Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
The problem with the Heavyweight Division Nobody has any consistency .

Re: Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
Samuel Peter is the most exciting heavyweight in my judgement, however, he could improve on certain critical aspects of his style; you are correct. Wladimir Klitschko is a classy fighter and individual. How many times does one see a fighter with an earned PhD (with dissertation) in the professional ring? Well, his brother, I guess. ::** They are both family men, articulate and gentlemanly; that speaks for well the division too. One cannot avoid noticing Nikoloai Valuev at 7", 223 lbs. He is currently 44-0; he is educated, soft-spoken and has a devastating uppercut (ask Etienne and Beck). Finally, young Notre Dame football standout, and captain, a true scholar-athlete, Tommy Zbikowski, has quite a following and some strength and skills as demonstrated at MSG last Saturday night; if he came down to cruiserweight, he would have a fine boxing career.
All in all, the heavyweight division is most interesting and promising. If one is only interested in truculent fighters, watch Valuev, I sense he is getting a little mean!

Re: Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
The problem is not consistancy, fighters on all levels lack consistancy the problem is we have 4 title holders and none of the top level guys will fight each other if I was even close to the top of that division I would be calling out ANYONE and EVERYONE and calling them chickenshit or say they were hiding behind their promoter.
If the title holders and top tier guys fought each other we'd have a great division. Look at the 60's and 70's the so called "Golden Era" of heavyweights had Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Norton, Lyle, Liston, Terrell, Chuvalo, Bonavena, etc not fought each other it would have been boring too. The fights meant something because titles and title shots were at stake now John Ruiz, James Toney, Kevin McBride, etc get title shots for doing NOTHING.

Excellent point. but I still say the majority of Today’s Heavyweights look green, slow and out of shape these days. the lack of sustained action , combinations. that’s something that I see missing now . But like you say if the top guys were to fight each other , maybe that would promote better conditioning and training habits - Thanks for the reply

Re: Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
Personally...I'm okay with the heavies right now...as long as they all try to match up against Wlad. ;D

Wlad will have the lock down for awhile because he wants to be the champ not just win to get a belt....that's the difference....they want to win and Wlad wants to DEFEND that is why the Hw division fell apart...most of these guys are just content to win and if they lose after they have the title oh well at least they won...which is why most suck balls....but Wlad actually wants to Unify along with Valuev...it could/should get exciting here in the near future for the HW division....

Re: Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
I agree, it will get exciting soon! :o

That exactly what it feels like . That void between Holmes and Tyson , its just a slower more methodical version of that period. at least the lighter weights are very competitive and entertaining

Sure Corrie Sander handled Wlad as did Brewster.. Sure a prime Witherspoon would be in today’s mix. no doubt.

Re: Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
if sam peter drops about 15 pounds and learns how to actually move as he comes in he will dominate

tim w? yea , he was a 6'5" "giant" for that time. these days? nothing special size wise. that time between larry and mike? those guys would be cannon fodder for the current HWS (just my thoughts).

Re: Todays Lack Luster Heavyweight Divison
I just wish Wlad would stop that holding s**t. He's too skilled to be doing that and that's the only way to know if he is indeed the best we have now. I'm a fan but I can't keep defending that. I still think he Peter would have knocked him out without the holding. He still almost did. The refs need to start taking initiative cause I've been seeing some ugly fights as of late.

That holding crap is for the birds ! its an illegal tactic right in there with a low blow. today’s Refs are too quick to break fighters. . remember mills lane " fight out of there" the short Heavies have a huge disadvantage now days . this excessive holding needs to dealt with. Ref should Break---- Break ----Break ----One point here-! ! ! -------. then that crap would stop and we would have some fights !

Watch that Peter fight if you haven't seen it and then tell me. That was actually worst than Ruiz. He was actually reaching out to grab him when he saw him get within 4 feet. If not he pushed him back about 5 or 6 feet when he got close. It was a despicable and cowarly performance. Don't buy into the hype. Boxing has rules. Otherwise it would just be wrestling or ufc. I said this before but it's a valid point, When Lennox Lewis fought Henry Akinwande, Lewis was beingbeing held and not as blatantly as Peter was and they DQed Akinwande. He was called a coward and a joke but Wlad did it and was glorified for a so called great performance. That's a damn shame.

i HONESTLY dont see it that way. tieing up a guy is one thing. holding on for dear life another. its really up to the ref to start handing out warnings. but if you want to see straight up "street fights" pro boxing isnt your game.

My point exactly. The problem is that the networks try to build guys up to make money and people believe everything they hear. It kills me when someone says , even the commentators said this and that. That's why god blessed us all with vision so we don't have to rely on other people to see thinks for us and tell us what we should think about things.

Maybe it's not your game cause I myself am a boxer and part time trainer. My boxing skills are still developing but I've always had the punch. And the worst thing I hate is when a guy feels my power and holds on like like he's my damn prom date.

do you really want to see boxing become "mike tyson knock out" nintendo style? i dont. im not say holding is good , but tying up your oppent when you need too? well thats the "sweet sceince"...(hell , they could have ended "the rumble" cause ali wasnt really doing much until the end).

when that happens bring your elbows in shift sideways make yourself smaller and shoot upper cuts down the pipe. Remember when they trying to hold they cant hurt you! but you have to react very fast and not agree to the hold ! If these shorter Heavies were in better condition 218-230 range they would be better able to do this with more frequency . IMO
