Team Floyd Claims "We're Not Ducking Margarito"
By Scoop Malinowski
"Most people are afraid to be honest." -- Jim Brown
"Tis strange but true; for truth is always strange, - Stranger than fiction." -- Byron
"Self-preservation is the first law of nature." -- S. Butler
Ladies and gentleman, Nobody ever lies in boxing.
STOP THE PRESSES. Word has been released from the Mayweather Headquarters in Las Vegas. They claim Floyd is not ducking Antonio Margarito.
Team Floyd says it is seriously considering Margarito as their next opponent. Oh. Really? Don't hold your breath. Because more than likely, it isn't going to happen.
The $8 million Chicken's chief advisor Leonard Ellerbe spoke out in defense against the widespread accusations that Floyd is running and running scared from WBO Welterweight champion Antonio Margarito.
"I've heard that ... and obviously it's the most ridiculous comment that one can make," said Ellberbe to Newark Star-Ledger boxing reporter Franklin McNeil. "First and foremost, Floyd's been in about 16 world championship fights. Margarito, from last I checked, has four losses. He's never fought an elite fighter. I repeat, he's never fought an elite fighter."
Ellerbe seems to have forgotten Floyd had no problems of procrastination and hesitation in signing to fight non-elite fighters DeMarcus Corley and Henry Bruseles for a WHOLE LOT LESS than $8 million. I REPEAT, for a whole lot less than $8 MILLION. Can you say hypocricy and fraud and deception? Oh, and by the way Leonard, no elite fighters even dare step up and fight Margarito - as Vargas, Mosley, and Baldomir have all said No to Margarito.
Ellebre continued: "Floyd is the best fighter in the world. He's fought top-level competition throughout his career. He's never ducked or dodged anyone. And last I checked, Floyd's undefeated. But Margarito's a good fighter. He's not a bum. His name's in the hat, no higher than anybody else's. The fact that his name is in the mix should prove we're not ducking him."
Oh, okay Leonard. Margarito is supposedly under consideration. So that should prove you and Floyd are not ducking him. Okay, Leonard. STOP THE PRESSES.
Everyone always tell the truth when they talk to the media, right Leonard?
Floyd was telling us the truth when he said Margarito didn't deserve the fight, right Leonard? Who is Margarito?, remember that crock of you know what, Leonard? Floyd was telling the truth when he said earlier this year that he loved Bob Arum and that Bob Arum was the greatest promoter of all-time, right Leonard? Floyd was telling the truth when he said Margarito was average and that he'd beat him easy if it made dollars and it made sense, right Leonard? Floyd was telling the truth when he said Margarito would get the shot if Bob Arum showed him the money, right Leonard?
Well, Bob's showing the money Leonard. He's showing you and Floyd a career-high jackpot for the second time now Leonard. And nobody else is outbidding or even bidding against Arum and Margarito, Leonard. Why not just take the easy money and get rid of this nuisance from Mexico, Leonard?
You can hoodwink the fools and the sychophants and tell everyone you are considering Margarito for the next fight. But you ain't foolin everyone Leonard. Some of us know that if Floyd gets his way and can somehow get out of this awful mess without losing his self-respect, he will never fight Margarito, this summer, next summer, or ever.
The powers know it Leonard. The powers-that-be in boxing know Floyd is scared of Margarito, they know Floyd gets beat up if it ever happens. And probably beaten up to the point where the rematch won't be necessary.
And I think you know it too, Leonard.
$8 million dollars is a lot of money to pass up Leonard, when Superman Floyd could make easy work of Margarito, right Leonard?
But you know it ain't easy work, Leonard. You know it's the most dangerous, most vicious fight of Floyd's life. You know how good, how confident and how relentlessly determined Margarito is to destroy Floyd, don't you Leonard.
But the truth always comes out Leonard. We discovered why Tyson never wanted to fight Lennox. We learned why Roy never wanted to mess with Tarver. We learned why Tito Ortiz did not want to go to war with Chuck Liddell.
And we all know why Floyd doesn't want to compete with Antonio Margarito. The truth always comes out Leonard.
Boxing needs he best to fight the best, open competition of the best fights possible. No cheating the public or the sport itself out of making the best fights possible can be tolerated.

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
Well, there is no word from the Mayweather camp yet on who could be a possible opponent...if Floyd really likes money then a Margarito fight is a must....there is no telling on Oscar at this stage...
If Floyd is to stay in the division then a true welterweight is called for soon....might as well find out if he can deal with it, Margarito is money after all....

