Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
I never saw the fight at the time, I was a lot younger and wan't following boxing as closely. I have seen the 20 sec clip on youtube with Zab doing the twist and shake, but have recently watched the whole fight on google video:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...52&q=zab+judah
Having watched this Zab quite clearly wins the first round and really rocks Kostya with an uppercut followed by a flurry and has him hi=olding on in round one. He also looks well ahead on hand speed, and Tszyu is having trouble landing cleanly.
Now obviously Tszyu did win on the night, but does anyone else think that if Zab had taken his time getting to his feet he would:
1) Been allowed to carry on
2) Survived a lot longer
3) Possibly beaten Kostya
Opinions would be great, Kostya fans and Zab haters please don't shoot me down I just want to see what people think!!

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
It's hard to say really mate, but i fell KT was working him out in the second round, and would have got to him and slowed him down resulting in him being KO'd like he was or the ref stepping in, thats just my opinion.
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
I think Zab would of probably ended up stretched comatose if it carried on.

I think the fight would have ended in a KO maybe a round or two later....KT was in his prime(the latter portion) for that fight and Beast that he was he would have found Zab's chin again....not like the 36 year old version of KT that fought Hatton....

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Probably not. Because as you can see even in the aftermath with Zab and Nady you can tell in Zab's eyes that he was completely gone and didn't know where he was. And this was minutes after and Zab was still dazed and confused, I doubt the one minute of time his corner would be given to revive him would have been enough unless Zab cleared his head for 4 rounds and held.
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Thats the thing, I really don't think he was gone. i think he just got up too quickly. and his head was still shaking. Ih he had stayed kneeling for 8 and then stood up he would have been alright IMO

Nady clearly said he was gone.
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
With Zab's attention span and stamina he would have KO'd inside of 6 anyways. Zab has good skills he just can not stay focused for a full fight. Going in against KT he knew to stay away from the right and he still got caught with it. If it would have gone on KT would have tracked him down and done the same thing.
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
If he would have got up, he would have been hit with the straight right again and he would have been KO'd eventually imo.
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
The thing is Tszyu figured him out so quickly and would eventually catch him again and also, the crowd was over excited about whatever Judah did in round 1,if you watch the replay carefully,he did not catch Tszyu cleanly and certainly did not shake him at all. He jumped on him and grazed him,Tszyu was leaning back,I remember the commentators pinpointing it.

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
At 05:23 on the above video Zab connects with a solid uppercut. Watch it! You cannot say that didn't connect, you see his head fly back
Not many people have answered the question, if he had taken his time would he have been allowed to continue?
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
It does not make sense to ask that question simply because how long after was Zab dazed by that shot from Tszyu? From throwing the stool, choking Nady, throwing tantrums etc,how many minutes after the fight was that? Of course the 1 min break between rounds would have made no difference and even if he took his time getting up,again,no difference.Zab won the first round by default,he threw punches,Tszyu did not.

You forgot one
4) Judah gets carried out on a stretcher

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Say Zab got through to round 3..
Tszyu would come out at the bell, swinging and would have banged Zab out within the first minute.
Zab was 'walking unconcious' when it was stopped - he disputed it so savagely because he could remember little of the KO.
I think Zab would have been really really hurt and knowing how he gets into his shell when he gets hurt, would have been clubbed to death with body shots until the chin poked out and Tszyu would have unscrewed his head.

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Should Nady have let the bout continue? Of course, and I hope in the same vain, chrisbird13, joins me in criticizing Richard Steele for stopping Barkley/HearnsI too early.
Anyone who ever saw it, knows full well, Tommy was toying with Barkley, and yet one flash :P knockdown and a couple of follow up punches, when Tommy got up, and Steele goes and stops the fight!!!!
Ridiculous ;)

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
ANYTIME YOU CANT CONTROL YOUR BODY MOVEMENTS I.E.; JUDAH'S LEGS KICKING OUT FROM UNDER HIM IN THE FIRST SECOND HE GETS UP AND THEN NOT EVEN REALLY PUTTING HIM HANDS DOWN TO BRACE HIMSELF WHEN THE SECOND FALL COMES; THE FIGHT SHOULD BE STOPPED...  AS TO WHETHER JUDAH COULD HAVE CONTINUED...  IT IS A MOOT POINT.  NADY MADE THE DECISION I WOULD HAVE MADE...  ZAB WAS TO STUPID TO TAKE THE COUNT(MAYBE NOT STUPID BUT TO DAZED TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE)THEREFORE IT NEEDED TO BE STOPPED.  IM SURE THATS NOT THE LAST TIME WE'LL SEE FRED ASTAIRE @ HIS BEST  ;D

