A great fight that never happend "Bowe vs-Lewis"

How does this one play out , lets say in 1993?

Bowe just beats Holyfield via 12th R Un Dec. in fight of the year !
Lennox Lewis is coming off a brilliant 2nd R KO of Donovan Ruddock

This is kind of strange but hers my feelings, I honestly believe prime holyfield beats a prime lewis he could outbox him if he fights smart, i honestly beleive lewsi kos a prime bowe, and I honsetly believe bowe is a harder match for holy styles. Bowe gave holy problems because he could fight well inside against evander and had enough boxing ability outside to take evander away from his game, lewis has a great right hand and is tall i beleive lewis would ko bowe, i just see bowe eating right hands and getting hurt,

Lewis beat Bowe in the olympics in 1988 BUT

I beleive that prime Bowe in '92 would have easily beaten Lewis at his best. If not on the outside then he could have taken it inside and he would have definitely beaten him there. He had all of the tools to do it and he had more of a chin than Lewis but Bowe got fat and lazy and when the time came.......he just quit. One of his trainers was interviewed a while back and he talked about how towards the end Bowe wouldn't take training seriously and how he just ate crap when he was supposed to be in camp.

If a guys heart isn't in it anymore then his heart isn't in it anymore. I know that the Lewis fans love to point out how Bowe surrendered the belt, but if you could have put a fighters heart in Bowe, Lewis' would have had another loss on his record.

Oh well could have, should have, would have.......fact remains that he quit.........though I really don't believe it was out of fear as much as it was laziness.

I take Bowe. Watching Lewis over his career I always wondered how he would fair against a fighter of equal or greater skill that he didn't enjoy a height and reach advantage over. Lewis was the epitomy of "fighting tall". I thought Grant might give him a test, man was I wrong. But Vitali showed us that if Lewis doesn't have reach and height advantage and you can force him to mix it up you can be successful. I think Bowe was a more complete fighter than Lewis other than being a lazy heartless sack of shat(I know thats a lot). So if Bowe trains hard and shows up with the right mindset I'd pick him to win with a late KO or UD. On a side note I thought Holy won the 2nd fight with Lennox and so did the AP press and Ring Magazine.

A prime Riddick Bowe had a hell of a lot of potential....that form of Bowe could have beaten Lewis IMO.

I never really liked either one of these boxers but if the fight was in 92 or 93 I would have favored Bowe. Bowe was solid at that time and Lewis was still green. It seemed like Lewis got better with age and developed into a monster, but in 93 he was not ready for Riddick Bowe that is why he did not fight him. Prime on Prime I like Lennox Lewis (Prime was later that Bowe even though close in age)

You guys are 100% correct. Lewsi destroyed Rudduck who at that time was just as dangerous as Bowe. Riddick Bowe knew even back then that Lewis had his number . If it did happen I see a Lewis right hand ending it early

Everybody thought Klitscko was winning the fight including Emmanuel Steward who was Lennox Trainer. He wobbled Lewis twice. Nasty cut and all Klitscko was bringing the fight two him. That's why he didn't want to fight Klitscko again.

It doesnt matter as he couldnt sustain it . Tua was trailing to Maskaev before knocking him out . Do we accuse Tua of running form a reamtch with Maskaev.

VK got Lewis at his worst and still couldnt last past 6 rounds . His face got ripped to shreds and yet again he was retired on his stool like he was against Chris Byrd . The man just didnt have what it takes . As the bell sounded to end the 6th Lewis was on the verge of stopping him anayway , VK couldnt win cuz hed landed his best shots and Lewis smiled through em . When Lewis started landing his uppercut though Vitali was falling around and hanging on . We saw his chin wasnt that great in his next fight when he was back pedalling in fear away from a 40 year old retired golfer . Then Danny retired him ;)

Dude at least be realistic about it. VK was winning. The ref stopped the fight. Lennox didn't "stop him". It was a bullshit way to win. It definitely should have been a rematch. However since he didn't fight again it is excusable. If he would have fought someone else it would have been total garbage. Lennox was just as tired as VK and they were both trading heavy shots. It was on line with Hearns Hagler being stopped by that cut rather than a ko.

