until he gets hit.....he has never been hit by a true banger.....Rahman doesn't count....Quote:

but again thats a big IF
We all know James is higly talented and gets by without much effort since he is so gifted...As he gets older he is gonna have to put more work into his conditioning or he is gonna be in serious trouble when he gets in there with a true power puncher he is gonna have to up his workrate and outbox these guys instead of lying on the ropes and getting tooled on
YES! I think Peter can take this one.
What in the hell are you talking about, Rahman doesn't count... THat's all Rahman can do is punch...and he hit Toney with some big right hands... Peter basically sucks, imo... He is a sloth, Toney would make him look absolutely silly... I think if Wlad fought him again he could KO him fairly quickly, and I think that was a piss poor performance by Wlad in the first fight, people give him major props for that win... I see it as him almost being KOed by a total amatuer who had nowhere near the same physical tools, and isn't even on the same planet in terms of skill... I mean really, Wlad handled him just fine except for the 4 times Peter landed a punch on him, Toney can handle punches just fine, so he would beat him easier, imo, because he wouldn't have the mental baggage that Wlad did in that fight... I mean that may as well have been Wlads pro debut all over again he was just there to shake off his nerves and get comfortable.Quote:

I'll say it again if that fight ruined Taylor and he wasnt going to be the same, then he should have at least had a chance to finish the last few seconds and claim his much deserved victory...What a heart breaking robbery...The man earned it and went through hell and to have it ripped away from him is unexcusable IMO
he's slick I'll give you that....but once Peter drops one of those monster Hambones upside his head/body/arms....JFAT is going to be in serious trouble....Quote:

not so much anymore though
WHAT?!?! Hell yeah, this is a fight that I wanna see. I'm sorry guys but Peter is gonna KO Toney. Yeah, Toney is great blocking and slipping punches with his shoulders, but when you have arguably the hardest hitter P4P hitting you on your shoulders, Toney will wear down and get caught.
exactly...risking death for that is not worth it.....Quote:

Doubt that this happens...but if it does...JFAT probably wins this one.
NOOOOO!!!!!! ...james is taking too much risk for it not being a title shot
Turn about's fair play.Quote:

I started a new thread on this topic for everyones opinions
LMAO LMAO LMAO LMAO are we talking about the same Samuel Peter thats he throws shots from the side angle which is where James blocks the punches? You beat James Toney with straight shots not looping ones ;D
peter hasnt shown any real development since the wlad fight and toney is just too slick and able to overcome peters lack of skills....
a one sided toney decision IMO....
Toney is 37 years old, and never been known for his discipline. He ain't coming into this fight in shape. I think Peter's gonna walk straight through his punches, via Byrd/Ibeabuchi.
He'll get caught being off balance.
IF Toney can come in in half way decent shape then he boxes Peters ears off. But if he comes in like he did against Rahman then its a toss up with the edge going to Toney. Peter just does not have the skills to stay with anybody with good movement and defense.
That's a rather large "If".Quote:

Peteri is one dimensional that is for sure, but he has great power, chin and heart. Unless he improves his fundamentals he is probably gonna be a Tua or Shavers type of guy in the HW divsion for the next few years. The kind of guy who could KO anyone, but can be outboxed. I think this is a dumb move for Peter, he needs a guy like Mccline, Maskeav(after he fights Rahman), or Lance Whitaker or someone. Maybe Monte Barret. But James Toney is a master boxer and it's gonna be a tuff fight for Peter, less James comes in at 300 lbs or some ridiculous fukin thing.Quote:

Even a lazy Toney, like the one who fought Rahman, would probably beat Samuel. He comes forward and presses the action, and has little or no defence. James will have a field day.
Of course, some might say well Rahman went forward with Toney and had success, but Rahman is a very fit, very athletic heavyweight, and he was determined as hell. Peter can't maintain that kind of workrate.
And of course I doubt Toney will come in to this bout in as bad shape as he was for Rock.

he has to realize how important this fight is and he has to know that he needs to BOX well for 12 rounds cuz if sam peter catches him with a good shot hes gonna go down.
i like toney by lopsided ud
Everybody thought that with the Rahman fight too, and he still came in FAT. I am not sure that Toney has the discipline anymore to stay in good fighting shape.Quote:

His weight has fluctuated widely his whole career, especially after the Jones Jr. loss.
168 to 175 to God knows what, back down, Cruiser, heavy...
He knows he was fortunate not to lose the Rahman fight, and hopefully he'll get back on track. I know what you mean though. As he ages it must be getting tougher for him. And now that he's a HW he doesn't HAVE to make a specific weight, so while he will train to bring it down, in the back of his mind he must be thinking 'I don't need to hit a target, I'm a heavyweight'

this is make it or break it for fat boy
hes not gonna win this fight if he comes in looking the way he did in the rahman fight
One thing I hate about Toney is that he is good enough to take over the division if he got his weight back down to 220lbs or lower. He has tremendous skills and can outbox 99% of the heavies out there.
True.. He's just been lazy. Even at his age, Toney could beat them.Quote:

This would be a stupid move on his part.
He has way more talent than Baby Huey, which isn't saying a lot, but he doesn't have the power to knock Baby Huey out and he can't allow himself to get hit once or else he will go to sleep!
Totally dumb matchup for Toney.
Peter's just gotta throw a lot of punches and go to the body, hit Toney's arms, shoulders, sides, anywhere and then maybe James will gas out and get caught late. But otherwise its a good style matchup for James, Peter doesn't have a jab like Rahman's that can win him rounds just on activity, and he only throws looping punches, and usually one at a time. If he just headhunts with one punch at a time he'll be missing all night.
As far as Toney coming in at a lighter weight, I'll believe it when I see it. Being a big Toney fan its just tiresome how little he cares about his career in between bouts.
