Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
1. I've seen better fights in the local bar.
2. Ibragimov throws arm punches with his right hand. They wouldn't knock down the ref.
3. Ibragimov's corner was a hell of a lot better than the fighter.
(One particular gem: "If you keep on fighting this way, we won't be here when you come back." HILARIOUS!!).
4. Brock should stick to tap-dancing and showing highlights of his two devastating left hooks (which HBO kept showing over and over).
5. The heavyweight division bores me to tears. People are so desperate to love the heavyweights, they'll grasp at whatever crumbs come their way. Me... I gave up on the bums a LONG time ago.
6. Max Kellerman was pretty good. He even managed to call Lennox Lewis boring to his face and got away with it. (Kind of a back-handed compliment).
7. The ref should be fired. He must've warned Brock for shoving his open glove in Ibragimov's face about 47 times and never actually DID anything about it. He also ignored Ibragimov's incessant shoving down of Brock's head and Brock's rabbit punching. Great fight! (YAWN......)
8. There were a couple of hot babes in the first few rows of seats. It's the type of thing you tend to notice more when the fight sucks.
9. I'd never heard the chant of "U-S-A....U-S-A" at a boxing match before. Sounded kind of odd, given the overall global insignificance of the fight. Then again, it WAS in Las Vegas.
10. Puerto Rico continues to churn out amazing fighters. Carlos Quintana is the REAL DEAL, and will continue to be heard from. His fight against Joel Julio actually should've been the real main event.
(I know this last comment has nothing to do with the Brock fight...... but, who gives a damn?).

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
What the hell..... I'll add an 11th.
11. You couldn't PAY me enough to watch another Ibragimov fight. I'd rather watch reruns of John Ruiz's entire career.

Luckily I added that rule to Brock after I saw him fight Zuri Lawrence, thus sparing myself last night's pain.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Last night's fight was boring. Really, really boring. However, it wasn't as bad as the Chris Byrd / DaVarryl Williamson title fight from last October. Chris Byrd should have been drug out into the street and shot after that one. Actually he got what was coming to him in his next fight against Wlad.
Now even though last night's snoozer and the Byrd fight were boring at least they were free. I paid good money to see Rahman / Barrett. Then Rahman fight Toney to a draw...I would not be surprised is Maskaev knocks him through the ropes again.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
You forget it wasn't Byrd's fault for the Williamson fight because HE was the one coming forward trying to fight and Williamson was running away.
Anyway Timor was the one doing all the holding in the fight which made it boring

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Well,
Here is my thought.....
Timur definately has room to grow and has the time to do it....Does this loss hurt him, No...Not at all....He is not going anywhere...He'll get the money fights, but not going to get a belt anytime soon....Basically a check to check fighter....
Brock hurt himself in this fight, he really needed a good solid performance to get bigger and better fights...Does he have alot of time?? No, not really, his age is creeping and he needs about 5-8 solid fights before he gets a belt shot...He has all the potential, but not the time to use it in....
Good Luck,
Coach

Gee, I don't know...... according to the pre-fight stats, they are both the same age. So how do you figure?
:scratchchin:

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Be sure to read into my post a little bit more...When quoting me, be sure to use all of what I said....Thanks..
Timur is not going anywhere, So room for improvement at his level will come...
Brock's goals and level of fighting is a little greater IMHO, so he needs to improve or he'll get embarrassed and sent home with his tail tucked!!!
Thats how I figure....
Good Luck,
Coach

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Brock shoved his open glove into Timor's face and rabbit punched all too often.
Timor clinched and grabbed all too often.
The fight, as most heavyweight fights nowadays, was a boring farce.
Both fighters' stock went down heavily, in MY humble opinion.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Didn't I tell everyone the Ibragimovs are bums? I was just surprised Brock didn't knock him out. If Brock had a lil more balls he would have, but he beat him badly anyway.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Shoving an open glove in someone's face and rabbit punching....man sounds very familiar....hopefully Brock doesn't start rhyming and trash talking

Which translated into English means.............
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
In engrish means,
He is a second class level fighter, any improvement at his level is good for him, not far from what Brock is...
Brock is going to get the bigger fights because of his record and what he has done in his fights....
Timur will get fights that will pay his bills and put money in pocket and pad those well protected fighters with what people see as a solid win....
I guess what I need to say is that both fighters disappointed me, because I expected more and seen alot of bullshit in the ring...Bullshit that will hurt them both at getting good fights and Title shots...
Good Luck,
Coach

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
So they BOTH sucked.
That's what I THOUGHT you meant.