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
We shall see.....time will tell...
the writer is obviously heavily biased but so far has been proven entirely correct....time will tell, if what is said is accurate....
I think floyd will not fight margarito within a year....
Excuses are mere excuses....
As I say, time will tell...
-
Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
Yeah...the PBF camp sounds to be full of shat....hey...I have Tyson, Wlad, Peter, and Valuev all in my hat.....so THAT should prove I'm not ducking any of them........aside from the fact that I will NEVER fight any of them.......time will tell.....I didn't know it was PBFC I thought it was KFC.......:)

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
I agree with some of you above. I have looked at this guy's writing in the past and almost everything i was able to find on scoop on Floyd has been negative. What's up with this guy?
It seems like this guy's head is clouded. He is probably on someone's payroll.

CC FOR NOTICING THAT TOO

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
This guy is hilarious. He probably was one of those people that thought Gatti would KO Mayweather in the 1st round. PBF should honestly hurry up and take the fight though. Unless he's talking about making that fight with Winky Wright, he should fight Tony.
-
Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
This writer sucks balls... It hurts reading the part where he says Leonard after everything, he's such a tool.

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito

Dam right,Click!! I do agree with you guys above though, this guys sounds fanatical!!and when he kept referring to Leonard,it was quite annoying but scary at the same time!! I wonder what would happen if he met Leonard!

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
My problem with the artcile...is not really the writing...it's the writer.
Scoop's got a serious hard on for poor Floyd.
No shat. Read up on him fellers & fellerettes.
Now...whether they fight or not is a different matter...but this writer is a hater, IWHO.
He's not taking in both accounts...just one side & that aint right.
-
Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
I went to a Mexican-type nighclub the other night and there was a fight.
People were throwing glasses and I just avoided being hit by one with a fruit-based cocktail in it......
You could say that I did duck a (strawberry) margarita
;D

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
Wow i love that Article.....
I dont think margarito can win..i think he has a descent chance, but i love the article.
The best in the world.......pffft.

Journalists are suppose to be objective. I guess if this guy is so anti-PBF then he brings new meaning to the word.

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
How good is Margarito? I've never seen him fight and I want know from some of you if he really is a threat to Floyd.
I'm by no means a Floyd fan, IMO he does seem to be cherry picking his opponents, but a fight with Tony does seem like a fight where he won't win either way. If he beats Tony comfortably without taking a punch, people will just start questioning Tony's credentials, kind of like what people did when JC shut out Lacy.

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
The thing about fighting Margarito is since he hasn't fought anybody except maybe Cintron if Floyd beats him then what does that do for Floyd's legacy? As a fight I think he should take it, but he's 29 and he needs to start fighting the hardest or most recognized opponents he can for example the Mosley Vargas winner, Hatton, Wright. IMO he has more boxing skill flat out than almost anybody thats ever boxed whether its determination, love for the sport, work ethic, speed, power at his original weight class(which he is fighting 17 pounds north of). I think he has a chance against anyone under 160, but he has prove that he can beat everyone and anyone under 160 for people even to start considering him as a maybe top 10 ATG ever let alone compare him to Robinson... if he beat Wright, Oscar Dela Hoya and Mosley/Vargas winner he would be in serious contention with Robinson in my mind for the most dominant fighter all time.

Oscar, Mosley and Vagras are all old men

I don't think this guy is a journalist at all. The way he writes is sooo one-sided that even if he were to write about someone i hate i would not allow myself to agree with this guy. You become incapacitated at your art when you only see situations in one way.

20 years down the road people won't care its sad, but true... and any of those old men could beat Margarito or Hatton or anyone else that Mayweather can fight right now.

Re: Team Floyd claim: We're not ducking Margarito
BTW I believe Vargas is younger than PBF. Mosley is just a 33, and same with Oscar so none of them are even closed being considered old men. Sure Mosley has lost some of his speed but IMO its always been because he jumped to welterweight to fight ODLH. Oscar was as quick, and powerful p4p as he's ever been in his last fight, and that has nothing to do with how he looked in comparison to Mayorga. Vargas has more wear than either, but he is still ginormous for a 154 pounder, and if he tried to get to the weight properly he would eat Margarito alive.

True, but that is sheer facticity. And as such it misses the point.
You gotta put your money somewhere. I wasn't claiming to know the future.

You know...Margarito is good...that's just it though...he's not great...not like some make him out to be.
I don't see him as a threat to Floyd, nor do I see him as anything remotely close to an equal.

The thing about Margarito is that he's beaten no one of real consequence that should sky rocket him to the top to face Floyd. Margarito's promoter & fans might have you believe that...but he's just not a marquee name & that is what Floyd is on the hunt for.
Hatton, Oscar, & Mosley are what Floyd should work on the most.
Let Margarito beat a few...even half ass names...then he can talk alla that shat.

Thats going to be a great fight Forrest and Quartey. I love Quartey from a technical stand point, he is very pleasing to the eye when he fights, he is one of those fighters that throw punches picture perfect ! One of the best jabs in boxing I might add. this should be one hell of a fight! good match-up here :coolclick: for making my mouth water ! can't wait for that fight
