Bring back 15 round fights
Does it seem when 15 round championship fights were around there were less controversies, mainly because someone had a better chance of getting knocked out, that things were better and more exciting?

Re: Bring back 15 round fights
15 round fights should of never been changed to 12. Those extra 3 rounds would change the outcome in alot of fights.

Actually no I won't say anything bad about the British now, but had a few too many and well the less said the better.

back when safety was not a concern 15 rds was the norm....but since we grew brains and decided to protect the fighters and increase their longevity 12rds is more than enough.....heck why not drop back down to the 8oz gloves again while we're at it.....how about we just go back to unlimited rounds and don't stop until we have someone KO'd or quits....come on people!!!!!!!! 12rds is plenty.............

Re: Bring back 15 round fights
I like this...in championship bouts...forces the fighters to condition themselves more.

the only difference in 12 and 15 rds is heart not conditioning ....and unrepairable damage to the fighters..... someone has to step in and be the voice of reason.....It will never go back to 15 rds...

Boxing is hard on a man whether it's 12 rounds or 15 rounds. I know that they did some study about when a boxer takes the most damage and I know that they said it was in the last three rounds but tell that to the guys who fought Tyson back in the day.
It's all relative to whom your opponent is. IMO the study was put forth and the max rounds changed to get all of the activists to back off.

Re: Bring back 15 round fights
I voted yes.
Two Tactical Fighters need to engage in a war of attrition for the public to pay them any respect ::**
-
Re: Bring back 15 round fights
In MAJOR title fights (maybe have the state commission determine what's major or not) then I agree with 15 rounds.
-
Re: Bring back 15 round fights
Yes, but only for World Championship fights; which means multiple (major alphabet crap) fights.
But I doubt it will ever happen, indeed sooner or later, the longest bouts will be 10 rounders IMO.

Agree with the both of you 100%. We would have much clearer views in all of Taylor's last 3 fights, Barrera Morales, ODLH Trinidad to name a few. There would be less controversies I believe as its easier to swing a fight one way with bad judgin with less rounds.

That would just make boxing a complete joke.

Eh...I honestly don't see that happening. I would see a return of the 15 rounders before 10 rounders.

I hope you are right, but I doubt it.
You cannot fit a 15 rounder into a TV hour...
You can a 12 round, and even easier a 10 rounder. Plus if you bring in 10 round World Title fights, you can spin it, by say you are making the sport safer.
Like I stated, I think it is only a matter of time, before the 12 round title fight will be no more. No one thought the 15 rounder would go in the late 70s, then came Mancini/Kim....
The WBC and the BBB of C, began 12 round title fights, and the EBU, WBA and IBF eventually followed suit.

Re: Bring back 15 round fights
I'd at least like to see 13 or 11 rounds just so there is less chance of a draw
-
Re: Bring back 15 round fights
Having 15 round fights again is a horrible idea. Aside from the fact that there is a larger chance of brain damage through longer periods of fighting, the fights slow down dramatically in those late rounds. What I mean is that they become boring. It becomes less of a boxing match and more of a marathon. Why is that a good thing?
-
Re: Bring back 15 round fights
i think 12 rounds is just right.

Agreed, having an even number of rounds leaves too much chance of a draw occuring, which is just an anti climax for everybody!!

Re: Bring back 15 round fights
For safety they should bring back same day weighins. Thats the problem at the moment fighters weighing in the day before, dehydrating dangerously to make false weights. Most not being able to hydrate properly, extreme dehydration and it takes the body 4 days to properly hydrate its dangerous in the extreme. The governing bodies should act.

This was actually more dangerous because fighters were so dehydrated so close to the fight.

Re: Bring back 15 round fights
how about 13. it's an extra 3 minutes of fighting but 6 minutes less dangerous than 15, and it's an odd number.

I agree. I voted to bring back 15. I always thnk about it when I am watching a close fight. I voted with my heart though. My brain says 15 is too much.

Its common sense really.
Knowing they would only have to fight hours later, fighters would d=drop less weight than now. If fighters entered the ring in the state they turn up to weigh ins now, they would never expect themselves to stand up in a strong wind let alone win a fight.
For example look at the pics of Cotto at the weigh in and the fight. You think if it was a same day weigh in Cotto would of turned up like he did for a day before weigh in and try to fight like that only a few hours later. Even in a sport with a high number of uneducated competitors, you wouldnt find many people that would try that.
-
Re: Bring back 15 round fights
Tuck the reason they stopped 15 rounders was the fear of dehydration they dropped it to 12 to try and stop it. By doing it they have made it worse, and a bigger danger. Im not going to give a talk on Human anatomy, just trust me, the body cooling system doesnt work when dehydrated, thats the danger all the time Cobras got the right idea. Why is it in top Heavyweight bouts, who take the heavier shots, the damage is lesser than the lesser weight classes, I think its because they dont make weight. Ive seen things you wont beleive
-
Re: Bring back 15 round fights
I vote no, can you imagine watching Rahman - Toney for another 3 rounds, talk about painful!!
Here's an idea though, an optional 13th round in title fights that result in a draw.............
only in title fights though

Been tried, and was not a success in USBA fights (look for DeWitt/Thorton, November 1987). Very dangerous for fighters to warm down waiting for a decision, only then have to fight another round.

The day before weight in was not to the benefit of opponents, it was for fighters who drained themselves to the very last drop, then had to rehydrate hours before the fight. Please neve rmention common sense, there is no commonality to sense. This makes sense to me, but not you.
If you only have hours to rehydrate, you are bound to be in worse condition.

How does dropping the rounds from 15 to 12 hurt fighter hydration. You don't think that a fighter is more hydrated in the 12th than he is the 15th? If it takes an anotomy lesson please give it. I'm a college educated adult, I can handle it. Please explain how this would work.
