Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
I know Boxing is obviously not like Baseball so there is no play by play call like a Dramatic Homerun but can you recall watching a fight during a dramatic moment in the fight and how the commentator was calling the action.
One of the ones that sticks out to me was Gatti vs Ward in the 10th and Ward had Gatti in some bad trouble and Jim Lampley called it like this
"STOP IT FRANK(REFEREE) YOU CAN STOP IT AT ANYTIME ARTURO GATTI'S OUT ON HIS FEET!!!!!
AND FRANK CAPUCCINO GONNA LET THEM CONTINUE"
how bout you guys??

- IAN DARKE . BOWE - HOLYFIELD 3
OOOOOh wonderful shot by Lennox Lewis and hes laid out Hasim Rahman
- IAN DARKE - LEWIS - RAHMAN 2
Barrera does look abit tired but LOOK AT HIM COMEBACK . OH DEAR THIS IS A REAL BARN BURNER OF A FIGHT !
- IAN DARKE - BARRERA MORALES 1
Adam Smiths commentary on Williams - Potter was funny cuz his voice broke but I cant remember it word for word , I just remember him shouting " hes coming " ;D

"This is a fight that will shake up the boxing world" -- Larry Merchant Pac - MAB (September 2003) :o

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
I remember shuddering as Jim Watt stated in about round 10 of the Hatton Tsyu fight - "This is incredible - Hatton is going to win this"...think he got a bit over excited and if ever there was a kiss of death remark, this was it. Luckily though Jim was right!
A bit off subject but an amusing quote from Alan Minter - "Sure there have been injuries and deaths in boxing, but none of them are that serious"

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
Boxing commentaters fail to excite me... their lack of knowlodge on boxing (not boxers...) winds me up too much sometimes...

Did he really say that? ;D
LOL, I know he was meant to be a bit of a pompous prat, but I always thought he was on the ball as a commentator...

Being a bit flippant, the one I remember from the immortal Harry's commentary, was on Smith/Bruno...
"He (Bonecrusher) has hurt him with the right! Oh no it is Jumbo Cummings all over again, no... no.... NO!!!
Bruno came out with a classic in a fight at Elland Road between Henry Wharton and Fidel Castro Smith (Slugger O'Toole) midway though the 12th...
"If Wharton has won this, then there is something corrupt happening"
Your winner by decision... Henry Wharton!

I think Harry was the best, fiercly partisan in a way that they just arn't any more. Now professionalism seems to stop them from getting too involved in a fight, but with Harry he was a fan first, who just happend to be holding a microphone.

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
down goes frazier, to me, is the most exciting moment in comentating.

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
The best moment has to be after the decision was announced on Mosley Vs De La Hoya 2. George Formann went balistic on Larry Merchant after Larry said that is was not a big deal. " No Larry your wrong De La Hoya deserved this decision, your wrong you know about watching fights you no nothing about being in the ring.

CC back. They need to find someone else that can call Larry on his bullshit. Roy Jones, Emmanulle Steward, James Brown, etc have not done it. They need to bring Lennox Lewis in it, he can talk all night long.

"but this Klitschko guy, the fight is his...all he has to do is reach out and get it" George Foreman

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
I know it's not boxing, but the coverage of the Apollo moon landings was supposed to be pretty dramatic?

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
tyson v spinks reg gutteridge saying at the start "incredible rise of the crowd" sounded all the better when reg said it
-
Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
Reg Gutteridge was interviewing Sonny Liston in the 60's and Liston was being all truculent and intimidating. He went over to the doorway, put his shoulders in it and shrugged the whole frame out. He walked back to his seat and said 'I bet you can't do that, little man'.
Reg got out a penknife, cooly opened the blade, then rammed it an inch deep into his leg without flinching. Unblinking, he looked over at a wide eyed Sonny, and said 'I bet you can't do that'. Liston exited the interview, suitably abashed.
What he didn't know was that Reg had a wooden leg, suffered during the Normandy invasions.
I saw that on an old documentary about Reg, and the best thing was that they actually televised that interview at the time!!! Priceless

Always liked his "Baby in a playpen" remark as Berbick was trying to rise again and again from that Tyson left hook.

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
Sadly to say, "DOWN GOES JONES ON A HUGE LEFT HAND"
I was too intoxicated to remember the moment fully, but the way Lampley said that has stuck with me :(
-
Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
You dream about fights like this but very seldom do they live up to expectation
Emanuel Steward Gatti vs Ward 1
The whole 15th round of Holmes vs Norton 1978
Howard Cosell

Re: Most Dramatic Commentating Moment..
I think that it has to be ODLH vs Vargas when ODLH had him pinned in the corner going wild on him, Lampley was absolutely bananas. Damnit, I know he's corny but Lampley will always be #1 on my list. I still remember almost breaking down into tears from laughter when Lampley said "Rahman is solid as a rock, and Toney is fat tub of goo." Hahahahahahahahahahaha.