I don't think Brocks will and guts had anything to do with it, wheneverh e had Timor hurt Timor would grab and hold him otherewise Brock WOULD have gotten him out of there.

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Calvin Brock has an awkward stance. He looks like Sagat from Street Fighter. There was a moment when I thought he was going to scream "TIGER UPPERCUT!"
Seriously, he looks like he wants to start kickboxing folks.
Maybe that explains the palm strikes...
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Brock actually has a balanced stance but he lunges when he punches sometimes. He's WAY too open for right hands to beat Wladimer.
But Brock has a style where sometimes he'll look spectacular and sometimes he won't. But he just shut out an awkward style fighter that anyone would look bad against. And it wasn't close either.

Personally, I think Brock lacks the killer instinct needed to be the HW champ. He coulda and shoulda taken Ibragimov outta there, chubby sucker was just lookin for a way out in rounds 6-8.

Holy shit! On 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 I agree one thousand percent.
I especially agree with # 8 and I almost wrote on an earlier thread that I actually found myself looking at the venue for the first time ever. I was actually paying attention to the architecture at Caesars Palace, and looking into the crowd more than watching the fight.
I don't completely agree with 6.....though I noticed and relished the backhanded compliment (and believe me, when he suggested Lewis was boring I almost wet my pants laughing) I still didn't think much of Max. He still comes across as that "kid in daddy's suit" to me.
Fuck I don't know maybe I am being to harsh.
However, #5 and #11 I gotta disagree with.
There is talent in the division.....it was just no where to be found last night!
I will watch SULTAN Ibragimov fight anyday.......he's an exciting tough as nails fighter who looks like Opie from The Andy Griffith show, but bangs like a Gorilla on speed. He would have beat the shit out of Brock inside 5!

BOTH Ibragimovs are bums from what I've seen. Neither are any thing to write home about man.

Bullsh!t........which Sultan fight did you see then??

I think that's a brillant description. One day I'll be able to "cool click" for remarks like that. Well done.

Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Kellerman will always be viewed as that kid...but the thing is...daddy's suit or not...that kid's a hell of a commentator & he knows what the hell he's talking about.

I won't dispute his knowledge which is very extensive.....my post is in regard to likability and presence. To me, he seems too jumpy and hyper, or anxious to make a point.
It's as if when he has a point to make he's jumping out of his seat raising his hand and going ooo, ooh, ooh, I know. I used to watch him on Friday night fights a few years ago and I felt the same way then as I do now.
But yes, he does know his shit just as Teddy Atlas does and to me, neither are fun to watch.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
I taped it and watched it last night. When I woke up I decided to market the tape as a cure for insomnia. Is it me or are Fran Charles, Max Kellerman and Lennox Lewis the worst "commentators" ever?
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
I have 10 thoughts on this fight as well..
1. it sucked
2. it really sucked
3. it super sucked
4. it sucked A**
5. it sucked big a**
6. it sucked monster a**
7. it sucked balls
8. it sucked monster balls
9. Timor sucks
10. Calvin Brock sucks as well
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
There are very few times a heavyweight fight is only ok to watch, they are usually great or they put you to sleep...I wondered how no one won by KO, I was only watching and I couldn't make it out of the first round.
Brock-Peter wouldn't be such a bad idea, couldn't be worse than that!
Timor as boring as he may be, he can still cash some checks as a journeyman, taking on any young fighters that think they can cut it.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Teddy Atlas -- Mucho Testosterone
Love the guy.
We've been speaking of commentators and the things they say, right? Well one of the most dead on remarks I have ever heard was when Larry Merchant described Lennox Lewis as 6 foot 7 inches of mediocrity. Hilarious.
-
Re: Ten thoughts from the Brock-Ibragimov fight.
Teddy Atlas is a punk...he is right on when he talks abotu safety but it's kind of odd coming from a guy who pulled a gun on a 13 year old boxer.
Kellerman is ok, he knows his history...I have no idea who the other guy is, Lewis is ok, a little too quiet at times.
The true boxing comentators were gone before Howard Cosell came in a brought his ignorance of the sport with him.

Teddy Atlas is unstable......but Kellerman is just to "giddy" for my taste. Lewis is fucking invisible......I would take big George or RJJ over Lewis anyday. I'll be real honest though and say that I still like the Merchant -Lampley combo minus Harold Ledderman.
I know that lampley says stupid things sometimes....but to me these guys are the best that's out there right now.
