Wacko's Drunken Weekend: Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo & Dawson Harding
Once again my fellow forum goers...it's time for another installment of Wacko's Drunken Round By Round!!!
This coming Saturday night we'll be in tow for the rubber match of Diego Corrales (40 wins with 33 ko's & 3 losses) & Jose Louis Castillo (54 wins with 47 ko's, 7 losses, & 1 draw) as they fight over bragging rights of who's who at the top of the 135lb Light Welterweight ladder.
Steeped in controversy, the first two fights of this wild trilogy set a landmark for heart in both fighters...the question remains: Can they bring the best out in each other one more time?
That answer my friends lies in the ring of the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday June the 3rd, 2006 & you can gotdam well better believe that we'll be there...straight from the couch & right in front of the widescreen with the coverage...liquor in hand.
That being said...the fight will be televised by Showtime.
Well...fellars...as usual I like to do a bit of prep work for the up & coming match...so here goes...it aint much because we all know that I aint the greatest enthusiast of these two & we all pretty much know what's what with both fighters...but some things have got to be said & there are questions that need to be asked.
#1: This should & could be a smoker due to the fact that both men are going to be here to settle the score once & for all. Both have a win over the other...no matter how odd the win was. This is going to compel each man to lay it all out on the line punch for punch...the title's a plus too. Both men have taken their fair share's of beatings...so: Who's got the most left in the tank?
#2: The first fight ended with Corrales being dropped repeatedly & then spitting out his mouthpiece. The ref (Toney Weeks) gave Corrales a much necessary breather, took a point, & then Corrales came back to pretty much tear Castillo a new poop shoot. Again, Weeks got a bit too involved (to hear most people talk) & jumped in between the two as Corrales unloaded on Castillo until his eyes were rolling around in his head like marbles & drool was pouring outta his mouf like a slobering baby. Will Corrales repeat the magic & stop Castillo once again to even the score?
#3: The second fight ended in just as much controversy...but with Corrales climbing offa the canvas gasping for air like a fish outta water. Castillo came in overweight & it cost him some cash...but he still got the win. His team tried to tip the scales...literally & they got caught. So, when Castillo did'nt make weight (by 4-5 lbs I think) & went on to drop Corrales by way of a TKO...everyone screamed foul...everyone but Corrales. He took that pounding like a man because in the end...& IWHO...it was indeed Corrales fault for being wide a** open for the shot that he took. Same question...players reversed. Will Castillo repeat the shock & drama by stopping Corrales once again to close the door?
#4: Personally...I aint a fan of either one of these fighters...but the fights are entertaining to say the least & you gotta wonder what's gonna come of either man win, lose, or draw?
As showdown with rising Puerto Rican super star Migeul Cotto lies around the corner already mapped out for Castillo...can Corrales spoil that shot?
If so...will Corrales then get the crack at Cotto?
In the end...when all is said & done...will this be the end of the road for the loser of this match?
How far down the ladder will the loser fall?
#5: What's going to happen this time? I mean...the other fights will go down as being brawls...big time...but they also go down as fights with outside factors. If both matches prior went down with rules being bent...what else will go on this time?
Curious. That may be the main reason that I watch in the first place...that & too see who get's knocked out first...because let's face it...somebody's gonna be couting light bulbs, no doubt.
Then again...rules are rules & weights are weights...& what was done could not be undone...so Castillo was fined by the Nevada Athletic Commission...Corrales kept his title & here we go once again for the 3rd & let's hope final fight between these two.
Also...Friday night June the 2nd, 2006 we got a 12 rounder in the Light Heavyweight division as Bad Chad Dawson matches strength to skills with Eric Harding over the NABF's title.
Should be a grand weekend.
So...as always...break out the chips & salsa...your poison of choice & pick your spot on the couch or the living room floor...Saturday June the 3rd, 2006 is fight night & we all up in the muvah like your third sister's brother's cousin ya'll!
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.

