Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
:D What a War!
Who Would Win?
For Me.....
Vargas, IF and thats a very big IF, he doesnt go to war straight away and uses his boxing ability, Which he does have people, then I think he would wear Mayorga down, and Vargas can bang, so he has to fight the Oscar fight.
I think Mayorga has nothing left to offer, and has little to no defence, Tito and Oscar have ruined him, and although you could say the same about Vargas, I think his heart is one of the biggest out there.
I take Vargas by Late KO or Unanimous points....
If it goes to the trenches early, your guess is as good as mine....
Would I like to See the Fight?
Not on PPV, but maybe on a supercard.
It could easily be on PPV, and a main event, and it most probably would be, but I doubt they would get the buyrate.
So it could be part of a double header, or the undercard of a massive bill....
*Goes Into Day Dream Mode*
Main Event....
"The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya v "Pretty Boy" Flloyd Mayweather
Undercard.....
"Ferocious" Fernando Vargas v "El Matador" Ricardo Mayorga
Thing is, Mayorga and Vargas press conference would most likely hear them trashing Oscar....
HAHA!
Anyway I really would like to see this fight, and Im sure all the other tear em up boxing fans would.
What Ya Think?
;D

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
Both of these guy's are shot fighters. They have nothing left. And on top of that Vargas is damaged goods because of his back. This would not be a war cause neither fighter can bang like they use to. But if this was 2003 it would be similiar to Ward-Gatti.

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
If Vargas is as shot as everyone thinks, he wouldnt be put in the ring with Moseley.
He has been hurt and has had a lot taken out of him, but he still has something to give.
Trust me Vargas isnt as finished as everyone thinks... :lickish:

They put him in the ring with Mosley because he is a shot fighter as well. Those are two fighters way behind their prime. Vargas hand speed has diminished so badly that in the Mosley fight he had to stay on the inside and close, no longer effective from the outside. The beatdown by Tito was bad enough but the accident was even worse. Mosley best day's are way behind him also, (See my thread on the Mosley Headbutt)

Then if there all shot there all at a level, but there still gonna be PPV, so people still think they have it lft to give, therefor, they still are at the top level, shot or not!
Hey I'm Rhyming! ;D

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
just read my sig you know who I'll pick ;)
Anyway, I think Mayorga would since Vargas is open for those looping shots that Mayorga throws. Same kind of right hands.

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
I was pulling for that fight about a year ago. Would've been a good one. Now I doubt it happens. If so it will be in a year or two when they are both really on the downside. However given the styles and attitudes of both fighters I think it would be good no matter what. I would definitely like to see it.

true, but to similarly shot fighters might still have one helluva fight!!!!!!!!

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
Vargas already had his chance to fight Mayorga when Mayorga had the belt and pussed out. Remember the Larry Merchant interview after the Castillejo fight? Larry: "Fernando now you aren't gonna go chasing some belt are you?" Vargas: "No, No.." Instead Mayorga fought Oscar and got his ass beat unfortunately. And Vargas fought Mosley and tried to out wrestle him rather than fight him. Now Mosley is wastin his time with another fight with Vargas. After which I think Vargas will retire, or may fight Mayorga, but probably retire, this 2nd Mosley fight will be a good pay day, which is all he is really after these days I think. Now if Vargas from the Tito or Oscar fights fought Mayorga from the Lewis and Forrest fights, that would have been a Great fight! Might even have to give Vargas the edge there. He has always been bigger and a better boxer.

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
This would actaully be a very good fight....Vargas needs to stand back and not trade with Mayorga or he getting KTFO.

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
THE BATTLE OF THE BUMS - That lose everytime they step up against at least equal competition. I'd hope for a 12 round DRAW.

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
I see Mayorga winning,Vargas has never impressed me much and I hate his fake bad boy attitude. The only thing I can say for him is that he has a lot of heart. As for the fight,I think Mayorga would hand out an ass whooping,Vargas just stands there, his defence is not that great and does he ever throw a combo?? I'm not a big fan of either but I do find Mayorga more entertaining than Vargas.

They ain't bums. Vargas defeated Yory Boy Campas (when he wasn't too bad), Raul Marquez and Ike Quartey. The latter being a damn good fighter. Mayorga KO'd both Andrew "six Heads" Lewis and Vernon Forrest. He also beat Cory Spinks and got robbed. As well as beating Spink's rival, Michelle Picarillo for the WBC belt. I'm beginning to think the only thing you make sense on is James Toney at HW.

Hulk, Face it. They are both bums when it comes to winning big fights. True enough.. they both have a few (and again, I emphasize "few") good wins, but what happens when they face someone of at least equal or better caliber? Answer: They can't wn the big fights.
DeLaHoya KO Mayorga
Trinidad KO Mayorga
Winky Beat Vargas
Shane Mosley Beat Vargas by KO
Trindad KO Vargas
DeLaHoya KO Vargas
Especially Trinidad and DeLaHoya can both tell you about these big mouths.

So they are both bums because Delahoya and Trinidad beat them?(and Shane in Vargas' case)
hmm... then I guess James Leija is also a bum because he lost to both of them by TKO too right ::** And Gatti is a bum for knocking out Leija which makes Mayweather a bum for beating Gatti right? ::**
Thomas Hearns isn't a bum for losing his two hugest shining moments is he? And against those fighters of the era who are HOF bound its not a shame to lose to them, and you shouldn't be called a bum because of it.

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
The key to great fights is match making… Ward - Gatti is a great example. 2 fighters on the same level. Mayorga is not as technical and skilled a Vargas, but he brings awkwardness, and determination, Both guys like to bring it.. it’s a good match-up !

excellent point........neither one of those guys are bums for reasons that starr listed. cc for you someday (when i can do so)
also.........
i feel that both of those guys have plenty left in the tank
vargas has as much if not more than mosely (i thought he was starting to take the fight till his eve swelled up to the size of a grapefruit)
and mayorga got stopped by an oscar who looked REAL good considering the layoff
i would like to see the winner of mosely/vargas fight mayorga and maybe the winner of that fight mayweather/delahoya
my prediction:
mayweather/vargas 07/11/07
mayweather tko 11
(vargas's corner stops the fight)
i guess im getting ahead of myself though

Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
Plain and simple.. Mayorga and Vargas are C-Class Fighters! Put them now along the lines with Arturo Gatti.
-
Re: Fernando Vargas v Ricardo Mayorga
I think Vargas would win late on in a barn-burner.
