Tribute to Gerald McClellan
Say what you want about his private life, but had what happened didn't he would be going down into history as one of the best boxers of the 90's/early 2000's

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
That was a really nice tribute video. The music fits in really well. It shows the best and worst of the boxing game. Shows you what these guys put themselves through in the pursuit of greatness. Looked like the guy was a real talent but boxing can be so cruel somteimes.
Check out the interview with McClellan years after the Benn fight. Quite moving im sure you will agree.

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
BOXING can be cruel? The G-Man was cruel!
Fuck that motherfucker, I wonder how he'd like a dog sicked on him now that he's hepless and not worth a shit
that being said he did deserve to win the Benn fight, the fight SHOULD have been stopped when Benn was hurt...then it should have been stopped when McClellan couldn't keep his mouthpeice in

All I know of this guy is what is in these clips on the thread - Judging from your response there is a more sinister side to this guys life.

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
gives you goose bumps....What a tragedy I think we forget that boxers are mere mortal men and it takes a tragedy to realize it..The kid was A juggernaut now he needs 24hr care and cant even see his children...

I just had a look on the net to see if I could find out what you meant. I read the story and its pretty sickening.

He used to fight dogs, and for his favorite fighting dogs he'd tie up other dogs and basically let his killer practice on them.
He was so into dog fighting he'd watch his dogs' fights before he fought to hype himself up.
I honestly 100% could not care less about what happens with Gerald McClellan, yeah it's nice that people still give him money to help HIS FAMILY get by but I hate the guy
And I don't care much for Roy Jones Jr. fighting cocks either....animals don't get anything from fighting each other, they do that to survive not for money or food or anything.

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
G-Man did make good hypothetical match ups though think about these fights
RJJ
Calzaghe
Hopkins
Tarver
Eubank
Toney
Johnson
Trinidad
and so on
He was a good brawler, not much else though....but my quasi respect for him inside the ring is COMPLETELY overshaddowed by his out of the ring lifestyle

And I bet your life is a shining beacon and an example for all to follow by... don't judge others unless you haven't done anything wrong in your life... especially when you grow up in a world that had dog fighting you wouldn't even consider ethics... Its like bull fighting in Mexico... I could never see a fight it would make me sick, but there is a huge thing because thats what they are used to its their upbringing to be excited about it.

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
I am North Carolina born and raised, yeah dog fighting is all around here and I have never liked it. It's the wrong thing to do.
Only mindless thugs and white trash fight dogs here.
I haven't seen nor do I want to see a bull fight. Now I'm not vegitarian or vegan or granola eating hippy but being mean to animals is bad.
From where I am sitting, G-Man got what was coming to him. It's sad but so is what he did to those dogs.
-
Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
Sorry he might have been a great boxer, but for what he did with animals i strongly dislike him.

yep....there was 2 times that fight should have definitely been stopped and probably 5 more times if you want to get technical about it...but I feel no sadness or remorse for him......Karma is a B*TCH!! You reap what you sow.......you reap what you sow.....

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
His actions outside the ring sicken me too.  Yet, I still feel for the guy.  In real life, in movies, in books, I always feel for the villian when he or she final meets their doom. Suddenly, everything they have done wrong is swept away and in my eyes they are just another mortal soul.
When I have the upperhand on someone I always relent.  I feel horribly guilty if I don't

All most boxers can do to survive and get by in life is fight... don't tell me you'e never paid to see a fight...

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
I disagree and thats fine.... I mean thats just harsh saying good he's suffering,he got what was coming!!..Some of you spoke about Karma, and well try to be a little less harsh cause Karma can backfire on you too..
I have done some pretty off things I shouldn't have well like we all have done..(I have never been cruel to animals) I wouldnt be happy to the fact that he is suffering cause he was dog fighting..I wouldnt want to end up like that and wouldnt want anyone in my family to either just because of that...Was he a rapist? a Felon? Accused of genocide or ethnic cleansing? Did he harm you or your family? Was he a terrorist? Did he Rob you or steal or murder anyone in your family?
I only heard about the dog fighting a but the rest of the list I dont know if he was a rapist or such?I hate animal cruelty to the fullest extent!!!! I would have Taken a swing at him myself if I saw him doing it but to be glad someone is uncapcitated deaf and blind and has 3 children that cant play and enjoy there father well the punishment dosent fit the crime IMO..
Then next time any of us do questionable things no matter what they are would you deserve to end up like him..Is that true justice...It sucks for him Cause Benn should have been TKO'D in the 1st and should not have been allowed to continue in the 1st place,so be it then its a reality of Boxing...

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan

I did not know this ! Damn I really liked the G-Man until I hear this. you know that old saying what come around go around, everybody gets their day in judgment. If I saw someone do that sh*t to an animal, Well I can honestly say I would be serving 15-20 mandatory ! That gets my piss hot ! I got a weakness for dogs ! I love dogs !

IN the southern stayes Dog fighting is cultural... It may not have the history of bull fighting but its still something everyone does in a certian areas thus its cultural because thats what it means... Many things are banned that people don't care about others doing like smoking pot. Bull fighting is still cruel... it doesn't rectify what they do by cooking the meat of the bull because they still torture it far more slowly than a dog would die. I am not condoning either, but I am using it as an example if you grow up around people who are doing cock fights and dog fights then that will become part of your life... Your growing up environment affects you as much as anything else.

Re: Tribute to Gerald McClellan
I live in spain i love the Spanish way of life however cannot quite get my head around the bull fighting. i have spoken to several of the younger generation who quite openly do not not agree with the 'sport' and is very heavily campaigned to stop it throughout my province. it is the older people who attend, the rings are half empy with only the die hards spurring the matador to kill, on average they kill 4/5 bulls a night and celabrate with fire works when the final one is killed. i dread when the season arrives and cannot wait for it to end. I donot agree that if your brought up around it you class it as normal Young Spanish people today are trying to ban this barbaric sport i for one cannot wait.

Good for you bro!
The best part of a bullfight is when the fuc#$ing bull gets in the stand and starts kicking country a$$. I always root for the bull to kill the horrible fuc#$ing matadors. Horrible sport.

Right... so Mike Tyson... other than boxing what the hell could Tyson have done? except ended up dead or in jail or dead in jail?
Enviroments make people... not species...
alot of boxers can only box... its not on the same level as cock fighting... I just find it slightly amusing to see people rattling on about Roy Jones Jr raising and fighting cocks who pay a lot of money to watch two men batter each other about the head for a living.

Evironments and genes...they play a role too
Do you think Cus should have sent Mike to a boarding school? I mean I think if anyone truly applies themselves to learning they'll at least make progress.
Mike wouldn't do anything that would make him the kind of money he made in boxing but he would go through the day without getting smacked in the face.
At the end of the day Adam Mike Tyson made a choice and his choice was to make money and he'd make the most in BOXING
