Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Firstly what happened to the site? Just got on now after trying all day! Good fight, big mouth is a tough little bastard but my boy Cotto was very impressive!Great jab, body work, combos and although Paulie won a few of the middle rounds that was entirely due to Cotto's inactivity, which any Cotto fan will tell you is normal(in every fight,he just sits back a few rounds). The commentary was awful,Foreman and those other2 morons missed some of the action and 1 guy said he had Paulie winning at one point!!
Paulie could not make the next day conference, that's how badly he was busted up but he made me a fan,he really is tough! I had it Cotto by 5,possibly 6.His defence ws very good,Paulie only caught him clean later in the fight.

I thought Cotto was fortunate to come away with the win. I had it level going into the last. Cotto dug deep and pulled out the 12th. By no means did Cotto win convincingly. Paulie had him in all sorts of trouble with his hand speed.

Err.......Paulie landed hardly anything clean,Cotto was jabbing beautifully, breaking him down to the body and the left hook did not miss all night. Paulie won a couple of the middle rounds but I can guarantee you are one of the few that had it so close!!Pulled out the 12th,he was systematically breaking Paulie down,11 and 12! Dude,I think you should go and watch the fight again. ???

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Paulie deserves big respect he said what he was gonna do and almost did it...
he'll be back... Cotto's matchmaker has a hard job to keep him unbeaten from here on in...
put him in with a puncher he struggles
put him in with a feather fist he struggles
on another note 2 pounds lighter for both fighters at the weigh-in stinks of scale tampering IMO
MOVE UP COTTO BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

STHU!!! Malignaggi made it a close fight with a broken nose and fractured jaw, how can you NOT respect that? Malignaggi is real!! He isn't a joke. Cotto was just the better fighter that night.

Please tell me how he struggled Mr. Boss sir(don't want to get my ass booted out of here!)?!? When did he struggle with big punchers?>? Pinto?Banged him,Torres? Knockdown was a push, and dropped him how many times? Cotto has shown he can fight fron foot, back foot, power punchers and now slick movers too. If and when Cotto and Hatton fight@147,I know who my money is on!!
I presume you did not see Cotto's combos, great D,jab and body work?!? The only reason Paulie is getting over hyped i because firstly even though he looks like a boyband member,he is tough and secondly,Cotto did not ko him...he just broke all his bones instead..

147,Cotto would be stupid to take it at 140.One can sense he wants to move up asap.

I don't think cotto can beat hatton at 140 or 147, but i think his best chance would be at 140.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
yeah bring it on it would be a classic and any weight... ricky has proved he can do welter ((not a great Welter)) but can make the weight and Cotto would be more effective at that weight so for me i'd like to see it at Welter to stop any excuses after the fight ;)

most people where picking Cotto to walk through this guy but Paulie's jab was fantastic...
scorecards where close for what was a mismatch before the fight... so for me it was a struggled.
he struggled against Ndou, Torres and Corley.
dont get me wrong Cotto is a good fighter for sure... just not the great he was touted at a few years ago ;)

Actually, I'm not. Without the flash knockdown, even the judges with the widest margin would have had only 3 points in it.
Sky also said 116-111 was far too wide. Paulie landed plenty of flush shots and hurt Cotto at least once. Just because Paulie was moe marked up does not mean that he ws being overwhelmed. He outboxed Cotto for much of the fight.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Paulie did well for himself. It was a good showing and he's got a ton of heart. But Cotto was brutal towards the end. Cotto vs Hatton, there's no reason why this fight shouldn't happen in November.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
I didn't get to see the fight...damn it.....it read like a good one though.... I'll wait a few days/weeks and HBO should have it on regular Cable...can't wait to watch it ...... PAULIE!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed Clydey, I had it the same and saw Cotto just snatching the last round for the win, draw without the knockdown which was nothing spectacular IMO. Malignaggi certainly made a fan out of me, I was picking him before the fight on gut instinct and he almost pulled it out, what a tough SOB!!! And he looks like he was developing power, he even rocked Cotto! (albeit only once and it was a bit of a flash connection but still).
If Cotto moves up to WW, Id say Malignaggi has a great shot at beating any other titlist at JW. He should beat either of Witter and Corley and I dont see anyone out there who could stop him if Cotto cant (on the basis that I think JCC is moving up to WW rather than JWW).

Let's see when Hatton v. Urkal is scheduled...........

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
I had Cotto by one round and overall he deserved to win. Say what you like about him, he stil manages to pull it out of the bag. For how much longer, i'm not sure tho because last night he didn't realy impress me. He looked slow and a bit ponderous at times and his power didn't seem to be all there. Stil he has been matched fairly tough for such a hyped prospect and i think if he fights at 147 in the future he wil be a much better fighter..wel much better then we have seen in the last 12 months.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Cotto would beat Hatton@147 imo,Hatton at 140 though but I don't see Cotto fighting@140 again.Cotto did not struggle in any way shape or form against Ndou or Corley,Corely wobbled him once,Corley also wobbled Floyd, was Floyd struggling too??Ndou....you're joking.Well, the US commentator said it was a wide margin, you people are getting confused because Cotto did not knock him out and because Paulie was tough. You are trying to tell me this was as close as Collazo and Hatton,no way.

