Let's see how he does in a rematch there.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
I’d like to see some sort of an effort at unifying (I don’t regard IBO), we need a Heavyweight Champ again. If Hasim Rahman gets past his old nemesis Maskaev in August we have a chance to unify WBC and IBF. Nikolay Valuev with the WBA would be an easy fight to promote once he disposes of Beck in June. Serguei Lyakhovich could be a good fight and holds the WBO but without trying to sound racist, if Klit isn’t fighting a black man or another giant… nobody will buy it.
If I can’t have any of the above then I would either like to see Toney get his retirement fight or Briggs get the shot, but the most likely fight is a rematch with Brewster. Calvin Brock is undefeated and rated #3 with the IBF but he ain’t ready for Klits level yet and all the rest simply don’t interest me.
so assuming the other 2 major belts don't change hands my final pick would be who performs the best, or basically who ever doesn't have a boring fight.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Valuev or Rahman. Purely because I think unifying the heavyweight division will be healthy for it. It isin such poor shape that Evander is thinking of making a come back! The names who aren't fighting at their level anymore should retire and let the prospects have a shot. John Ruiz is No 1 contender for WBA after Valuev-Beck, what a joke he was a farce as a champion in the first place
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
I voted Toney. Either he gets in shape and we get an exciting David vs Goliath, Shill vs Power match, or he gets his arse whipped. It's win-win from where I'm sitting.

I would like to see the titles unified as soon as possible..
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Nikolay Valuev
Probably not a great fight but I'm for any effort to unify the titles and I'd rather see Toney/Rahman/Maskaev fight it out for the WBC before inserting Wlad into the mix with those guys. Peter, Brock, Williams, Briggs, etc. can wait until the titles are unified (maybe they can fight each other in the meantime).
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho
I think that his next fight will be against Sultan Ibragimov.
Not the fight I was hoping for but there it is.
Wlad will be tested but he should win this.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
I would LOVE to see Wlad-Brewster II but I think Lamon is nursing his eye back to health and even if he's healthy I think Brewster-Lyahkovich II is going to happen before Wlad is in the mix.
I see Wlad fighting the winner of Brock-Timor then the winner of Ruiz-Sultan.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
I voted for Valuev..I think its a circus when this guy gets in the ring 7'0 320lbs he has never been down or KO'd his head is the size of a watermelon you need to hit that boy with a hammer if you want him to go down...
Klit is a fast strong man if anyone could get to valuev I think its Klit...
If Wlad cant get the job done than I think its Shaquile O'neal's turn..LOL!!
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
I would also love to see that fight but I think in the intrest of holding on to the IBF belt and because Don King wants Nicolay to stay as far away from any threats as possible the fight won't happen
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
James Toney cause I want to watch him knocked out very badly. "There will never be a white HW-champ"
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
seems a while to be out of the ring. thought he might have had another bout in the summer
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho
Now don't get me wrong..........if this thread was all about who I would want him to fight it would be
1.)James Toney or Lamon Brewster
2.) a toss up between Valuev and Rahman
As much as I would like to see him fight Toney or Brewster, we deserve to see some unification bouts.
When will this ever happen?
Probably never as I have said before due to the fact that they are making more money with the belts seperated.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Wlad said on his website if Brewster says he's healthy and willing to fight Wlad will sign up right away!
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
He also said he's willing to fight: Valuev, Lyakhovich, Maskaev, Rahman, and James Toney
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Doubt it will happen, but I voted Rahman.
And why? Because who ever wins (Wlad wins, if he is 100% focused), gets to call themselves THE Heavyweight Champion of the World.

Not suprising as I don't think that there is anyone out there that can beat him right now.
Still, part of me just wants to see him silence Toney and the Toney fans even though I know that this fight wouldn't accomplish anything other than waking up some delusional JT fans.
He wouldn't gain anything from this match-up though and to be honest Toney really does not deserve another title fight.

Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
According to a report out by Kevin Iole of The Las Vegas Review Journal, James Toney could be next for Wladimir Klitschko.
Kevin Iole reports that: manager Shelly Finkel said he's working on a fight for Klitschko against James Toney, probably Nov. 11 in New York.
If that fight doesn't come off Finkel said unbeaten Calvin Brock was also is in the mix.
Iole's report also states that Hasim Rahman, the WBC champ, would have been Klitschko's first choice for an opponent, but Rahman faces Oleg Maskaev on Aug. 12... a date that could easily conflict with a fight in Novemeber.

I did... the sooner the belts get back together the better... and Toney offers nothing. His style can't beat Wlad's and even if he was in shape, at his best I really doubt he could come forwards and hurt Wlad enough to beat him...
I want to see Toney getting beaten up, not as much as I want a unified champ which should force more high calibre fights and bring the division forwards again.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Looking over that list is kind of depressing, because I don't see one person who I would give a good chance to win. And if they did somehow win it would probably be because of something Wlad did or didn't do ie. paniced or gassed out, and it still wouldn't mean anything in terms of establishing one dominant champ. Wlad is the only guy who has a shot of doing that imo, but the one guy I wouldn't mind seeing him against is Liakovich.. He had some moments in that fight with Brewster where he looked pretty good, good enough to give Wlad trouble and we don't know he could really hurt Wlad if he caught him. That's one I want to see but I imagine he will make every effort to fight Toney since it would be the biggest attraction at MSG. If Toney could show some sign of giving a damn and get into shape beforehand then that would be my pick.. But Liakovich is the only one I would give a shot based on recent performances.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Rumor has it that Wlad is going to fight James Toney...I don't appreciate Toney getting a title shot but I will LOVE to see him get his fat ass knocked out!
I don't look forward to people saying Toney will beat Wlad...I mean what planet would that happen on? Toney has NO SHOT at all!

heyup wacko i voted james toney. i read in Boxing News that a James Toney fight would be a lot easier to negotiate. Apparently if that falls thro Sergey Liakhovich or calvin brock would be next in line. I think Wlad would beat both brock quite handily. Not sure about beatin the other two tho. Toney is blatantly out of condition but wlad does carry some stamina worries and if Toney can get inside of wlad's jab and fight on the inside then it could become interesting. Sergey Liakhovich could give wlad all he can handle aswel. I'm only judging on the brewster fight but he looks half decent and this would probably make for the most entertaining fight!!
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
Sergei is going to be Wlad's toughest challenge...he has a good chin, he's tall, he can jab. He doesn't have power though. Seems the only way to beat Wlad is withstand the offensive onslaught long enough to tire Wlad out.....a VERY tough task for anyone
Looks like Toney is going to be the fight that's made...I'll GLADLY watch him get his fat ass whupped into submission.
-
Re: Wladimir Klitschko fights again on 11-11-06 @ Madison Square Garden. Who tho?
how can u guys not respect toney more ...the fatter and more out of shape he is and can still compete at top level only makes me more in awe of him
anyway toney should fight some of the other champs cause wlad is too big but if toney fights wlad i know he has a chance of winning

Yeah, you make that bet...did you see that fat slob fight Hasim Rahman? Once Oleg Maskaev KO's Rahman again maybe your views of James "Too Fat" Toney will change.
Chris Byrd, the slickest boxing heavyweight got straight up DESTROYED and don't think for one second Toney has the power, stamina, or chin to hang with Wlad...this will be nothing more than a sparring session