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
If zab was given the time in between rounds to recover. He would have simply shut down. Let's say him leaning back with his hands down was all done for the purpose of showboating and he took his count got up, the bell rang and he had the rest in between rounds.
At the beginning of the next round, Tszyu would have picked up where he left off and continued to methodically stalk judah and wait for the next mistake while just hammering away. So if we were to give zab the benefit of the doubt and saying that he tightened his defense and didnt make that same mistake again.... would he have won the fight?
Sorry, he would have been battered like an onion ring for the next couple of rounds and taken the beating of his life. Its a fact that after getting rocked by someone, Zab shuts down and tries to finish the fight on his feet without assuming much if any risk after that. I might even go as far as to say his star would have burned out that night and he probably never wouldn't have made it as far as he had in his career. After fighters take beatings like that, they are never the same. That punch that put him on queer street and the stoppage is probably the best thing that happened to him when you consider him taking a gruesome beating, being stripped of his confidence and some of his mental competency or worse..as the alternative.

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
I think it's perfectly reasonable to assume that if Zab had been completely composed, stayed down on one knee, taken an 8 count and then rised tohear the bell, his corner could have worked on him and possibly he could have survived. If Floyd Mayweather for exampl had been hit like that by Tyszu he may well have managed to keep himself composed in that way and survive, similar to how Ali survived against Henry Cooper, and Diego Coralles survived against Castillo, with his clever spitting out of the mouthpiece.
These are two fighters who kept their wits about them when hurt.
Unfortunately Zab doesn't have that mindset and whenever he gets hurt his mind self destructs. Given that fact it would have been impossible for Zab (being Zab) to compose himself and gather his senses.
The ability to mentally take a punch and cope with intense pressure is an inate ability the same as having natural strength, a great chin, great movement etc, it's not something that can be learnt.
Just like Frank Bruno would drop his arms and sway haplessly before falling like a giant Redwood when caught, so Zab will ALWAYS lose when he gets hurt, simply because he cannot mentally cope with the pressure of being hurt. Round 7 with Carlos Baldomir proved that, he just lost it.
Zab will always lose it, it's not something you can train for.
So yes Tyzsu would have stopped him had the fight gone on ;)

Either that or Zab would have lost a decision by not doing other then survive.

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Peronally...I think that Zab coulda taken out Kostya & all of Australlia in a matter of seconds had he been allowed to continue.
**Please read all Australlian obituaries as Snakey's head just spontaneously combusted! ;D

Thats not cool, hamed doesnt deserve to be in the same sentence (even if crossed out) as tszyu ;D . I dont want kostya to come back, hes lost his desire and he lost it before the hatton fight. So if he aint for real about it then he should just retire and enjoy life with his family.

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Lost it before the Hatton fight ??? Tell that to poor Sharmba :( I'm guessing you mysteriously called his hotel and told him that ;) "Sharmba don't worry, Tszyu's desire has been gone since before you."

Nah he stated that he really didnt want to fight again after he beat sharmba then signed to fight hatton. He didnt state whether he had the desire to fight when he took on hatton. ;)

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Did you pick him to beat Hatton or not? ;D

Yeah i picked him to beat hatton, of course i did. Wish the bastard had of told me he lost his desire before the fight before he jumped in the ring then i wouldnt of expected tszyu to knock him out. ;D

Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Ther should be mo controversy about the Zab Kostya stoppage. I've not seen a fight in the last 15 years allowed to continue under those circumstances. Judah wasn't there after he got hit. He should have tagged out and let Kostya beat up on his fancub one by one to squash the bullshit controversy
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
They could fight 100 times and KT would do the same each and every time. And Zab would cry every time aswell! ;D
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
what are people going on about? Hatton beat tszyu fair and square and beat him bad, kszyu was the world champion so was still in his prime...
-
Re: Would Zab had won against Tszyu?
Some of you people just aren't using your head... say Zab did take the 8 count and didn't get up immediately. Then it goes another 5 rounds and Tszyu lands the big right yet again, and this time Zab is out clean with no chance of making it to his feet..... That would have robbed us of the Judah Shuffle!
 :discomonkey:
Be greatful for the moment in history we were allowed to witness