:coolclick:
Paulie, did do a lot better than I thought and surprised me with his toughness, I scored it 7 rounds to 5 with the knockdown well...not as close of a fight for me, Cotto kept it at his pace and controlled most of the fight.
Paulie is gonna have to really work on his strength when he tried to trade he got whooped, when jumped in and out and boxed he had a lot of success.
I scored Hatton/Collazo the same way as the Lederman scorecard if not for the flash knockdown by his first punch
that fight would have been a draw IMO.
Cotto has to go up to 147 I think Hatton would be a good way for him to move up, I also think Cotto will be faster
at 147 because he will be putting far less strain on his body to make weight. At 147 Cotto takes Hatton without question for me.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
The Game I think you need to give Paulie more credit. He did have your boy in plenty confusion at times, And it was a very close fight. Admit it, it was a lot closer then you thought it would be, and YES Cotto did struggle. But he pulled it out regardless. Closest fight of his career.
-
Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Thought it was quite an exciting fight. Last couple of rounds decided the result. Must say before the fight I had no time for Paulie with all his talking, but I now have a lot of respect for him as he put on a much better show than i imagined he would. His face was some mess by the end but he did himself proud with a very gritty performance. Cotto did well too. Not his most convincing performance but we all know fighters have their bad nights and perhaps this was one or maybe Paulie was as good as he said he was.
Either wasy the fight was good and its good to get the sport back on track after last weekends fiasco. A good night for Boxing all round.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Cotto fan, I'm not gonna try to talk reason with you.
But ya boy had trouble from the 3rd round on.
-
Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
Congratulations to Cotto on getting the win in a closely contested fight with the young malignaggi.
I had never seen the kid fight before but he was very entertaining and if he hadn't hit the canvas then it may well have been too tough too call.
Malignaggi has very quick hands, but he punches light, Cotto is a heavy hitter and looks strong but he seems to be as slow as a dump truck.
God help Cotto if he gets in the ribg with Mayweather or Hatton, I don't believe Cotto has anywhere near the speed or guile to catch mayweather and he doesn't press enough to cause mayweather trouble; with Hatton he has more of a chance but I don;'t think that Cotto can fight on the back foot and thats where he'll be against a Hatton storming forward. Also hatton can take a real shot, Cotto has the jury still out on his chin.
It's like Saddo said, a good result for Cotto but far from convincing against a small fellow who hits light.
I think they will have real trouble keeping Cotto undefeated from here on in because he needs big fights now instead of fighting little known fighters.
Malignaggi showed massive heart after the early head clash led to a cut on his eye and then cam through a knockdown. He showed excellent hand speed and he seemed to be able to jab Cotto in the face at will.

if magalini was as good as he cliamed he wouldnt have been touched, the fool got DUFFED up all kinds of ways, and he doesnt even know why some fighters keep thier lead hand down, he keeps it down... BUT ISNT A COUNTER PUNCHER, DOESNT BLOCK WITH HIS SHOULDER, AND DOESNT EVEN USE HIS FOREARM TO STOP BODY SHOTS

COTTO LITERALLY BROKE HIS!!! :D :D :D

Paulie deserves alot of credit for his performance last night and he made a real fight of it against a top class opponent. Fair play....Cotto just landed the harder punches and had that extra bit of class.

Well said. He definitely said he was gonna break his face and he damn sure got his broken up real good. It's funny how I read posts of so many people say they didn't have an opinion cause they never seen him fight or not enough of him and then the same people picked him on the count of his big mouth.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
I just watched the fight, my first impression after reading everybodies posts and watching the fight is that Paulie is one tough SOB. The kid has a top chin and some good skills. But I think his lack of power is going to hold him back, keep him as a fringe contender. He could possibly win a title somewhere down the line, but I cant see him dominating.
I thought that Cotto dominated the fight. The rounds that Paulie won were because of Cotto's lack of activity in those rounds. I felt Cotto gave him those rounds more than Paulie won them. When Cotto was busy he clearly won the rounds with effective punches and controling the fight.
Lot of respect for Paulie, but he was outclassed by Cotto.

I agree COMPLETELY. On every point.

Re: Cotto Paulie-post your thoughts here
I give Paulie his respect for toughness but he has to receive some flack for talking so recklessly. He even got people to predict that he was going to win with his mouth alone. Since his mouth wrote a check his a** couldn't cash he has to take what's coming.

Sorry to hear you missed the fight. LOL
Actually, you'll find that you're in the minority on this one, mate. Paulie ran Cotto very close in that fight.

Some people just don't like to admit they're wrong about their predictions. It's ok, I saw the fight so I know the truth. Paulie has been calling Cotto out for years now and I'll admit that as a Cotto fan I didn't like the matchup because of Paulies speed and skill but all that showed me is that Cotto brings more to the table than even I thought. He crushed him. If Paulie robbed you b4 the fight you would not be able to pick him out of a lineup afterward. He was a little more busy, but all he was hitting was Cotto's gloves most of the time. Cotto had him holding on for dear life the last few rounds and that tells you that he was doing well enough to almost win. LOL, funny

Nope. Paulie gave Cotto issues. Malignaggi was good but Cotto was the better man that night. Much like Mundine Kessler ;)