Either you love Lennox Lewis or you extremely hate VK. Either way I disagree. A techical stoppage because of a cut is different then a KO so I can't by into the Tua analogy and his rematch with Maskeav. Another thing is that VK was ready to continue fighting it was the doctor who stopped the fight. Lennox was down on all three scorecards but I will admit the fight was competitive. The heavyweight division has been garbage since Lewis left. The division as well as the fans needed a rematch and Lennox let everybody down. You saying that he took VK shots with a smile is not true unless he was smiling while his leg's where wobbling. After the fight Lennox told Larry Merchant that he hit very hard. When he raised his hand in victory the whole crowd booooooeeedddd him. I just cant believe you don't by into the best match the heavyweight division can produce, and you think he doesen't deserve it. What does the guy have to do. Since you like anologies let me give you one- Vargas Vs Mosley was stopped on technical terms after a very close fight, niether fighter was dominating it was even. Your going to tell me that Vargas does not deserve a rematch, he does that's why he is getting it.

The ref stepped in once the old man ran out of gas to save the crowd from further punishment . As for Danny Williams . Sanil Sam did a better job than VK . Hell even Michale Sprott almost equalled it but the difference is Danny came in shape against Sprot he was too fat against Vk . As for the Mosley anaolgy , no he doesnt have to give Vrags a return , he beat him fair and square . Why should he be punished cuz Vargas' face couldnt atke his shots . Its his own good will that a return is happening . He doesnt owe a rematch just as Lewis doesnt owe the guy he beat anything . The money was adequate so the champ made the right decision .

I agree with Mucho on this Vitali - Lennox thing .. They let that fight go and Lewis is in real trouble i think he was fading fast. IMO

No question in my mind that Lewis was far too good at his prime for anybody else in the heavyweight division maybe ever. He would have beaten Holyfield or Bowe badly if he came into the fight in shape during his prime... He was as fast as Holyfield but with a longer reach, and stronger than Bowe... He did have a good chin, and always had, but both of these guys could have taken him out if they landed cleanly and if he wasn't in shape. Unfortunately for them this fight would be far too big for him to make such a mistake and he would beat either one.

look man...I personally didn't think Lewis won the 2nd fight against Holy. But even if you did believe he won; the more approriate statement is that he tried not to lose for 12 rounds and won a very unspectacular almost ruiz like fight against a still very capable but by no means prime Evander. I disagree that he was stronger than Bowe as well. Lewis not having a size and reach advantage over Bowe would force him to mix it up, and Bowe would have won the fight on the inside in my opinion.

man I think you need to rethink using the word FACT. I'll agree with you that it is factual that Lewis won the fight and that there is nothing controversial about winning on cut stoppages. But when you are the HW champ of the world and win a fight on cuts that you are losing 4 rounds to 2 and then refuse a rematch it makes you look one thing ...scared regardless of the truth. The fact that Vitali held in the sixth makes little or no difference. Both of the guys were dropping hard punches and both fighters clinched several times when they got hit. So to say he started holding is as factual as saying Lewis was holding all night. Lewis smiled after getting hit? So did David Reid everytime he got up off the mat against Tito and so have countless other fighters when they just got hurt. Yes Lewis won the sixth round but was losing the fight so...no he in fact was not incontrol. He was the in the fight of his life and losing it. Every Lewis nuthugger cries about how out of shape he was. He was training for a championship fight, its not like the guy had just come off of vacation. and its not like the fight went 10-12 rounds. It went 6 rounds for crying out loud. I'm pretty sure Lennox could get in the ring today and give us 6 good rounds. He wasn't fatigued b/c he was SO out of shape.
