Official 'Jose Luis Castillo should be banned from boxing' thread..........

This guy is a shady, shady individual.

The shit that he has pulled today, last time and who knows how many other times throughout his career cannot be tolerated. Corrales trained like a demon for this fight and now he's going to miss out on pay??

Does Castillo think that he can just walk off into the sunset to a megabucks showdown with Cotto or Hatton??

For all you know he may have tried his hardest to make 135 and his body just won't do it anymore. He just can't make 135 anymore. I don't think he cheated at all.

You see I don't think he doubted he could make the weight when he signed for the fight(was 138 or so for Reyes) But when you can't do it you just can't do it. The commission ahd someone check on him once a month when he trained to see how much he weighed and each time they came he had to make weight per month or they would call the fight(as in once a month he had to haev a weight he was below when they weighed him), and he passed all of those. If after all that including the monthly weigh ins and he doesn't make the weight, I doubt he cheated, his body can't do it.

no, if after all those monthly weigh ins that he passed he didnt make weight, it means he didnt try at the end. if we woke up the morning of weigh ins and saw he was 5 over (which is rediculous because he was 4 over on monday) he should have put on as many layers of clothes as possible and got his ass on a bike or something. He messed up bad and its his own fault any way you look at it.

The mere fact that he didn't even lose an ounce after a 2 hr. period to lose weight for a second weigh in proves he wasn't trying to lose the weight at all. The guy's a fraud.

I dont think he premeditated it, but im sure he had doubts when he signed the contract, but was blinded by dollar signs. He fooked up plain and simple. I hope Corrales gets compensated for every penny. Castillo needs to man up and not fight even if Corrales agrees to fight cause he knows he is too big and stong for him now.

JLC has really let me down....I expected better from him this time and i dont think its fair that he can just move on to bigger and better things before legitimately beating Corrales.

Yeah, this is some shat. Don't think Castillo should be banned or any of that radical shat. But he does not deserve to go on to a big payday mega fight with Cotto either. I say a suspension is in order. Plus he screwed himself pissin off his promoter so bad, now who is gonna promote him and take a risk on him? I like Castillo a lot, and think he is a great fighter, but if he came back after 2 hours and still could not lose 2 lbs, that aint right. Means he didn't want to fight, or something. I am no pro athlete, not by any stretch of the imagination but for a couple Mil, my ass could drop 2lbs in two hours I gurantee it. If I had to puke, and chug some ex lax and go run my ass off in a sweat suit I'd do it. Losing two lbs should have been nothing for Castillo.

He should be suspended from anywhere from 6 months to a year. And if he still gets to fight cotto or hatton in his next fight Corrales should get half off that future purse.

if he cant make the weight then he shouldnt sign up for the fight. he has had trouble in the past and deluding himself that he can make weight helps noone....

its very dissappointing, i have no qualms with him facing severe penalties for this....one time i can tolerate, but twice i cant....

But maybe he could have said something 4 weeks ago and given Corrales a chance to go up in weight also or to cancel the fight. I was going to have people over for this fight. Last time I had people over was for Calzaghe - Lacy...I wanted this one to be a bi less of a disappointment. Guess not.

What really gets to me about this whole thing is that the entire time JLC has been telling people to get off of his back about the weight issue, that he had it under control. UH what the hell happened? He himself said that on monday he was at 140, and he couldnt lose 5lbs in 5 days? I understand if you cant make weight anymore, but if he has been having problems with this weight since the Mayweather fight then his promoter is not looking out for his best interest. The Mayweather fight was in 2002 it has been almost 4years that he has been "having problems making this weight" IMO something is not right, either his people and or him, just plain shady.

He's cheated Diego Corrales a fight he has been training so hard for and he has cheated us fans who were thinking this could be yet another classic.On top of that,all throughout training etc in interviews,he kept on stating that making the weight would be no problem AND all he had to do was lose 2 pounds!! No matter who you are that is not that difficult!
I think he should be punished heavily too. However,I still see him fighting Cotto at the end of the year,maybe Arum will minimise his match fee or something?

Just a point, could Corrales claim loss of earning out of this. I think in law he has a case

Yeh i'm with starr on this one, i don't think he tried to cheat because at the end of the day the scales arnt guna lie. I just don't think he can make 135 anymore. He should be suspended for 6 months or so tho. I don't think permanantly revoking his licence is the answer...i mean Toney tested positive for steroids and he's stil got his licence.

Soi obviously the answer is to ban Castillo for 6 months, and then to confiscate his purse from the next fight and split it between everyone who had already paid up for the PPV, and send everyone down the pub on Castillo.

I think Corrales must have knocked the mathematical part of his brain out of kilter in that first fight - he can't subtract anymore. He thinks 140 is only a couple of pounds away from 135...

You know a week before a fight if you can do it or not, the trainer is as much to blame as He is. They were trying it on.

I think banning Castillo is a bit harsh, but the guy definitely shouldn't be suspended for 6 months to a year. If the guy can't make weight, fine, but the guy deceived a ton of people all week. Imagine all the people that were flying out to see the fight, they basically paid airfare, hotel costs, and expenses for nothing. Castillo invited a bunch of people over for dinner and when they got there, there was no dinner. Everyone should be mad at this guy.

If Castillo should be banned, Joan Guzman should never be allowed to lace them up again. Joan Guzman, far and away, is the most unreliable fighter I have ever seen.

This is a high profile fight and a high profile fighter, so it's getting more attention and it has, understandably, irked the fans who were looking forward to the fight. Let's not go overboard though. Should he be reprimanded? Of course. Banned? Pushing it a bit too far.

And are a fan of Pacquiao ??? And he can make 138 for Reyes(which means he intended to make 135 for the fight if Corrales hadn't gotten injured) So why would he cheat now? And HOW do you know that he knew he couldn't make weight the day he signed the contract? Mark Johnson made 115 for one fight and then weighed about 120 for the next one after hard training, is he a cheater too ::** Oh Its just easy for him just because he weighed less in his last fight ::** Again, its not that simple OR easy.

Castillo/Castillo's management were very unprofessional, it seems clear Castillo was possibly never going to get down to 135lbs.

But boxing history is full of fighters not making the weight required in the contract, it would in the present climate, set a very dangerous precedent to punish Castillo and his team in anyway.

There is a argument for saying as it is only 4lbs, perhaps Corrales should of gone ahead of with the fight, and been given a further financial reward as compensation. This is very often done in situations like this. It would give both fighters a pay day, neither are now not going to get, not to mention saving the promotors, TV and fans disappointment.

I think that Corrales should sue Castillo for loss of earnings.