:coolclick: in another 24 hours.
I gotta go with Castillo by KO as I just think that Corrales has a tendency to rely on his power & leaves his chin wide ass open...you?
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
CC also wack you go to a lot of effort.
Castillo ko for me. Looked way too strong last time, and was only 2 lbs over originally (somehow he managed to put MORE weight on before the neaxt try, definitely seemed unspoortsmanlike). I'll be rooting for Corrales though

Castillo by KO, IWHO also...but I'll be rooting for Corrales too.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Agreed Castillo KO for me - would've one the first had it not been for some clever spitting of the Gumshield ;)
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Castillo for me by late (T)KO. I dont see this going any other way. Corrales got lucky in the first fight, if he didnt get that extra time he wouldnt have made it out of the round.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
I don't wanna see Corrales get punished...... the only thing that'll make this bearable to watch is my 60 inches of HDTV!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Oh ya here is another :coolclick: for the DRbR. It seems this fight has been forgotten about a little bit. Really havnt read much about it on this board. Should be another scorcher thou.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Nice work Wacko cc for you.
Castillo KO late, I think both guys are gonna take some hard shots, but Castillo has the better
defense and that decides it for me

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
:coolclick: s around the thread...
raleights...I'll gay you up later. ;)
Tybuff hit a good point...nobody is really talking about this fight that much...I suppose that the next PPV Events in the coming week are overshadowing this one maybe?

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
People have an idea of what to expect now, they've already seen the first fight more than once and realize Diego was lucky, still one of the most dramatic things to ever happen in the ring but it's still luck.. They seen Castillo completely destroy him the 2nd time around, now they expect it again. No element of suprise, it's clear to even the casual fan Corrales will more than likely fall. The only way this fight won't be a let down is if Corrales musters up another dramatic comeback, and if he wins I'm 80% sure he'll be coming back from an asswhoopin to do it. No way he's gonna dominate Castillo, it's as close to a sure thing as you'll get :(

Agreed.
It would be nice to see him gut it out again & win...but I aint lookin for that to happen.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Apparently we are all realists regarding this fight.
We all know that Castillo's gonna win...but a vast majority of us want to see Corrales gut it out again.
Interesting.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
:coolclick: Wacko Good breakdown on the action!! I gotta go with Corralles on this fight just a gut though this one wont go to the cards rest assured

I want Corrales to pull it out...believe me...but I don't see it coming off that way.

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
I can't wait for my man Vic Darchinyan to knock out Luis Maldonado prior to Corrales vs Castillo 3.
C'mon Vic knock him out in 8 rounds. ;D

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Ok, gonna stick my neck out here.
Im the only one whos voted for a decision (unless Starr gets to this by the time you read this thread, everyone goes one way so you gotta the other way yeah Starr ;))
I believe Corrales is gonna start this fight outboxing Castillo, take a lot of the early rounds, not necessarily by much, but just by using his superior slickness and reach to cut Castillos effectiveness. Corrales' camp must have hammered it into him by now that this is how hes gotta win.
HOWEVER
I see in about the 6th or 7th round, JLC catching Corrales a bit and the warrior within shat kicks in know what I mean boyz. Corrales will get all macho here and try to outslug JLC and us fans will start loving it. If Corrales can stay upright, which I believe he will, maybe even steal a couple of these late rounds as well, there you have your decision win for Corrales.
Should be a cracker of the fight, what we need is a sensible referee for this one. Both guys are capable from coming back after vicious onslaughts so we dont want the ref prematurely stopping this one, dont know why I bring this up, jus got a bad feeling.
The opponent of the winner is going to be different dependning on who wins IMO. Castillo is a dead cert to go on and face Cotto, Corrales on the other hand I see as a more likely target for Hatton. Hes just the sort of boxer Hatton could eat up in a great fight which would cause a Hatton explosion stateside (among the casual fans at least) and renew Hattons charge for PBF.
Personally, Id rather see Cotto-Castillo, that thing has fight of the year written all over it! Yet Id reather see Corrales win the fight....go figure.
Cant wait for this one, Sky are giving it to us FOR FREE ;D and Im not gonna miss a second.
:coolclick: Wackster, Ive said it before but youre efforts on these things is astounding, dont ever stop!!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Bold issue. The thing is that they are both beatable at this point in their careers more then they have ever been prior. Corrales especially... no idea he's been doing the talking so maybe he 'll get beat no idea who to pick.
-
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Good appetiser as always Wacko, :coolclick:
I see this being more like the first fight but not quite as intense. I also think Coralles will get a points decision but it will be close and could even be a draw. Have a gut feeling we will not see a KO in this one as I expect both men to be more cautious than in the previous two.
Either way it should be a cracker, can't wait!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
I want Chico to win for 2 reasons:I love the guy and also, the second fight left a sour taste in my mouth,JLC made no attempt to make the weight, that was dissappointing. Also, with Castillo fighting my boy Cotto at the end of the year,I want Chico to soften him up abit!! However,JLC made a few defensive modifications in the second fight and well, crushed Chico! Chico needs to change it up but seriously,I cannnnnnot wait!!! Will be awesome!

Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo III
Before the Castillo Croalles rubber match we'll be getting a treat on Showtime tonight.
This Friday night it's gonna be a bang out in the form of Bad Chad Dawson (22 wins with 15 ko's) vs former champion Eric Harding (23 wins with 7 ko's, 3 losses, & 1 draw) over the course of a 12 round test.
Many people underate BCD as much as they belittle Eric Harding...but not Wacko...course...I don't overratte opr underrated either man.
Many questions will be answered Friday night as he takes on a veteran world class operator in the form of Erick Harding. Harding has fought many NAMES (so to speak) & he's got enough experience to take BCD & possibley drown him. I don't honestly see that happening...bu tI do see a hard fought fight.
Chad Dawson is a fluctuating Light Heavyweight from Hartsville, SC fighting out of New Haven, CT. In 22 fights he's gone up & down from the 160 mark to the 175 point. Personally...I'd prefer he picked a spot & stuck there...like 168. He could be damned effective there & plenty of compellig matches are to be made.
He's a youngin...a prospect born in 1982 on July the 13th. BCD is regarded as a dangerous 6' 3 southpaw & he normally fights at 168lbs...which is just where I wish that he would stay. Personally I think tkhat he could dominate 168 under the tutelage of Winky Wright & Dan Birmingham...but here he is at 175...a man's gotta do what man's gotta do.
The thing is...he's gonna be in with a world class operator in the form of Harding. You can all write him off if you want...but Harding has been in with Telesco, Jones, Jones jr., Griffin, Johnson, & Tarver. He's had mixed results with some...but he did defeat Tarver once. You can't strike the man's name off the list because he's old news or on the slide or whatever...he could be just as determined, if not more, & he has won his last two figths.
EIther way...it's only 24 hours away from our drunken weekend...& I for one am completely thrilled to death just to be able to see what the prospect can do against some reall opposition.
Get back all of ya's...
& as always...cheers & koneecheewah bitches!

Re: Wacko's Drunken Weekend: Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo & Dawson Harding
this may be a stab in the dark but im saying corrales on points ,i cant seeing it being as brutal as the first, and not as definitive as the second. i see corrales employing new tactics and outscoring castillo just a feeling(somebody hang me)

Hang you my ass!!!
THat'd be fine with Wacko...I want COrrales to pull it out...I jus tthink that the likelihood of that happening are abot in line of the chances of me staying sober on fight night...slim to fwockin none!

Re: Wacko's Drunken Weekend: Round by Rounds of Corrales Castillo & Dawson Hardi
I remember the second fight, I was super excited. It was, along with the scheduled Calzaghe-Lacy bout (that got pushed back) the fight I was looking forward to most that year.
It was great while it lasted, though I didn't like how Corrales fought. He has the tools to win the fight imo, he just has to step to the right of Castillo and pop off with his jab and set up with power punches behind that. You can fight in a phone booth and still use your jab, you just have to make room for the jab by creating angles. That is how he had sucess in the first fight and is how he eventually won the fight. In the second I think he and Joe Goosen got caught up in standing in front of Castillo and beating him to the punch instead of focusing on Corrales' positioning and footwork on the inside. Very disappointing imo and that is why so many are writing him this fight because he was disposed of in the second but I think he can beat Castillo. I'm glad this got pushed back from the February date it was scheduled for because I didn't think either fighter was 100% going into the second, especially Corrales. I hope everyone is treated to a great fight on Saturday, I'm to busy with school and finals and everything but now that I found out it's not PPV, I think I'm having people over for this one. The first one was just such a great fight, if this is half of that fight then people got their money's worth imo. CAN'T BELEIVE THIS ISN'T PPV! Man I'm on dream street right now.
Anyways, my pick is....I really don't know. Corrales so disappointed me last fight just trying to get by on sheer guts, heart and willpower the last fight. Overriding all of that though was a good amount of stupidity and ignorance. He basically just stood in front of Castillo and threw punches, taking more then he threw. He fought from the same angle the whole fight. He didn't have to much head movement. His chin wasn't even tucked. He was just squared up to Castillo taking punishment. I love the guy but that isn't how you win, and as much as I beleive that he can win this fight, I can't pick him. I'll make my boy prove me otherwise. I'll be rooting for him but pick him? Not unless he shows me that he is ready to do more then stand and throw.
Castillo KO but it wouldn't surprise me if Corrales won in similar fashion to the first fight (without the knockdowns of course).
